Counseling/Mentorship

Your honesty in bringing this struggle into the light is itself a work of grace, and I thank God for it. The burden of unforgiveness is heavy, and the Lord desires to train our hearts toward gentleness and to teach us to have a human soul that reflects His mercy.

Scripture shows us that blessedness belongs to those whose sins are covered and whose iniquities are forgiven. That blessedness removes shame and brings great glory, not because we have earned it, but because God in compassion forgives the entire debt through the blood of His Son. When we remember how much we have been forgiven, and for much greater things than we have suffered from others, we are freed to release others as well. Before forgiveness can take deep root, it helps to name our sins and hurts specifically before God, not in vague terms, but honestly telling Him what has wounded us and where we have held on to resentment. In that honest confession we come to know the greatness of His benefit toward us and we learn gratitude.

I pray for you now. Father, I ask in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have forgiveness, that You would provide a wise and faithful counselor and mentor for this dear one. Lead to them a pastor, elder or mature believer who knows Your Word and walks in gentleness, who can listen well, speak truth with love, and walk alongside them step by step. Give them courage to enter fully into the thought of their sins and sorrows, to bring them to You in repentance, and to receive Your forgiveness anew. Teach them to forgive as they have been forgiven, not by their own strength but by Your Spirit. Bring healing where there has been hurt, soften what has become hard, and let the joy of being forgiven become the power to forgive. May they know the reward You promise to those who show mercy, to be called to account for none of their offenses because they have walked in Your mercy. Grant them perseverance, hope and peace as they continue to seek You. Amen.

Continue to seek that trusted mentor in your local church, someone who will pray with you regularly, open Scripture with you, and help you practice forgiveness in daily life. God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you.

Thank you for sharing this honest request about your struggle with unforgiveness. Wanting godly counseling and mentorship is a wise and humble step, and it is good to bring that desire to the Lord in prayer.

Unforgiveness is a deep wound, and healing for wounds like this is real, though it often takes time. In the ministry of Jesus we see that He did not heal in only one way. Sometimes He healed instantly with a word, sometimes with a touch, sometimes even at a distance, and in one case at Bethsaida the healing came gradually. That variety reminds us that God is not confined to a single pattern. Much about how and when He brings healing remains mysterious to us, and we do not always understand why some healing comes quickly and some comes slowly.

What we do know is that all true healing is from Him. The natural processes He built into our bodies and minds are divine because He is the one who created them. He can heal instantly, and He can also heal through a gradual process, through truth, through prayer, and often through the help of other people He places in our lives. That includes the kind of healing that happens in our emotions and memories, where the scars left by hurt are softened and restored.

Scripture shows us that Jesus came to bear our infirmities as well as our sins, as Matthew explains when he applies Isaiah chapter 53 to the healings Jesus performed. The greatest healing is the forgiveness of our own sins through His broken body and shed blood, which we remember when we take communion. Because we have been so fully forgiven, we are called and enabled to forgive others, even when the hurt is deep. That does not mean the pain disappears immediately, but it means God can begin an inner healing as we walk in His forgiveness.

There will be times when God does not remove a struggle in the way we expect. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to be taken away, and God answered with grace to endure rather than instant removal. Yet we also know God is able and He is compassionate, and Jesus went about healing every kind of sickness and disease among the people. We can trust both His power and His wisdom.

For this reason, seeking a mature believer to walk with you is part of how God often brings healing. He uses counsel, Scripture, prayer, and steady encouragement over time to renew the mind and heart. The ultimate picture of His healing is in Revelation, where a river of life flows from the throne of God and the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations in the new heaven and new earth where He will make all things new. That future hope assures us that every wound will finally be made whole.

I am praying that God will provide a trustworthy, biblically grounded counselor or mentor for you, someone who will point you to Jesus, help you apply His Word to this area of unforgiveness, and walk with you patiently through the process. May the Lord give you grace to receive His forgiveness more deeply, strength to release those who have hurt you into His hands, and peace as He continues His healing work in your heart.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for God to provide counseling and mentorship for your struggle with unforgiveness.

We have continued to lift you up before the Lord, asking Him to bring godly and wise counsel into your life and to surround you with a mentor who can walk with you through this difficult area. We know that carrying unforgiveness can be a heavy burden, and we have prayed that the Lord would bring healing and freedom to your heart as you seek to forgive as Christ forgave us. His Word reminds us to be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you in Ephesians 4:32 and to bear with each other and forgive one another as the Lord forgave you in Colossians 3:13.

We pray that God will lead you to the right counselor or mentor, someone grounded in biblical truth who can offer wisdom, encouragement and accountability, and that He will give you strength and grace to release this hurt to Him and to experience His peace.

If your request has been answered and the Lord has provided counsel or has worked in your heart to bring freedom from unforgiveness, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered yet, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

We pray that the Lord will guide you to the support you need, soften your heart where it needs softening, and fill you with His love and mercy as you walk this journey. We ask for wisdom for any counselor or mentor He brings into your life. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name, Amen.
