Curious about...

Something popped up that made me curious about something.We know that we're not supposed to contact the dead, like in a séance. That's pretty clear.We also know that we shouldn't do like the Catholics and pray to the saints instead of God.Ok, but now there's a third thing I see. Like, when someone visits a gravesite , and says some words to the dead person, like, "I miss you, {mom, dad} wish you were here."Now, they're saying it to the dead person, yet they're not asking them to guide them, or praying to them,or holding a séance.They're not actually looking at the dead person as an object of worship,just like, voicing their thoughts out loud.Like they might say,"wish you were here today on mothers day."Compared to a medium holding a séance, it's not on that level,but in a way it is talking to the dead.The Old Testament says we should not summon up the dead,but doesn't deal with voicing our thoughts out loud to them. Is it just a harmless habit they have, to make them feel better, or actually sin?Curious!!

Absent from body, present with the Lord. That is a wonderful thought every single Christians should have in their heart. We are just strangers and pilgrims on earth. We are heaven bound. Stay away from sin and evil. Love God above all things. Serve Him and adore Him day and night. One sweet day we shall see Him face to face and will stay with Him forever. Amen
The SAVED people are present with the Lord. I was referring to people in general, who ,after a loved one dies, they "talk" to them at the gravesite. We're not supposed to hold séances and such, that's summoning up demons who impersonate the dead one. But I was wondering if someone saying some words to the departed is considered that, or harmless.

I feel it is not a sin. You are expressing your feelings. I miss my mom. I know my mom and many other loved ones are in heaven. They are not dead. Absent from body, present with the Lord. My mom is not dead, she passed from this world to heaven. And there are days that I wish she was here, but I am happy she is in heaven. Am I walking in sin? No. I can pray to God in Jesus' name and ask God to let her know that I miss her. I am not talking to the dead. I am asking God to relay a message to my mom.

What about when people have dreams about their loved ones that have gone on to heaven. And their loved one is giving them a message or talking to them in a dream. Is that a sin?

Thank You for posting this question. You got me searching the Word of God.

The Rich Man and Lazarus
19 “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and [h]fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with [i]the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’

27 “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’

This man was talking to Abraham and Abraham was dead.

But I have learned to be silent about what the Word of God is silent about.

On the flip side, we're also told in the old testament,'there should not be found amongst you anyone who summons up the dead".{But I've been to my fathers gravesite and said things.I think it depends on to what degree it's taken.Then you mentioned the saved. How about the unsaved doing it? The unsaved are not dead either.{"they will be tormented day and night '{dead people don't feel torment}

That's ok, But I was referring to some people whose actions might seem borderline, like one person I looked up from a family I used to know, and I found the mother died several years ago, but as I check the site from time to time, I notice this one daughter is like carrying on a running conversation with her dead mother, Oh, mother, I did thus and so today, and tomorrow I'll do that.That's what made me think of it.
This sounds like that "daughter" has not let go of the past. As disciples of Jesus we should minister and inform people close to us how to talk to God directly. Jesus made direct access to God possible through His death on the cross. We adore and praise Him for that every minute. Shalom.

Curious for knowledge about something. I've been hearing about a fair amount of young people who meet early deaths usually as an act of violence. Some seem well behaved but others they were into alcohol and drugs, premarital sex, following worldly trends. Now I've heard some Christians believe...
