corrupted authorities

We have heard the weight of what you are carrying living under authorities who use their power for greed, who stir up fear and search carefully for any fault to exploit for money. It is a heavy and wearying trial to live under such pressure, and it is right to bring it before the Lord who sees all and judges with perfect justice.

Scripture teaches us that a tree is known by its fruit, and when the fruit is oppression, deceit and covetousness, it reveals the corruption within. Greed does not present itself openly. It wears a mask and calls itself justice or duty, but underneath it is deceit that corrupts the heart. Whether a person steals a house or shaves a little from what is due in a dishonest deal, the injustice is the same before God, for He judges not the amount but the intention of the heart. Those who corrupt justice to take from their neighbor may seem to succeed for a time because wealth and flattery can pervert human courts, but they cannot corrupt the judge within. God has planted conscience in every person, and that inner witness cannot be bribed. It scourges and troubles those who practice injustice, even when they pretend otherwise. And beyond that, there is the judgment of God Himself, who cannot be deceived or bought, and before whom all thoughts perish.

So we pray for you now. Father in heaven, we ask You to be a shield and refuge for this person and for all who suffer under greedy and oppressive authorities. Restrain those who would use fear and false accusation for gain. Expose deceit and bring their schemes to nothing. Give wisdom and discernment to know how to answer, how to live with integrity, and how to avoid their traps, and provide for every material need they threaten. Let Your justice be seen on earth, and keep Your people from giving way to fear, but fill them with peace that comes from trusting You more than any man. We also pray for those in authority, that You would awaken their conscience, show them the bitterness of injustice which harms their own souls most of all, and lead them to repentance and to walk in honesty and true service.

Continue to cast your cares on the Lord, for He neither slumbers nor overlooks what is done. He will be your defender and provider. Walk in honesty before Him, do what is right even when others do not, and trust that He who will judge all with righteousness will also sustain you day by day.
