"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.'” Therefore I willboast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong," 2 Cor 12:8-10. "The one who tames the tongue controls the whole body," James 3:2, but "No person can tame the tongue," Jam 3:8, "But Jesus said, 'What is impossible with man is possible with God,'" Luke 18:27. "While Confessing My Sins and The Sins of My Nation," Daniel 9:20, "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land," 2 Chronicles 7:14... Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and were there a button to push representing that ability to delete all future stumbling prior to their occurring, we'd gladly press it without delay or hesitation (since we all stumble often, specifically with the tongue, James 3:2). Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humanity and even Christians are at best still "human," we are content with what remedy we have, namely the prescription to humbly confess and forsake our sins, and promises of not only that we'll find mercy, Prov 28:13, but cleansing from all unrighteousness, 1 Jn 1:9, and even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument of the tongue we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Voice, Missed Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence, 1 Cor 10:13... I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even if they were true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I confess with Isaiah, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5, and confess like Peter, I am an unclean man, Luke 5:8.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, who has helped us and will yet again, others assisting us in prayers, 2 Cor 1:10-11, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... We join you in this deep confession and hunger for holiness, and we thank God for the sincerity and scriptural longing in your heart. You have rightly brought together the great promises of confession and restoration, for it is written if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land, 2 Chron 7:14. We see this lived out when Daniel said now while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God for the holy mountain of my God, Dan 9:20. That is the pattern God honors, not mere words but humbling, seeking His face, and turning.

We affirm with you that confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed, James 5:16 and if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy, Prov 28:13. We rejoice that you have not concealed but have openly agreed with God about sin, especially sins of the tongue and the anger of man. For we know that let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, James 1:19, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God, James 1:20. And you have rightly remembered that in many things we all stumble, if anyone does not stumble in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also, James 3:2, and yet no one can tame the tongue, James 3:8. This is why your confession is so precious, it acknowledges human weakness and casts you wholly upon Christ.

We also hear your longing to be done with all future sin, to press a button and be free from stumbling. We gently correct and encourage you there, for while we are called to be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect, Matt 5:48, and to walk just like he walked, 1 John 2:6, sanctification is both a finished work in Christ and an ongoing work in us as we work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure, Phil 2:12-13. Bearing fruit with patience and bringing forth fruit worthy of repentance, Matt 3:8, is our daily calling. God has not given us a button to bypass the cross, but He has given us grace that is sufficient. For He said to Paul, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, 2 Cor 12:9, and therefore most gladly will we boast in our weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on us. That is why for Christ's sake we take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for when we are weak, then we are strong, 2 Cor 12:10. Your boasting is not in the sin itself but in the weakness that drives you to Christ, and by faith through weakness we are made strong, Heb 11:34, for what is impossible with men is possible with God, Luke 18:27.

We love that your goal is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith, 1 Tim 1:5. That is the harvest God intends. For all chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous, yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised thereby, Heb 12:11. You have tasted that discipline, saying it was good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes, Ps 119:71, and though Yahweh has severely chastened me, he has not given me over to death, Ps 118:18. We are reminded that even Jesus, though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered and having been made perfect, he became to all of those who obey him the author of eternal salvation, Heb 5:8-9, for it was fitting that he through whom are all things, should bring many children to glory to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings, Heb 2:10. If He was perfected through suffering, how much more will our trials produce endurance and proven character and hope that does not disappoint, Rom 5:3-5, and patience that we may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing, James 1:2-4.

We rejoice that you have come in the only name by which we must be saved, for there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12, and there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 1 Tim 2:5, and whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, John 14:13. You are abiding in Him and His words abiding in you, John 15:7, and His words are spirit and are life, John 6:63, and we cling with you to that.

We pray together now.

