Dealing With Suicidal Thoughts

Sermon Notes: 4/28/13

So ill stand in trust ill stand in faith I will not be shaken.

The increasing number of Suicide:
• most people who commit suicide weren't interested in it at some time.
•suicide takes the life of nearly 30,000 every year
• its estimated once a minute someone attempts, and many succeed in taking their own lives.
• more people die from suicide then people who die in car crashes.
•For 15-24 years old suicide is the third cause of death.
•from 25-65 is the average age of men that commit suicide.
• there are four males that commit suicide to ever women.
•in the military 2011-2012 suicide increase by 11 percent.
• more then 349 took their own life in the four branches of the military or one every 25 hours, more than the 295 who died fighting.

•Something desperately wrong in a nation so educated and prosperous where so many people are taking their life's.
•Depression is the underline cause of it.
• how can we live in a nation so progressive but that we can't get along with ourselves?
Read:
• Matthew 27: 1-5
1. Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed. 2 So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.
3.When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.
4 “I have sinned,†he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.â€
“What is that to us?†they replied. “That’s your responsibility.â€
5.So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

•have you ever thought of killing yourself? Has it ever crossed your mind? Do you know someone to whom it has happened to?
• There is a state of confusion, frustration, anxiety, and despair that is happening.
• there are many who are strong but there is a wide amount of people that are not.
• if your one of those strong ones:
be sensitive to those around you who are in the process, who are thinking of the moment or day to where they will commit suicide.
Causes of suicide:
• Commitment to a cause or group:
- A love pact for example.
• Life has become meaningless:
- for example: "i work eight hours a week, income home turned on the tv and all I hear is the bad things happening around in the world. I put on a comedy show and may laugh in the moment but then decide I don't want to listen to these lewd jokes Nd turned of the Tv."
- The may say: "I don't have any sense of purpose in life it's a never ending circle that keeps going from bad to worst."
• The Circumstances may seem hopeless:
- maybe economically
- maybe your undergoing a case in court or something of the sort.
• Unbearable Pain:
- some people have gone been enduring through a pain for years.
-carrying that weight on their shoulders.
- they say I don't want to die but I can't stand living.
- people in emotional pain feel unwanted, feel rejected, cast out isolated. And that emotional pain maybe so bad that they cant handle it anymore an say I'm going to take my life.
• We don't understand the degree of pain some people go through and have to be sensitive about that
• Retaliation or vengeance towards another person:
- they may say you did this to me now you see what I'm going to do to you, I will prove to you who I am.

£ Who is affected when a person commits suicide? :
• The person who commits suicide.
• Family, friends
- Is suicide in my genes? if one of my family members committed suicide, I'm I deemed to die that way? No, it is not in your genes.
• When someone takes their life you can't say I'm sorry and are left thinking of what you could of done to prevent that.
• When a person commits suicide it's expensive, economically and emotionally for those left behind.
• Sometimes it comes by surprise and sometimes there is a little hint that a person is thinking of committing suicide.
• You can't ever bring them back, you would never know why.
• You ask a thousand times how did I miss it, what could I of done.
• The embarrassment that those left might undergo:
For example Kid goes to school and their mate said I heard your daddy shot himself. that kid will never get over that.
• The community is also affected.

• The tragedy of tragedy is that you can never get them back, to find out why.
• Guilt, frustration, anxiety is often left.

-Is suicide a sin?
• The sixth commandment: " Thou shall not commit murder" includes oneself.
•55 million baby's have been murder. You can call it abortion or anything you want to.
• some where along the way we have to wake up, and realize what it's being done.
• God will not ignore this, nor leave it unnoticed. Otherwise he wouldn't be the god of just, purity and love that he is.
• God loves those babies as well as us.
• The reason some people are doing it its primarily for money. (Abortion)
• Gods judgment will come upon any nation that does that or permits that.
• Those Doctors doing this will have to respond to god.

• We are seeing things in our nation that we have never seen before.
• our moral system has fallen apart in pure corruption.
• and everyone wants to stay quiet, and go along with the things happening.
• The bible in nowhere condones suicide or murder

• God is a god of faith.
• God does not change in any of his quality.
• to change his mind, would mean he missed it somewhere and god does not miss anything he knows what is going on.

• You were given the gift of life.
• The privilege to spend eternity in heaven.
• When you commit suicide you loose the reward God would of had for you.
• it's and expression of pure ingratitude for god.
• an expression of self hatred.
• if you do something that violates the word of god there is a penalty to it.
• When god created you, he had a plan with you.
• if you take the gift of life God has given you and throw it away, your rejecting his gift basically saying is not good enough.
•When you do this as a way to escape your problems, you are telling God your handling things your ways.
• God allows pain and difficult time to cleanse us, to change our mind, and glorify himself in us.
• you can handle anything god sends your way, because he is there to surround you to be with you no matter what.
• God allows difficulties to come because he is in process of teaching us something.
• You have to endure things until god tells you to.
•He knows what he is doing, Trust him and have Faith in him.
• God doesn't want u to run he wants us to stand.
• Stand In the truth of the word of God, which is the bible.

• if you say well I'm not a believer, so why I'm i going through this? God wants to be so miserable that you would come to him.
• God would so anything to save his kids, and if dragging you to him is what it takes, then he will do just that.
• Romans 8:28:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.

