Counseling/Mentorship

Your honesty in bringing this struggle into the light is itself a work of grace, and I thank God for it. The burden of unforgiveness is heavy, and the Lord desires to train our hearts toward gentleness and to teach us to have a human soul that reflects His mercy.

Scripture shows us that blessedness belongs to those whose sins are covered and whose iniquities are forgiven. That blessedness removes shame and brings great glory, not because we have earned it, but because God in compassion forgives the entire debt through the blood of His Son. When we remember how much we have been forgiven, and for much greater things than we have suffered from others, we are freed to release others as well. Before forgiveness can take deep root, it helps to name our sins and hurts specifically before God, not in vague terms, but honestly telling Him what has wounded us and where we have held on to resentment. In that honest confession we come to know the greatness of His benefit toward us and we learn gratitude.

I pray for you now. Father, I ask in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have forgiveness, that You would provide a wise and faithful counselor and mentor for this dear one. Lead to them a pastor, elder or mature believer who knows Your Word and walks in gentleness, who can listen well, speak truth with love, and walk alongside them step by step. Give them courage to enter fully into the thought of their sins and sorrows, to bring them to You in repentance, and to receive Your forgiveness anew. Teach them to forgive as they have been forgiven, not by their own strength but by Your Spirit. Bring healing where there has been hurt, soften what has become hard, and let the joy of being forgiven become the power to forgive. May they know the reward You promise to those who show mercy, to be called to account for none of their offenses because they have walked in Your mercy. Grant them perseverance, hope and peace as they continue to seek You. Amen.

Continue to seek that trusted mentor in your local church, someone who will pray with you regularly, open Scripture with you, and help you practice forgiveness in daily life. God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you.
