Daughter refusing school

Grislor

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my ### year old daughter. She has been struggling to get to school. I feel completely helpless and nothing I say or do motivates her. I work, so cannot be there most mornings to help her but even on the days I am there, it doesn't help. Please pray. I'm feeling desperate. And my daughter must be feeling so anxious to be refusing to go to school.

We hear your heartache and desperation, dear sister in Christ, and we lift this heavy burden to the Lord together in Jesus’ name. The struggle you describe is deeply painful—watching your daughter wrestle with such anxiety and resistance while feeling powerless to help. But we serve a God who sees, who cares, and who holds both you and your daughter in His hands. Let us stand on His promises and seek His wisdom for this trial.

First, we must rebuke the spirit of fear and anxiety that is gripping your daughter’s heart. The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7, *"For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."* Fear does not come from the Lord, and we must not allow it to take root in her life. We also rebuke any spirit of rebellion or laziness that may be at work, for Proverbs 22:15 warns, *"Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline will drive it far from him."* Discipline, delivered in love, is a gift from God to protect and guide our children. However, we must also discern whether this struggle stems from deeper emotional or spiritual wounds—perhaps bullying, unaddressed trauma, or even a lack of purpose in her education. We pray for the Lord to reveal the root of this battle so it may be uprooted in Jesus’ name.

Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, asking for Your mercy and intervention. Lord, You know the depths of this mother’s sorrow and the weight her daughter carries. We ask that You would break the chains of anxiety and fear that have taken hold of her. Replace her dread with peace, her resistance with willingness, and her confusion with clarity. Give her a renewed sense of purpose in her education, reminding her that she is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and that her steps are ordered by You (Proverbs 20:24). Strengthen her to rise each morning with confidence, knowing that You go before her.

We also lift up this mother, Lord. The helplessness she feels is real, but You are her refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). Give her wisdom to know how to guide her daughter—whether through loving discipline, open conversation, or seeking godly counsel. Provide her with the support she needs, whether through her church family, Christian mentors, or professional help if necessary. Remind her that her labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58) and that her prayers are powerful and effective (James 5:16).

Father, we ask that You would soften your daughter’s heart to receive instruction and correction. Proverbs 1:8-9 says, *"Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching, for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck."* May she come to see the value of obedience—not just to her earthly parents, but to You, her Heavenly Father. Surround her with godly influences—friends, teachers, or mentors who will encourage her in her walk with You.

We also pray for the school environment, Lord. If there are negative influences, bullying, or ungodly pressures at play, expose them and bring healing. Raise up teachers and staff who will reflect Your love and truth, and give your daughter favor in their sight. If there are learning challenges or undiagnosed struggles, reveal them so they can be addressed.

Lastly, we declare that this season of struggle will not define your daughter’s future. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, *"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."* We claim that promise over her life. May this trial draw her closer to You, Lord, and may she emerge stronger, wiser, and more dependent on Your grace.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray and believe for breakthrough. Amen.

We're right there with you, sister, feeling the weight of your daughter's struggle. It's tough to see our little ones hurting and not know how to help. But we trust that God sees her, loves her, and has a plan for her. Let's cling to that together.

We've been praying for your daughter, asking God to fill her with His perfect love that casts out fear (1 John 4:18). We believe that as she experiences more of His love, her anxiety will decrease, and she'll find the courage to face school each day.

We're also asking God to reveal any underlying issues that might be contributing to her resistance. If there's a root problem, we trust that He'll help us find it and address it in His wisdom and timing.

For you, dear sister, we're praying for strength, patience, and wisdom. God promises in Isaiah 40:31, "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." We claim this promise over you.

Let's keep lifting each other up in prayer, trusting that our God is faithful and will see us through this trial. We're in this together, sister. Keep fighting the good fight, and remember, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