Father, we humble ourselves before You, confessing our own sin and the sins of our people, turning from our wicked ways and seeking Your face. Thank You for Your mercy and grace to help in time of need, Heb 4:16, and that You never leave us nor forsake us, Heb 13:5. Forgive us for missing Your warnings, for not always taking the way of escape You faithfully provide, 1 Cor 10:13, for speaking and typing words mixed with pride, empty conceit, and the anger of man, for not preferring others and not having the mind of Christ who humbled Himself, Phil 2:3-5. Forgive us for not always treating others as more important than ourselves and for not submitting to one another in the fear of Christ, Eph 5:21. We agree with Isaiah, we are men of unclean lips, Isa 6:5, and with Peter, depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Luke 5:8, and with Job, surely I have spoken things I did not understand, therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes, Job 42:3-6. Cleanse us from all unrighteousness according to Your promise, and grant us grace to forsake what we confess. Lord, You are gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, Ex 34:6. Teach us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger, and tame our tongues by Your Spirit, for we cannot do it ourselves. Let our words be gracious and comforting as Yours are, Zech 1:13, and as You speak what the Father has given You to speak, John 12:49, so teach us what to say and how to say it in the best way possible. Perfect Your power in our weakness, make us strong through faith, renew our minds, Rom 12:2, and cause our trials to yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness and an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17. Produce in us pure love, a good conscience, and sincere faith, and let us walk as Jesus walked, to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, and to be imitators of God as beloved children, Eph 5:1. We take words with us and return to You, saying take away all iniquity, and accept that which is good, Hos 14:2. Work all things together for good for those who love You, Rom 8:28, and keep us faithful until You give the crown of life, James 1:12, that we may overcome and reign with Christ. We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Mediator, amen.

We are grateful you poured this out so honestly before the Lord. We hear how heavy the misuse of words has felt, the mixture of pride and anger and the deep wish you named that there were a button to press to be done with future stumbling altogether. That longing to walk cleanly before God matters to Him.

What has helped many who carry this same burden is to see confession not as a single event to get over with, but as a process you live out. It begins with honestly naming what happened before God, and it often brings real healing when you also name it out loud to one trusted, mature believer who can pray with you and walk with you over time. True turning is less about feeling sorry enough in the moment and more about a change of mind that slowly shows up in new choices.

If it would help, consider taking just one part of what you confessed here, perhaps how anger shapes what you say and type, and share it face to face this week with a pastor or mentor you trust. Ask him to pray with you and to check in with you regularly. Staying close to Christ in simple, steady ways, listening and obeying as you are able, is how that ongoing work of being made holy takes shape. It is gradual, and God is patient as He forms us, and He meets us in our weakness rather than turning away from it.

Father, we thank You for Your mercy when we come honestly. We bring our brother to You and ask for Your cleansing, for a renewed mind, and for grace to use his tongue to build up. Keep him near Jesus today and give him strength for the next faithful step. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is much in your confession that evidences the work of the Holy Spirit in the heart. You have not mistaken repentance for a thing that happens only at the commencement of the spiritual life and is then done with, for repentance lives as long as faith. Sweet sister repentance is charming company and she abides with us till we enter the gates of pearl, and her tears make a rainbow with her glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work.

Take care to weigh your repentance in the scales of truth, for there is a carnal repentance that is of the flesh and after the manner of the sinful nature, produced by judgment or fear, and it gives no glory to God. True repentance, the repentance which is the work of the Spirit of God and which God accepts, gives God glory. It makes a man weep and abhor his past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it makes him avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for him. Such repentance looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only, and it yields works meet for repentance and it lasts. This is repentance unto life, a true sign of eternal salvation in Christ.

You have done well to take words with you and turn unto the Lord, saying, Take away all iniquity and receive us graciously. Let your confession be first and chiefly unto God. Imitate the publican who directed his prayer to one place and to one alone, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. That confession was secret and it was spontaneous, and its excellence lay in its being poured out from the heart without question or prompting. Before man let it be general, I am a sinner, but before God make a plain and full confession, for He cannot be polluted by your iniquity and He invites you to come with boldness to the throne of grace. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and that remission is preached in the name of Jesus among all nations. Repentance itself is the gift of God, and it is never to be put in the place of Christ, but to lead you to Him who alone is the one Mediator between God and man, and the only name given under heaven by which we must be saved.

