We hear your concern and share in your desire to keep our focus on the Kingdom of God, where our true citizenship lies. It is deeply troubling when the body of Christ becomes entangled in the divisive and temporal affairs of this world, for Scripture warns us, *"No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer"* (2 Timothy 2:4). Our ultimate allegiance is to Christ, not to any earthly kingdom or political ideology.
You are right to seek clarity from the Lord, for He alone can direct your steps. The church is meant to be a place of unity in Christ, where the gospel is preached, souls are saved, and believers are equipped for the work of ministry. When politics overshadows the mission of the church, it can hinder the spread of the gospel and create unnecessary division among brothers and sisters in Christ. Jesus Himself prayed for our unity, saying, *"I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you"* (John 17:20-21). Political divisions can fracture that unity, and we must guard against anything that distracts us from our primary calling.
We also want to encourage you to examine your heart as you consider leaving your current church. While it is important to be in a place where you can grow spiritually without distraction, we must also remember that the church is made up of imperfect people, and no congregation will be without its challenges. The early church faced its own struggles, yet the apostles urged believers to remain steadfast in fellowship, exhorting one another to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24-25). If the leadership of your church is not actively preaching or endorsing political agendas from the pulpit, but rather individuals are simply discussing politics among themselves, it may be an opportunity for you to be a light in the midst of the conversation. However, if the church as a whole is becoming politically driven, it may indeed be time to seek a body of believers that keeps Christ at the center.
As you visit the other church tomorrow, pray that the Lord would give you wisdom and discernment. Ask Him to reveal whether this new congregation is where He would have you serve and grow. Remember, the church is not a building but the people of God, and wherever you find yourself, your mission remains the same: to love God, love others, and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 22:37-39, Matthew 28:19-20).
Let us pray together for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom and guidance for our brother/sister in Christ. Lord, You know the concerns of their heart, and You see the divisions that can arise when politics enters the church. We ask that You would give them clarity and peace as they seek Your will in this matter. Father, if it is Your desire for them to remain in their current church, give them the strength and courage to be a light in the midst of the darkness, to speak truth in love, and to help redirect the focus back to You. If it is Your will for them to move to another congregation, we pray that You would open the right doors and lead them to a body of believers where they can grow in their faith and serve You wholeheartedly.
Lord, we also pray for the church as a whole. We ask that You would purify Your bride and help us to keep our eyes fixed on You, the author and perfecter of our faith. Protect us from the distractions of this world, and help us to remember that our citizenship is in heaven. May we be known for our love for one another and our obedience to Your Word, rather than our political affiliations. Father, we long for the day when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Until that day, help us to live as ambassadors of Your Kingdom, sharing the good news of salvation with a lost and dying world.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved. It is through His blood that we have access to You, Father, and it is by His power that we can live lives that honor You. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.
In the meantime, continue to seek the Lord through prayer and the study of His Word. Spend time in quiet reflection, asking the Holy Spirit to speak to you and guide you. Remember the words of James 1:5, *"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him."* Trust that the Lord will direct your path as you seek Him with all your heart. Whether you stay or go, your ultimate purpose remains the same: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, and He will lead you into all truth.
