We hear your heart and the struggle you're facing regarding your church. It’s important to approach this decision with prayer, wisdom, and discernment, seeking God’s will above all else. The body of Christ is meant to be a place of spiritual nourishment, accountability, and fellowship, but we also recognize that not every congregation aligns perfectly with God’s design or may even stray from biblical truth at times. Let’s bring this before the Lord together.
First, we want to encourage you to examine your reasons for wanting to leave. Are there doctrinal concerns, unrepentant sin within the leadership or congregation, or a lack of spiritual growth that is leading you to this point? Scripture calls us to hold fast to sound teaching and to address sin with love and truth. As it says in 2 Timothy 4:3-4, "For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn aside to fables." If your church is straying from the truth of God’s Word, it is right to be concerned and to seek a body that upholds Scripture faithfully.
However, if your reasons are more personal, such as disagreements with individuals, feeling unfulfilled, or a lack of connection, we urge you to prayerfully consider whether leaving is the best solution. The church is made up of imperfect people, and sometimes growth comes through perseverance and love. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, "Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as you see the Day approaching." If you feel led to leave, we encourage you to do so in a way that honors God and avoids division, seeking counsel from mature believers you trust.
We also want to gently remind you that no church is perfect, just as no individual is perfect. The goal should not be to find a "perfect" church but one that is faithful to Scripture, where you can grow in your walk with Christ and serve alongside fellow believers. Protect them from discouragement, bitterness, or division, and fill them with Your peace as they seek Your guidance.
Lord, we also ask that You would remind them of the importance of the local church in their life. Help them to see it as a gift from You, a place to be equipped, encouraged, and held accountable. May they never forsake the assembling of believers but instead find joy in worshiping and serving alongside their brothers and sisters in Christ.

Your request has been heard and we will bring you before the Lord in prayer as you weigh this matter concerning your church.
There is a conviction which rightly leads a soul to seek a guide, for naturally we do not like being guided, yet the work of grace teaches us our need of it. The Psalmist says, Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. On earth there is no real glory for us unless we are guided by God's counsel, and there is no true course for any man who takes his own way. One way the Lord guides His people is by great principles infused in the heart, among them to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to the will of God, for by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance.
In such a season you must not be hasty, for haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. Satan is ever considering the saints that he may do them injury, and he would gladly gain an advantage over us if we act upon impulse or wounded feeling. Yet all the while the Lord holds the enemy as a man holds a horse by its bridle, and considers exactly how far He will permit trial to go, that even temptation may answer His purpose and work lasting blessing to His people.
Therefore we counsel you to wait upon the Lord and to seek His mind in His Word and in prayer before you take any step. Ask yourself faithfully what are the reasons that move you. Is it a matter of doctrine or obedience to Christ, or is it discouragement because the church seems sleepy or officers seem slow to move, or is it some personal grief or offense that has wounded you. A church that is a Holy Spirit church will be known by its being steadfast, continuing in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, obedient to Christ and joyful in Him, and such a people, though imperfect, are to be loved and labored with. We have found that when a church is united and seeks to do the Savior's cause, God gives happiness and help to His people there, and cares and troubles seldom come from a faithful church itself.
Before you resolve to leave, go and speak openly and humbly with your pastor or other faithful officers, and open your heart to one or two mature believers who know you. Bring the whole matter to the Lord and ask Him to show you whether He would have you stand against the wiles of the enemy where you are, and help to awaken and strengthen what remains, or whether He is indeed guiding you to another place where you may still be added to a steadfast and holy congregation and continue to be kept for the Church in Heaven.

The church is not just a building or a weekly meeting, it is the body of Christ, and Scripture teaches us not to give up meeting together but to remain committed to one another in love, truth and patience. At the same time, God understands that there are times when believers wrestle with questions about where they are planted, whether because of teaching, conscience, conflict or a sense that they are not being fed and built up in the faith.
We encourage you to bring this decision before the Lord carefully and not quickly. Please ask Him to search your heart and to show you what is driving this desire. Is it a matter of biblical conviction about doctrine or practice, is it unresolved hurt or disappointment with people, or is it a season of dryness where you are not seeing fruit from your participation? Each of these calls for a different response, and the Lord wants to lead you with discernment.
We pray that God will help you to seek counsel in His Word, to speak honestly and humbly with trusted pastors or elders in your current church, and to listen well before making a final decision. If there are concerns about teaching or leadership, bring them into the light with Scripture and with a spirit of grace. Your request is important and I want to pray with you about it. The desire to leave a church is a serious matter and it is wise to bring it before the Lord rather than acting quickly on feeling alone.
Scripture shows us that every local church has both strengths and weaknesses. The church in Ephesus is a good example. It was hard working and patient, it did not tolerate evil and it had discernment to test what claimed to be true. Yet Jesus warned that church that it had left its first love, and He said that if it did not repent He would remove its lampstand. He was saying He will not remain where love is missing. Much of the weakness we see in churches today is not a lack of activity but a lack of love, and where love grows cold the presence of the Spirit is grieved.
It helps to remember that the long history of churches as a whole is not always a picture of what God intended. There has been much failure to be and to do what God desires. If you want to know what God intended the church to be, look at the pattern in the book of Acts. There you see a people devoted to the teaching of the apostles, to fellowship, to prayer, to breaking of bread, marked by love and by good works and by the power of God at work among them. That is the measuring line, more than disappointment or comparison with other fellowships.
As you pray, it may help to ask some honest questions before the Lord. Is the issue a lack of love in the fellowship, a coldness that has left you unfed? Is it a compromise with evil or with the ways of the world? A church that tries to join itself to the world system will never be healthy, because true righteousness must come from the heart and cannot be produced by outward pressure. Is it hypocrisy that has weakened the life of the body? Scripture teaches that leaven needs to be purged and that purity brings power. Discernment is needed, and the Ephesian church is commended for having it.
It is also important to examine your own heart and motives. The church in Corinth had innumerable problems, yet Paul did not tell the hurt or confused believers to simply walk away. He taught them to seek to resolve matters within the body and to value the complementary work of the whole body rather than seeing other ministries as competition. God has appointed spiritual men to oversee and shepherd the flock and to care for both spiritual and practical needs. One helpful step is to prayerfully speak with those who have that oversight, to share your concerns humbly and to listen, and to give them opportunity to address what troubles you.
Sometimes the Lord does lead a person to another fellowship where the Word is taught faithfully and love is evident, and sometimes He calls a person to remain and be part of the answer to what is lacking. Do not leave in bitterness or in haste. Seek wisdom, seek counsel within the body, and ask the Lord to show you whether He wants you to help strengthen what is weak or to be planted where you can grow and serve more faithfully according to the Acts pattern.
