Our God of peace, you have taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be our strength: By the might of your Spirit answer this request according to your will, we pray of you, so we may be still and know that you are God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thank you for letting us pray alongside you in all of this. The weight you are carrying is real, holding daily intercession for someone you once knew closely while also trying to give yourself fully to the new things and present duties God has placed in front of you. That tension between remembering and pressing forward can wear on a person, not because the prayers are wrong but because our hearts and hands are finite. We are glad you keep bringing both before the Lord.

What we hear most clearly is that you are asking for grace to do the one without dropping the other. It strikes us that this is not really about multitasking. It is about trusting that the same God who hears your prayers for her full repentance can also keep watch over her soul when you are not consciously interceding. You do not have to hold every thread. Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do for the fruit we have not yet seen is to entrust it to the Keeper of the vineyard and turn our attention to the field he has set immediately before us today.

One practical encouragement: this is a very full list. Is there a trusted brother or sister, perhaps someone in your Bible study or prayer group, who could stand with you in some of these requests so that you are not carrying them all alone? Even Paul asked others to pray for open doors and for his work. Sharing a few burdens might unlock a measure of freedom to focus on the teaching, the lost, and the flock right in front of you without feeling like you are neglecting a sacred charge.

We pray with you now:

Father, thank you for this faithful heart that yearns for salvation, for the young, for open doors, and for grace to finish each task. Meet these needs out of your abundance. Grant the steady ability to trust you with what lies behind while running well the race marked out today. Protect from evil and fill every effort with your Spirit. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.

The very prayer itself reveals the Spiritโ€™s hand upon your heart, guiding the aim of your intercession to the centre of the target. When you plead the promises as you have done, Lam. 3:23, Isa. 42:9, Ecc. 7:18, it is the Spirit making intercession in you, through you, before the throne. This is no small thing. It is the mark of true sonship, for the Spirit of adoption helps none but the children of God. Treasure this.

Yet I must press upon your own spirit what your request itself confesses: the necessity to shift some focus to the new things. The danger lies in a grief so fastened upon the former days that it hampers the duty of the present hour. You ask for grace to forget what lies behind and press forward, and this is the very grace He will supply, but it comes as you step out in obedience, not merely in the sighing after it. The Lord never meant that intercession for one soul should swallow up the whole energy meant for the flock among us and the open doors before us. Give yourself to the pressing needs at hand, and trust the former things to Him who keeps the tears of His people in His bottle. He knows that youngster, that former one; He hears the groaning for them even when your voice must be spent upon other duties.

You have rightly felt your emptiness. That is the very posture required. A man can receive nothing unless it is given him to receive it, and the gift is the Holy Spirit. The grace to do both, to hold fast one duty without letting go the other, is not a wage for your straining; it is a free gift for those without strength. The Lord will give grace, and He will give it readily. You shall not have to tug and strain as if you would win it by your own labour. He will write the needed strength upon your heart, and you will find yourself running in the way of His commandments because He has enlarged your steps.

Go, then, to your duties as a man enlisted for the battle. The church is a drill-ground, a training-place for comrades who are to march and fight. Set things in order, finish each task, meet the pressing need, and as you pour yourself out in the teaching, the prayer meetings, the Bible studies, you will find that the very act of serving the new things renews your strength. The grace you need for the hidden intercession will be given as you obey the public call. He who sets before you an open door will not mock you by refusing the strength to walk through it.

Above all, keep your eye upon Christ, who is all grace and glory. The way of grace is the way to glory, and glory is but grace brought to its perfection. Let us think grace, live grace, sing grace. And then, when we get to heaven, we will live glory and sing glory and ascribe it all to Him that loved us. Until then, may the Lord make you to know the heights and breadths of a love that passes knowledge.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request for grace to take hold of one thing without letting go of the other is a wise prayer, and it is right to ask that neither grief nor activity pull you from the fear of God. The desire for her full, authentic repentance and saving trust in Christ is good, and we can join you in it. But remember that Christ ever lives to make intercession for those who come to God by Him, and He is able to save to the uttermost. Her salvation is not suspended on the strength of your anxiety. Lay her before the Lord, shut the doors of the mind against distraction and despondency, and then go about the works He has given you.

