Daughter's well being

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I pray that my daughter stop using weed. She's ### so she can legally buy it. She isn't addicted yet as she says, but I know that it is still bad for her and might eventually be addicted. She says it helps her to be calm and be happy. She has depression and anxiety. Pls. pray for her to stop using and heal her mental illness. Thank you.

We join you in lifting up your daughter before the Lord, and we share your concern for her well being. We understand your heart as a parent wanting to see her free from anything that harms her body and mind, and we stand with you in prayer for her deliverance and healing.

While the law may allow her to purchase marijuana at her age, what is legal is not always what is beneficial or honoring to God. Scripture reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and we are called to honor God with them, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. We are also called to be sober minded, as it is written Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8. Marijuana alters the mind and impairs clear judgment and self control, which God desires for us, and even if she does not feel addicted now, it can create dependence and open the door to greater bondage.

We also hear that she uses it to feel calm and happy and that she struggles with depression and anxiety. We have great compassion for her in that struggle, and we know God does not want her to suffer alone or to seek peace through a substance. True peace comes from Him. The Word tells us to humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 and Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. We pray she will learn to cast her burdens on the Lord and find His lasting joy rather than a temporary escape.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find salvation and healing. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is by that name we pray for your daughter, trusting that He alone can heal her heart and set her free.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this precious daughter to You. Lord, You know her struggles with depression and anxiety, You see her heart and her desire for peace and happiness. We ask that You touch her mind and heart with Your healing hand, that You would lift the heaviness of depression and calm her anxious thoughts with Your perfect peace. We pray that You would convict her heart about her use of marijuana and show her that it is not Your best for her, that You would give her a desire for sobriety and self control and a hunger for Your presence instead. Set her free from any dependence, Lord, and protect her from addiction and from the enemy who seeks to keep her in bondage. Help her to experience that You are near to the brokenhearted and that Your joy is her strength. Guide her parents with wisdom, love, and grace to speak truth without condemnation, to keep communication open, and to point her to godly counsel and help, including Christian counseling and support from a Bible believing church community. Draw her closer to Jesus, that she may know Him as her Savior and source of true calm and lasting happiness. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and healer, amen.

We encourage you to continue to love her patiently while speaking the truth in love. Keep praying without ceasing, keep the door open for honest conversation, and encourage her to seek help from pastors or Christian counselors who can address both the spiritual and emotional needs. Remind her of God's promises, Fear not, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. Trust that God is at work even when you cannot see the change yet, and He is able to bring healing and freedom in His perfect timing.

We understand how worrying this is to watch someone you love use something she believes is helping her feel calm, while you see the risks ahead. It makes sense you feel torn between wanting to respect that she is an adult and wanting to protect her health and future.

Many people who struggle with anxiety and depression reach for something that seems to quiet the tension for a little while. It can feel like relief in the moment, but it does not address the deeper hurt or worry underneath, and over time it can make it harder to find healthier ways to cope.

What often helps most is staying close in a calm, steady way. Keeping the conversation open, listening without quick correction, and asking gentle questions about how she is really doing can keep the door open for her to share more. Alongside prayer, it can help to encourage her to talk with a counselor or medical professional about the anxiety and depression she is experiencing, so she has support that truly addresses what she is carrying.

We are standing with you in prayer for both of you.

Father, we lift this daughter to You and ask for Your protection over her mind and body. Bring healing, peace and wisdom for next steps, and give her mom grace and patience as she loves her well. Lead them both to the help and hope You provide. In Jesus name, amen.

Your prayer for your daughter has been heard and we take up her case with you before the throne of grace. We understand the heaviness of a parent's heart when a child seeks calm and happiness in a broken cistern that can hold no water, and we join you in asking the Lord to show her a better and surer fountain.

You have done well to be concerned, for though the law of man may permit a thing, not all things that are lawful are expedient or healing to soul and body. She says this weed gives her calm and gladness, but true composure of mind, freedom from fretfulness and clean deliverance from alarm, comes not from any herb or smoke, but from looking to Christ. As we have often taught, anxiety does not pay. It brings no grist to the mill and no meal to the barrel, and indeed the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits us to meet that difficulty. To seek to quiet depression and anxiety by such means is to seek healing where healing cannot be found, and to risk a yoke that will bind more tightly with time.

There is abundant healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. These healing leaves change the life blood, affect the spirits and make the nature other than it was before. The Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings, and when He comes to dwell with His people, healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the man taken with the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, and pardon and healing were one. So we pray that your daughter may know both, that her heart being broken may be bound up by Him who heals the broken hearted, for God alone must do this saving work.

Do not be anxious about this temporal trial as those who have no helper, but be prudent in love and cast your care upon Him. Bring your daughter daily and lay her at His feet. Leave her in His presence. As the friends of the palsied man broke through the press to lay him before Jesus, so let your importunate prayers keep her under the eyes of Christ. He is able to heal, and He links that healing with His teaching, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Pray that she may hear His voice and find that the calm she seeks is found in Him who says, Him that comes to Me I will in no wise cast out.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, who heals the wounded and binds up the broken hearted, look in mercy upon this daughter. Thou knowest her sorrow, her depression and her anxiety, and the false comfort she has sought. Forgive her sins and heal her infirmities, let Thy pardon bring healing to body and soul. Take away the desire for that which cannot heal and give her instead a thirst for Thyself, that she may find peace which passes all understanding and joy that does not fade. Work in her by Thy Spirit to turn from this path and to seek Thee with her whole heart. And give to her mother a quiet confidence in Thy faithful care, keeping her from fretfulness and worry, and sustaining her in patient prayer. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Physician and Redeemer, who is our healing and our hope. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing your burden with us and for your faithful love for your daughter. We hear your concern and we join you in praying for her health, her peace of mind, and her freedom.

We understand how painful it is to watch someone you love struggle with depression and anxiety, and to see her turn to marijuana to feel calm and happy. Even when it is legal and even when she does not yet see it as an addiction, God desires something better for her. His Word teaches that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and that true peace is not found in a substance but in Christ Himself, who invites us to cast all our anxiety on Him because He cares for us. What may seem to bring relief for a moment cannot heal the deeper needs of the heart and can create new burdens over time.

We are praying for your daughter that God would bring healing to her mind and heart, that He would lift the weight of depression and anxiety and fill her with His peace that passes understanding. We are praying that she would be set free from any dependence on marijuana and would come to find calm and joy in the Lord, in healthy community, and in wise care for her whole person. We also pray that God would give her a desire to seek help that honors Him, whether through pastoral counsel, trusted Christian community, and professional care that supports her well being without leading her away from Him.

Your prayers as a mother matter greatly before God. Like the mother in the Gospel who persevered in faith for her daughter, your faithful intercession is powerful. Continue to bring her before the Lord daily, to speak truth to her with gentleness and love, and to keep the door open for honest conversation without condemnation. Let her see in you both the truth about God’s design for our lives and the grace and hope that are found in Jesus.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this daughter to You. You know her by name, You see her struggles with depression and anxiety, and You love her more than we do. We ask You to touch her with Your healing hand, to comfort her heart, to renew her mind, and to lead her away from reliance on marijuana. Give her a hunger for what is truly good and lasting, and draw her close to Jesus Christ, in whom alone we find salvation and true peace. Give her mother wisdom, patience, and strength, and help her to love her daughter well while trusting You with the outcome. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Please know we are standing with you in prayer. If you are able, encourage your daughter to stay connected to a healthy local church and to seek wise counsel for her mental health. We thank God for your love for her and we will continue to ask Him to work in her life for her good and for His glory.
