dear GOD

We hear your honest confession and we thank God with you for His mercy, and we join you in bringing this struggle with anger before the Lord together in Jesus' name. To feel sorrow over anger that feels out of control is a work of the Holy Spirit convicting and drawing you toward holiness, and God sees your humble heart.

The Scriptures teach us that anger itself can be a momentary emotion, but we are commanded not to let it rule us or lead us into sin. Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil Ephesians 4:26-27. We are called to reflect the character of Christ, So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God James 1:19-20. And we are reminded that One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city Proverbs 16:32. True self control is not something we can manufacture on our own, it is fruit of the Spirit, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law Galatians 5:22-23. When we abide in Christ, He gives us the power to rule our spirit rather than being ruled by it.

We also want to gently encourage you about how you approached God. You said dear GOD, and we rejoice that you are turning to Him, but we want to remind you that we only have access to the Father through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by confessing Jesus as Lord and believing God raised Him from the dead that we are saved and that our prayers are heard. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your full trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness and to come to God in His name.

We pray together for you now. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this dear one who has humbled themselves to confess their struggle with anger. Lord, we thank You that If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. We ask You to forgive where anger has led to harsh words, thoughts, or actions, and cleanse this heart. Fill this dear one with Your Holy Spirit and produce in them love, patience, gentleness and self control. Teach them to be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger. Help them to pause and pray when anger rises, to give a gentle answer that turns away wrath, and to not give the enemy a foothold. Give them strength to walk in Your righteousness and to reflect Your character each day. Draw them ever closer to Jesus, that they may know His peace that passes understanding and His power to overcome. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to stay in the Word daily, to memorize verses about anger and self control, to pray immediately when you feel anger rising, and if possible to seek a mature Christian believer for accountability and prayer. God is patient with you and He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you.

We hear the honesty in your prayer, and we are thankful you brought it straight to God just as you are. Saying thank you and I'm sorry in the same breath, and admitting anger feels out of control, takes real humility. God is not put off by that honesty. He welcomes it.

Anger often rises so fast it feels like you had no choice in the moment. It can help to notice what tends to come right before it, the setting or cue that makes you more vulnerable. It might be exhaustion, hunger, stress, a certain conversation or time of day. When you can spot that early signal, you have a little more room to choose a different response.

For this week, you might try watching for one pattern you recognize and making a simple plan for it ahead of time. That could be quietly stepping away for a minute to pray when you feel that heat rising, or practicing a calm, brief response you want to use instead. Change usually comes through steady practice and honest reflection, not all at once. Walking with a trusted pastor or counselor can give you support and accountability as you practice, and we would encourage that alongside prayer.

Father, we thank You for this heart that wants to honor You even while struggling. We ask You to give wisdom to see the moments when anger begins to rise, and grace to pause and respond in a way that reflects You. Bring encouragement, patient help from others, and steady growth in Christlikeness day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest and humble cry has come before the Lord, and I thank God for the work of grace that makes you feel your need and confess it so plainly. To tremble and shake for fear, and with a penitent heart to desire forgiveness, is itself a sign that God is dealing graciously with your soul.

Hear what the Lord says to such a heart, "I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake." This is a divine forgiveness. Were all men to hiss at you and wish you gone, it would not be necessary that you should have their forgiveness to enter heaven, if you have His. It is a surprising forgiveness, so surprising that it is repeated, "I, even I," lest any of us should doubt it. And it is a complete forgiveness. When a man trusts Christ and is forgiven, his sin is so entirely gone that it is as though it had never been. The tally is destroyed, the record of your debt is nailed to the Cross.

There is forgiveness with Him. That is a matter of certainty. The text does not say there is forgiveness for this sin or for that, but simply, "There is forgiveness." Where God draws no limit, do not you draw any. However sinful your life may have been up until now, there is forgiveness with God even for you. If you have been the chief of sinners, you may have the chief of sinners forgiveness, and God can bestow it now. At this moment there is forgiveness. You need not wait until you get home or until you have bettered yourself. Possibly you feel your anger has mastered you again and again, but there is forgiveness with Him, and it is to be obtained through Jesus Christ His Son, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

Do as Martin Luther did in his dark distress when his brother said to him, Do you not say in the Creed, I believe in the forgiveness of sins? Now believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself. Believe that for Christ's sake you have in Him a full forgiveness, and an eternal forgiveness, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He keeps no back reckonings. He retains no reserves of anger.

And wherever the forgiveness of sin comes, there comes with it a turning from sin, a fresh view of sin, a different estimate of it. The heart that once sought its own pleasure now seeks God's pleasure. He not only forgave us at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one. Look to Christ who is your pattern. His disciples He gently rebuked, but He never spoke to them in anger. A life of forgiveness was crowned by His dying prayer for His persecutors, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. As you receive such great forgiveness for great sin, you will find strength to admire and to imitate Him, to be slow to anger and quick to forgive.