You speak truly of the tongue and of pride and of anger. No man can tame the tongue, though he that tames it controls the whole body, and what is impossible with man is possible with God. Here also is the trial of humility, for humility must have the throne of the heart and not merely live in the face, and it must be genuine. Before honor is humility, and we are called to serve the Lord with all humility of mind, humility before the service, humility during the service, and humility when all is done. A right estimate of ourselves will keep us slow to become angry, quick to listen and slow to speak, for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. The Lord our God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and that goodness should lead us to repentance and to a burning indignation against sin because it is committed against so holy and so glorious a Being.

You have pleaded that His grace may be sufficient for you, and so it is, for His power is perfected in weakness. Therefore you may boast all the more gladly in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties, that the power of Christ may rest upon you, for when you are weak then you are strong. By faith those who were weak were made strong, not by a button to be pressed to delete future stumbling, but by a daily training under the hand of a Father who disciplines not to give you over to death but for your good, that you may learn His commands. No discipline seems pleasant at the present, but afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it, and it works patience and proven character and a hope that does not disappoint.

Continue then in the means the Lord has appointed. Humble yourself, pray, seek His face and turn from wicked ways, and He will hear from heaven and forgive. Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed, for the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Abide in Christ and in His words, for without Him you can do nothing, and with Him you may walk even as He walked, not by your own strength but by the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit who both wills and works within you. May the Lord open your lips that your mouth may show forth His praise, and may He cleanse you from blood guiltiness and from unclean lips, that your tongue may sing aloud of His righteousness and render the calves of your lips unto Him who was found worthy and was perfected through suffering to become the author of eternal salvation.

Your confession has been heard with thankfulness, and we join you in giving thanks that God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and that He has promised that if His people humble themselves and pray and seek His face and turn from their wicked ways, He will hear from heaven and forgive their sin.

You have spoken honestly about the struggle with the tongue and with anger, and about the desire to be done with sin altogether. Scripture shares that desire and also shows the remedy God has given. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We are to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another that we may be healed. That confession is not meant to be a display for the sake of credit, but a true humility before God. True humility is the groundwork of all that is good, blessed are the poor in spirit, and it is shown not only when we call ourselves sinners but when we bear patiently when others reprove us, acknowledging our fault and enduring it without wrath or disputing.

You have rightly noted that no one can tame the tongue by human strength alone, and yet what is impossible with man is possible with God. His grace is sufficient for you, for His power is perfected in weakness. That is why we can even boast in our weaknesses, in insults and hardships and difficulties, so that the power of Christ may rest on us, and by faith those who were weak are made strong. God uses affliction and discipline not to destroy but to train us, and though it is not pleasant at the present but grievous, afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Therefore do not dishonor the tongue but adorn it with gentleness and humility, make it worthy of God, fill it with blessing and with doing good to others, for even a word spoken with meekness can be better than a gift. Put a bridle on the tongue, cast off unseasonable anger and disorderly desires, and let your speech be in the law of the Most High. This is part of bringing forth fruits worthy of repentance. Repentance is not only sorrow with tears as Esau had, but a turning that bears fruit, with a contrite heart, with prayers and compunction and humility and mercy toward others, forgiving as Christ forgave you, and giving thanks to God in all things.

We pray for you now that the Lord who answered with gracious and comforting words will renew your mind, that you will be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, and that you will know the contentment of His presence and the cleansing He promises. May He grant you a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith, so that your love may be genuine, and may He cause you to walk as Jesus walked, by the power of the Holy Spirit. May He who alone is mediator between God and man, Jesus Christ, whose name alone under heaven saves us, keep you abiding in Him and in His words, and bring forth in you a harvest of righteousness and peace, and an everlasting quietness and confidence.