Pray also for the child, that he be nourished on the word and brought up in the admonition of the Lord. That is itself one of the new things you are to attend to, not an encumbrance to be laid aside. I do not know the whole relation, but the principle is this: if there remains a covenant bond, then prayer for her repentance belongs to faithfulness and is not an old thing to be forgotten. If the relation is already severed, then intercede for her as Paul did for Israel, with heartfelt desire and prayer for her salvation, but do not let the memory of it rule your present calling.

Paul in prison did not send for Timothy for his own relief, but for the ministry of the Gospel. Let your prayers for help and open doors be after that pattern: not chiefly to ease your own sorrow, but that the word may run and be glorified. The Lord has opened doors before that were shut, and what He opens no one shuts. But an open door is not an invitation to rest; it is an opening for labor.

It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. In your case the two are intercession and present obedience. The one who fears God will escape the snares of both: neither coldness toward her soul nor neglect of the flock. New things from God are not novelties that overturn His commandments. They are fresh obedience, fresh opportunities to make disciples, fresh strength for duties already written.

We ask with you for open doors for the gospel, for favor as a shield, for wisdom from above, and for protection from temptation, sin, evil people, and the evil one. May the Lord grant you to set in order what remains, to finish each task, and to run in such a way as to obtain the prize, with your heart enlarged for both intercession and obedience. Amen.

The daily mercies you mention are the right place to begin. They do not run out, and they are not earned. The same mercy that has carried you this far will carry both the long intercessions and the ordinary duties. So keep asking for her full turning to Christ and for the child to be saved, filled with the Spirit, guarded, and brought up in the word. But let the ground of your hope be the gospel of grace. Salvation is not gained by persistence, penance, or law keeping. It is received by faith in Jesus Christ, and that is the only gospel that saves. Pray without ceasing, then rest the outcome on the finished work of Christ rather than on the strength of your prayers.

The wisdom you prayed for from Ecclesiastes is real. You can hold one thing without letting go of the other. You do not need to abandon concern for former things in order to be faithful to what God is doing now. Ask Him to open the doors no one can shut, to give you boldness with the lost, and to strengthen the work of teaching and discipleship before you. As you do, keep your focus on the Lord rather than on the size of the difficulties. The more you look to Christ, the more the pressures shrink to their true place under His rule.

Ask also for grace to set things in order and to finish each task. That is not a lesser request. It is obedience, and the same grace that saves also equips you for every good work. Let the new covenant give you confidence here. It is built on God's faithfulness and God's work, not on your perfection. That is why you can intercede with steadiness and still work with diligence, without anxiety.

There is a holy forgetting. It does not mean the person or the need is no longer on your heart. It means what lies behind no longer gets to define the race. Lay aside the encumbrances and diversions, and press toward the upward call in Christ Jesus. Run in such a way that prayer and duty alike are aimed at the prize. I join you in asking for protection from temptation, from sin, from evil people, and from the evil one. Trust the Lord to be a shield around you, and may the new doors before you become occasions for the good news of Jesus Christ.

We are deeply grateful for the privilege of standing with you in prayer, lifting up these sacred burdens before our Heavenly Father. Your request has been heavy on our hearts as we have interceded for grace to balance the weight of past concerns with the call to embrace new things God is doingโ€”holding fast to what must not be released while pressing forward into His fresh purposes.

We rejoice in the daily mercies and faithfulness of God (Lamentations 3:23) that sustain you, and we continue to pray fervently for the salvation and spiritual growth of those youโ€™ve mentioned, that they may come to full repentance and trust in Christ (Romans 10:1, 2 Timothy 3:15). We ask the Lord to grant you wisdom and strength to fulfill your duties (Titus 3:14) while shifting focus to the new works He is preparing (Isaiah 42:9, Isaiah 43:19), that you may walk in both grace and truth (Ecclesiastes 7:18).

If the Lord has answered any of these petitionsโ€”whether in open doors for the Gospel (Revelation 3:7-8), favor as a shield (Psalm 5:12), or fresh empowerment for ministryโ€”we would be blessed to hear a praise report so we may rejoice together. If some requests remain unanswered, we invite you to post them again so we may continue standing in agreement with you before the throne of grace.

May the Lord bless you with His presence as you seek Him, granting you the ability to forget what lies behind and strain toward what lies ahead (Philippians 3:13-14), running the race set before you with endurance (Hebrews 12:1-2). May He guide your steps, protect you from temptation (Luke 11:4), and fill you with His Spirit to accomplish all He has called you to do.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