Let this whisper drive away despair. There is forgiveness. Let it enter your soul and drive those grim thoughts of despair away into the sea of forgetfulness. Come to the Lord Jesus now, confess your anger and your inability to control it, trust in His blood which has made forgiveness easy, and ask Him not only to pardon you but to heal you and to make you gentle as He is gentle.

I pray for you that you may know this day the completeness of His pardon, and that the same grace which forgives you may quiet your spirit, subdue your temper, and make you to walk in newness of life for His glory.

Your honesty before God is precious, and He hears a humble and contrite heart that says, I am sorry. To see your anger clearly and to grieve it is already the beginning of His grace working in you.

Anger is like a sea tossed by a storm, while self control is like a harbor free from disturbance. When a person insults or provokes, he does it hoping to sting, but when he finds no anger in return the blast loses its power and is put to rest. The one who is angry condemns himself, but the one who practices self control, with God's grace, is sufficient for his own safety and honor. It is possible to address what is wrong without anger, and it is wiser and more peaceful to do so.

Scripture calls us into the patience of Christ, to endure as He endured and not to be troubled. This patience is not shown in a moment, but over time, and it grows as we are comforted by the Scriptures. Patience produces hope and hope strengthens patience. Part of this is learning gentleness in speech, for loud speaking is the fuel of passion. When we avoid anger and loud words, our words become more credible and our hearts remain more calm. There is a kind of honorable defeat that is true victory, when you refuse to repay anger with anger, you quench the flame in yourself and you help quench it in another.

Do not be discouraged by your weakness. God does not deal with you in wrath when you come to Him in confession, but with provident care and love. If you have spoken harshly, seek to correct it with words that build up and are good for edification, and show love after correction. Pursue virtue not as a burden or only for a reward, but because you love what is good, and trust that God in His mercy helps our weakness.

Through Jesus Christ alone there is forgiveness and new strength. Confess your anger to Him, ask for His forgiveness, and ask Him to teach you self control day by day. Bring your struggle into the light with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can pray with you and hold you accountable. Spend time daily in Scripture and prayer, especially when you feel anger rising, pause, pray briefly, speak quietly, and choose the harbor of peace rather than the storm.

I will pray for you, that God will grant you His grace to grow in patience, to keep your heart calm, to speak with gentleness, and to know deeply that you are forgiven and loved in Christ, and that He will make you more and more able to live in the peace He gives.

Your honesty before God is precious and He hears that simple prayer. To come and say thank you and I am sorry and I cannot control my anger is exactly where He wants you to be.

God does not only want to help you manage your anger, He wants to change your nature. His desire is to bring you from living governed by yourself, independent and self sufficient, to living as one who trusts and relies on Him and is governed by His Spirit. That change of nature is the real blessing He wants to give. Faith is not passive. You have a part to play, and God has given you the gift of choice, the ability to will and to determine your future by the choices you make before Him.

Scripture is very open about anger and does not hide its consequences. When Jacob gathered his sons he rebuked Simeon and Levi saying cursed be your anger because in their anger they killed the men of a city. Because of that uncontrolled temper they lost the birthright and the blessing. Their deeds were remembered years later. Anger left unchecked always brings loss, and grievous words stir up more anger. On the other hand a soft answer turns away wrath, and the one who is slow to anger quiets strife. God wants to give you that kind of control, a steady and even disposition where you are not quickly provoked.

You do not need to live under constant guilt and condemnation for your outbursts. There is forgiveness and cleansing when you repent and ask the Lord for it. The only thing that keeps you from that forgiveness is not coming to ask for it. Many people live plagued in their conscience almost to the point of deep distress because they have not come to receive what Jesus has already paid for. Because of your trust in Jesus Christ who paid the price for your forgiveness, no one can condemn you, not Satan, not others, not even your own heart, when God has pardoned you. Sin may have abounded, but grace much more abounds, and that does not mean we keep living in sin, for how can we who died to sin continue in it.

Forgiveness and victory over anger is a matter of the heart and spirit, not just counting how many times you have failed. God commands a forgiving and gentle spirit and He will give you the capacity for it if you are willing. You must be willing and you must ask. Pray plainly, Father give me a spirit of forgiveness, take away this bitterness and this unforgiving spirit, give me self control. You cannot excuse anger as just my temper or just the way I am. When you became a Christian the old nature died and you became a new creation in Christ. That old temper died with the old life.

I have known those who had a violent temper, easily set off, especially when they hurt themselves or felt out of control, who would flare up without even thinking and then feel shame, especially after being a witness for Jesus. The turning point came when they stopped excusing it and cried out to God for two things, first for forgiveness for destroying their witness, and then for help, confessing I have no control over this, I react before I think. And God began to give victory in that very area where they had no control and knew it.

God can do the same for you. He can soothe anger and bring reconciliation where there was tension and bitterness, so that instead of recrimination there is embrace and forgiveness and even tears of love. Come to Jesus now and receive His cleansing and His love and be made His child anew each day. Choose to be slow to anger, choose the soft answer, and rely on His Spirit moment by moment. He is faithful to help you as you are willing to be helped.