• God only you can help me through this, and he always will and always has.
• when you take your life and deprive the life of those around you it is a selfish act.
• it hurts your testimony and the testimony if Christ.
- if your a Christian and you do that what a non believer would say is if your god didn't help you through that I'm not wasting my time cause he sure is not going to help me.

• Give God time to work in your life.
•is Suicide an unpardonable sin?
No, but there is a penalty to it.
• Jesus died for ALL sins.
•there are many disappointment in our life but we have to trust God and that he will take us through it.

Suicide:
• it is not the will of god.
• it is a sin.
• is it a unpardonable sin? No
• a person who takes their own life looses their reward.
• We have to think in terms of eternity.
• the bible said we will died and that after this world is judgement.

• Matthew 12
• the only unpardonable sin is blaspheme against the Holy Spirit.
- they will not be forgiven in this age or the age to come.
• We are save because the Holy Spirit enable us to become a believer.
• When you say i don't believe Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit i will have nothing to do with that, and they continually reject the word of god, after a while in their mind they become committed unbelievers.
• When you closed Christ and the Holy Spirit out you can't be safe, because the Holy Spirit is what saves us and motivate us to change our way of life and come to god, it is what purifies us.
• That is the only unpardonable sin. (Blaspheme against the Holy Spirit)

• Suicide is pardonable but horribly destructive.
• God does not condone suicide.
• Their are people who love god but have come to some area in their life where they think they can't handle it and take their life.
• Suicide is forgivable but the consequences are disastrous.
• you can't name something god won't help you through if you trust him.
• god is alway there to help you no matter what your going through.
• you have to trust god.
• just because a person says I'm Christian does not mean they re indulge in the word of god.
• read the word of god and seek comfort in him.
• If someone mentions suicide to you once or joking around take it seriously!
• remind them god can help them through it. His willing you to walk with you step by step.
First you must invite him as your friend and savior into your life.
• Trust Jesus Christ as your savior. When you accept him he forgives you of all your sins.
• You have God to help you through whatever your facing.
• Don't destroy what god has created.
• say: No I'm not taking my life I'm going to find out what this awesome god has in store for me.
• My god will never leave me or forsake me.
• Don't be ashamed to ask for help.
•Ask for help and god will help you.
• Do you know someone who has talked about it just mention it or jokes about it? Encourage them to come to god and seek help.

'Insightful' Until you have the 'Unbearable Pain' experience referenced above. Because when this happens you can intellectually understand and accept the counsel so wonderfully set out and offered here. But somehow you just can't access it enough that it may find a resting place in your spirit. You're just so clouded that even logic loses it's sense of logic. Because of my own personal experiences, I am of the (humble) opinion that we should seek God for ways in which we can really reach suicidal people without adding a sense of guilt and shame to the already 'Unbearable Pain'. I love you guys, thank you for the insightful article, and I really especially thank God for a community that not only prays and trusts God for each other, but really His family. God bless ALL here, in Jesus' name.

This may even be longer than the original article but please forgive me. I really want to share it. I want to thank God for an article that I believe will help so many people as a warning or preventitive tool. But I would also like to offer another perspective from the viewpoint of the sufferer of these thoughts. Much of my response is relative to my own personal battle in the fight of good faith. So many of the consequences listed above are both true, and insightful. Until you have the 'Unbearable Pain Experience', also referenced above. When this type of pain occurs the sufferer may intellectually understand and accept most counsel (especially any Godly counsel) and encouragement so wonderfully offered and well meaning. But somehow the 'clouded' person simply cannot access the content of the counsel enough for it to find a resting place in their spirit and understanding. You're just so clouded that even logic loses it's sense of logic. Based on my own story of suffering in this way, I am of the (humble) opinion that we should seek God for ways in which we can really reach suicidal and other mentally challenged people (especially believers) without adding a sense of guilt and shame to the already 'Unbearable Pain'. (I KNOW and understand that this is NOT the motive of the article). For any person, especially a believer, already suffering under an enormous amount of guilt, shame and condemnation (at maybe having failed God irrevocably, or so the enemy would have them believe) even a correct diagnosis of how damaging the act of taking their own lives would be on their own loved ones, could have a devastating effect on their actions. A person in such a mess may actually want to 'hurry out of' the guilt and shame. I was once entering a home in a block of flats where we going to have a cell meeting. Before going in I noticed a young man whom I knew before I got saved. I had seen him at a few church outreach meetings before which told me that he was somehow seeking God. But I also knew that he had lost a great job recently and was on drugs, so I gave him the full get your act together, this is the whole 'what God requires' rundown. And I 'encouraged' him that he better join us soon. That young man hung himself about 5 or 6 hours later. I really believe that a different approach from myself could have made a genuine difference. I later suffered from a lot of depression related stuff myself, ironically none of it having to do with this incident. But I thank God that I'm in a better place now than I used to be. I am still not completely delivered and continue to ask this praying community to keep both me and my house (my family) in your prayers. I love you guys, thank you for the insightful article, and I especially thank God for a praying community that not only prays, but also really trusts God for each other, we belong to Him. And WE ARE FAMILY. God bless ALL, in Jesus' name. Amen.
