Beloved of All
You have prayed a prayer that comes from a parent’s deep love and concern, and God hears every word. That heartache over your daughter’s anger, the wall of attitude, the bitterness that seems to harden her spirit, it is not hidden from the Lord. He cares more than you can know.
Anger itself is not always wrong. The Scriptures show a righteous anger that burns against sin, against cruelty, against the traditions that bind people in darkness. But there is another kind of anger, one that festers and turns into bitterness. When anger settles in and becomes a root, it defiles not only the person who holds it but everyone within reach. That is what you are glimpsing, and that is why you are urgently praying for her heart to be changed. The Word warns us plainly: let all bitterness and wrath and clamor and evil speaking be put away. Let not the sun go down on your wrath. A root of bitterness springs up and troubles many. That kind of anger, left unchecked, becomes its own prison.
The healing you are asking for begins with real peace, and real peace is found only in Jesus Christ. He Himself is our peace. He made peace for us through His blood, so that a person who was once at war with God can be reconciled and know the end of that inner conflict. But there is more. After peace with God comes the peace of God, a deep, steady quietness of soul that passes all understanding. That peace guards the heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and it comes when the mind is stayed on Him, trusting Him, turning thoughts from the chaos and the hurt toward His faithfulness. The moment someone fixes their gaze on Christ instead of on the wrongs done to them, the peace begins to rule.
This is not about forcing herself to manufacture humility, kindness, patience, and joy. Those are fruit that the Holy Spirit produces as a person abides in Jesus. God can transform a bitter, mean, ugly spirit into something gentle, loving, and glad. I have seen Him do it. He once melted the fury of a wronged brother so that instead of revenge there was embrace and tears, not of anger, but of reconciliation. That is the kind of change only God can work.
So do not stop praying that she would let the attitude drop, but pray also that she would see the source of lasting healing. The Lord calls out, “Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near, and I will heal him.” That promise is for her. Whatever is broken in her mind or body, the Great Physician wants to make whole. Her struggle with people who dislike her or talk about her can either become fuel for more bitterness or a place where she learns to trust God’s protection. Covered by the blood of Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit, she can stand without having to fight back with anger. Vengeance and defense are in His hands; peace is her portion.
Yes, there are people with whom peace seems impossible, and in those cases the command is to do all that lies within her to live peaceably, never letting the cause of division rest on her own bitterness. As she pursues peace and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord, that root of bitterness will have no ground. Tears of bitterness are a dangerous thing, they are not the same as tears of repentance. True healing begins when the heart turns from nursing its wounds toward the One who binds them up.
Keep lifting her before the throne of grace. Ask God to give her not just peace with others, but first and foremost peace with Him. Then the peace of God will guard her heart and her mind, and out of that secure place the kindness, humility, and joy you long for will grow. There will never be perfect peace on this earth until Jesus returns, but in a heart surrendered to Him, that peace flows like a river now.
