I'm going to church today, so prayers for my church would be good and also for me to be more confident & to go with the Holy Spirit's leading. I don't know why I feel nervous to go church these days, maybe it's because I feel like I always need to be saying this & doing this, whereas at the start, I didn't feel that Also, today is the people getting baptized, so they may need prayer too. Thank you for anyone who replies or prays for me, God bless you

We rejoice with you as you gather with the body of Christ today, for the church is not merely a building but a living, breathing family united in the name of Jesus. It is beautiful that you desire to walk in step with the Holy Spirit’s leading, and we stand with you in prayer as you seek to grow in confidence and surrender to His guidance.

The nervousness you feel may stem from a place of comparison or the lie that your worth is tied to performance. Remember, beloved, that your acceptance before God is not based on what you say or do, but on the finished work of Christ. The apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast." You are not called to earn your place in the church, you are called to rest in the grace of Jesus and allow His love to flow through you naturally.

Today, as others take the joyful step of baptism, we celebrate with them the public declaration of their faith in Christ. Baptism is a powerful symbol of death to sin and new life in Him, as Romans 6:4 declares: "We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life." Let their obedience encourage your own heart to trust God more fully.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts for Your church, the bride of Christ. We lift up our brother/sister in Christ, asking that You would calm any anxiety or fear that seeks to hinder their walk with You. Fill them afresh with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, that they may move in confidence, not in their own strength, but in the assurance of Your love and purpose for them. Remind them that they are Your beloved child, fully accepted and cherished, not because of what they do, but because of what Jesus has already done.

We pray for the church gathered today, that Your presence would be tangible, Your Word would be alive, and Your people would be united in love and truth. Bless those being baptized, Father. Seal their faith, strengthen their resolve, and let their testimony be a light to others. May every heart present be drawn closer to You, and may the enemy’s attempts to distract or discourage be shattered in the name of Jesus.

Lord, we ask that You would break any chains of comparison, performance, or fear that have taken root. Replace them with the peace that surpasses all understanding, as Philippians 4:7 promises. Help our brother/sister to fix their eyes on You, the author and perfecter of their faith, and to walk boldly in the calling You have placed on their life.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the One who makes a way for us to come before Your throne with confidence. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in this church, in this community, and in every heart present today. Amen.

Take heart, dear one. The church is not a stage for perfection, but a hospital for the broken, a family for the lonely, and a training ground for the saints. You are not alone in your struggles or your joys. As you step into this day, remember the words of 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." You are equipped, you are loved, and you are exactly where God wants you to be. Press into Him, and watch how He will use you for His glory.

We remember what it felt like at the start, when going to church was simpler, before expectations seemed to pile up. That shift you are noticing is real, and many of us have felt it: the weight of thinking we need to say the right thing or act the right way, when early on we just showed up and rested. Sometimes the church can unintentionally communicate that pressure, and it helps simply to name it like you have.

What if today you go and let yourself be small? Not in a shrinking way, but in a way that releases the burden to perform. You do not have to say anything profound or do anything noticeable. You are there because God welcomed you, not because you earned a seat. If the Holy Spirit prompts you, wonderful, but sometimes the Spirit's leading is simply to sit quietly and let others pour out while you receive. That is faithful too.

We also join you in praying for those being baptized today. There is something beautiful about watching others take this step while you are feeling unsure yourself. Their profession does not pressure yours; it can be a shared joy, not a comparison.

Next time you feel nervous going in, you might try arriving a few minutes early to sit in a familiar spot, recalling a moment when church felt like home. That memory can steady you before the service begins.

Lord, thank you for this person who wants to honor you in your church. Quiet their anxiety and remind them that simple presence is enough. Guard those being baptized, root them deep, and let today be one of gentle encouragement for all who gather. In Jesus' name.

The nervousness you feel is not from the Spirit of God, for He never leads His children to look to themselves. You say you feel you need to be “saying this and doing this”, that strain is the flesh striving after what only the Holy Spirit can produce. At the first, you had no such weight because you were not relying on your own strength. Return to that simplicity: the Holy Spirit’s work is to take of Christ and show Him to you, to glorify Him, not to magnify your performance. When you go to church, go not to do anything of yourself, but to receive from God. Prayer that is not in the Holy Spirit is in the flesh, but the Spirit Himself helpeth our infirmities; He is willing to teach you how to pray, how to worship, how simply to rest in Christ.

The feeling that you must be saying or doing something betrays a heart that has begun to grieve the Holy Spirit by unbelief. He is the Comforter, and there is no comfort like a sight of Christ. Look away from yourself. The Spirit of God does not give you new powers of your own making; He quickens what was dead, He illuminates the dark mind, but He ever draws you to lean wholly upon Jesus. When your confidence is placed in strong resolutions, you are, in essence, slighting the divine Helper. Be much in prayer, crying, “Return, O Holy Spirit, dwell in my soul,” and you will find that the strain lifts, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

For those baptized this day, pray earnestly that the Holy Spirit would fall upon them even as they hear the Word, for while we use outward ordinances, it is the Spirit alone who seals the inward grace. We as a church are weak only because we do not honor the Spirit as we ought; we trust our forms, our speech, our zeal. May the Spirit rest upon the whole assembly, taking of the things of Christ and showing them to every heart. Go, then, with this confidence: it is not what you say or do that commends you to God, but the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, whom the Father hath given to all His children. Rest in His working, and your nerves will be stilled in Christ.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. The ground of your nervousness is not strange to me, for it mirrors the very transition of the covenants. You feel you must always be saying this and doing that, as if the weight of the matter depended on your performance. Recall how the old baptism demanded human hands to wash, while the new baptism brought down the Spirit from heaven. When you first came to the faith, you felt the liberty of one who has simply received, like the disciples who were told, He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. That grace was not a trickle but a baptism, an overflowing. You did not labor, you were borne up by the abundance of the gift. The feeling that you must now anxiously supply what was once freely given is precisely the old mindset creeping back, mistaking the shadow for the substance.

But what power does the baptizer bring? None. Neither the purity of John nor the skill of the one who merely dips the head can confer the Spirit. The power belongs entirely to the One baptized and the Spirit who descends. Your confidence, then, is not in your own steadiness of nerve. The same Spirit who pointed out Christ to the first believers is the One who leads you now. When you feel this pressure to perform, you are forgetting that the Spirit Himself is the agent, the paraclete, the one who quickens. The confidence you ask for is not a boldness born of your own righteousness; the adulterer and the thief are anxious and fearful, while the one who rests on grace rejoices. Let your confidence be this: that Christ needed baptism not for His own cleansing but to open the door of the Church’s baptism, the one that alone has the Spirit’s grace. You stand on the other side of that open door.

As for those being baptized today, they are about to receive what you already possess but perhaps have forgotten to cling to. He did not send the Spirit while the curse remained, but now the enmity has been put away. We are no longer under the shadow. Pray for them, certainly, but let their immersion be a fresh vision for you of that moment when the heavens were opened, when we were called not to be mere servants but sons of God. The Holy Spirit does not lead by driving you with a whip of anxiety; He draws you with the dignity of adoption. Go, then, not calculating what you must say or do to be worthy, but remembering that the Spirit has been sent to prepare you beforehand. He is the one who leads, and you follow, leaving the rest to that abundant, uncontrollable grace.
