corrupted cops and hotel owners

Disciple of Prayer
My very old aunt and I live in a home surrounded by two hotels on both left/right side. Their guests were always noisy to the point we frequently lost sleep for years. Actually we live in this whole neighborhood that is part of a huge nightlife tourist location where everything has always been super busy and VERY NOISY. Now I turn on speakers in my very own home, where the concrete walls are quite thick, for personal use and these hotel owners threaten to call the cops (noise complaint) on me. Please pray for me and pray that the Lord protects me from these business owners and the corrupted cops they probably bribed. Thanks.

We hear your burden and we lift you and your very old aunt before the Lord together, for we know how wearying it is to lose sleep night after night and to feel surrounded and pressured in your own home. We understand the frustration of living for years in a very busy and noisy tourist area where rest has been difficult, and now feeling threatened when you simply wish to enjoy your own home in peace.

We want to gently counsel you about a couple of matters in your request so that our prayers and our attitudes remain aligned with scripture. You mention corrupted cops who were probably bribed. We understand why you might feel that way when you feel powerless against business owners, but we must be careful not to bear false witness or to accuse without knowledge. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor Exodus 20:16, and we are called to guard our hearts against assuming evil intent. Let every person be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God Romans 13:1. Even when we have had difficult experiences with authorities, God calls us to respect the office and to pray for them rather than to condemn them hastily. We also want to encourage you to examine your own use of speakers with love for neighbor in mind. Even with thick concrete walls and even when others have been noisy toward you, we are called to not repay evil for evil but to seek peace. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18 and Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God Matthew 5:9. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good Romans 12:21. This does not mean you cannot enjoy music or sound in your home, but it does mean we should be considerate, keep volume at a reasonable level, and not use sound as a way to retaliate for the years of noise you have endured.

We encourage you to pursue peaceable and lawful ways forward. Keep a calm and respectful dialogue if possible with the hotel owners, keep a record of disturbances if needed, and if necessary seek mediation through proper local channels rather than through conflict. We will pray that the Lord gives you wisdom and favor and that He softens hearts on all sides so that neighbors can dwell together more quietly. We also remember your aunt with compassion, asking God to grant her rest and quietness. I will both lay me down and sleep in peace, for you, Yahweh, alone make me live in safety Psalm 4:8.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is in His name we pray and find protection and peace.

We pray together now for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift this dear one and their elderly aunt to You. You see their home between these two hotels and You know the years of broken sleep and weariness they have carried. We ask that You cover their home with Your protection, He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty Psalm 91:1. Grant them quiet nights and calm days, and guard them from any threat or intimidation. We pray for the hotel owners and their guests, that You would give them consideration and kindness toward their neighbors, and we pray for the local police and authorities, that You would give them integrity, wisdom and fairness in every situation. Help our friend to respond with grace and not with accusation or retaliation, and to be a peacemaker in that noisy neighborhood. Give wisdom for practical steps to seek peace and to live out love for neighbor while also being able to enjoy their own home. We ask for Your perfect peace to guard their hearts and minds, and that they would cast all anxiety on You knowing You care for them. We pray this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, amen.

We have been thinking about you and your ###, living for years between those hotels with so little quiet, and now feeling threatened in your own home. It makes sense you would feel on edge and unsafe when the noise has already cost you so much sleep and the people around you have power you worry will be misused.

It is discouraging to feel you have endured a lot of noise from others and now face complaints yourself for using speakers behind thick walls. We pray you both get real rest and a sense of security at home.

One small step that has helped others in tight, noisy neighborhoods is to keep a simple note of when you use your speakers, at what volume and for how long, and to learn what your town considers reasonable hours and levels. That way if anyone does complain you have a clear, calm record and you know where you stand. Keeping things at a considerate level and, if you feel safe to do so, a brief, polite word with a manager can sometimes lower tension, but if you ever feel unsafe, step back and seek a trusted neighbor or local mediation help instead of engaging directly.

Father, we lift this home to You. Guard this dear ### and her family, give them peaceful nights and wisdom for each interaction, and let them know Your presence is their true protection. Guide the neighbors and authorities toward fairness. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your trial has been heard and your care for your very old aunt in the midst of such constant noise is itself a tender work before the Lord. To live for years with broken sleep because of the tumult of a nightlife district is a heavy burden, and to feel threatened in your own home within thick concrete walls by those who have power and influence brings a natural fear. We will pray that the Lord spreads his protection over you both.

Remember that our God has declared that he will break down everything which sets itself up in opposition to him, and that he will lift up the poor from the dunghill while he casts down the mighty from the seats of their pomp and their places of power. No bribe and no threat can hide from his eye, for he is clear when he speaks and just when he condemns. If any indeed pervert justice, they shall not escape his judgment, and if any are wronged, he is faithful to vindicate. He who will ransom his people from the power of the grave will also redeem them from present trouble, for if it is not too hard for him to raise the body from the dust, it is not too hard for him to give quiet sleep and safety behind your walls.

Yet hear also a word of wisdom concerning the promise that he shall give his angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways. That protection is perpetual as well as personal, but it is given in appointed ways. We are warned to beware of a spirit of willfulness, moving without need and acting in direct opposition to the order of his providence. And we are taught that there is a way of separation from the world and close walking with God, and that no man ever suffered real injury through keeping himself aloof from the ways of ungodly men, while no man ever failed to be a gainer by close fellowship with God. Therefore seek peace with all men as much as lieth in you. Let your use of speakers in your home be governed by love of neighbour, not by retaliation for years of noise. Do not give occasion for a just complaint, and keep yourself from your iniquity, whatever form it may take for you, whether it be anger, or a desire to repay in kind, or a hard thought against those who trouble you. The most effective testimony is godliness lived quietly before those who watch.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, thou who seest the poor and the aged, look upon this home and this aunt who dwells there. Thou knowest the years of sleepless nights and the weariness that comes from unceasing tumult. Grant them quietness and rest, and let their dwelling be kept in peace. Put thy hand over them and keep them from all harm and from all unjust dealing. If any in authority have been corrupted, bring them to acknowledge their guilt and to do justice, for thou art just and thou lovest righteousness. If any threaten from pride or from love of gain, humble what is arrogant and bring to nothing what opposes thy goodness. Teach thy servants to walk in appointed ways, to be at peace where they are placed, to speak and to act with gentleness, and to find their protection not in contention but in close walking with thee. Give them wisdom to use what thou hast given them without offence, and give their neighbours also a spirit of consideration. Above all, let them know the consolation that is in Christ Jesus alone, in whose blood there is forgiveness and whose merits speak peace. Keep them day and night, and let no real evil come near them. In Jesus Christ our only Saviour we ask it, Amen.
