🙏 Church Leaders' Devotional Lives (Pray, Study) Salvation of Lost (Hearing Word) in Church 💒 Holy Spirit Worship, Bible Teaching, Preaching...

You pray earnestly for the pastors’ devotion and for your family’s salvation, and rightly so. For it is no small thing when the flock is without a watchful shepherd or when souls stray from the hearing of the Word. Yet I must ask: you who intercede for others, do you yourself attend the assembly of the faithful as often as you ought? I blush for those who scarce once in the year are seen in church. Was this the custom planted from the beginning? By no means. This is a recent negligence that threatens salvation itself. If we are slack in these things, our prayers, though many, become an accusation against us. How shall we hope for mercy when we add to our other sins the very neglect of the gathering where mercy is dispensed?

Consider the Word you long for your family to hear. It is no dead letter. It is quick and powerful, sharper than any two‑edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart. It lives and works mightily in those who receive it with faith. Yet hearing alone is insufficient. What if one is free from riches but soft and unmanly? What if one listens yet does not hold fast in recollection and fortitude? The rocky soil shows us that careful hearing must be joined with a life freed from worldly cares and a continual remembrance. No single part of virtue is enough for salvation.

Do not be discouraged, for Christ considers our salvation His own glory. The Friend of man desires that many should be saved, and the Holy Spirit so yearns for it that He draws us. Nothing is of ourselves, not faith, not perseverance, not understanding, but all is of God. Therefore, while you pray, do not trust in your own words but in His loving‑kindness. At the same time, do your part. Bear the burdens of those family members, both reproving and supporting with patience, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Sometimes a gentle word, sometimes a steadfast example, will edify them more than many petitions if your life does not match your prayer. Let no luxury rot the fruit of your soul; plant useful trees, and keep your desire from generating unreasonable pleasures.

Remember Philip in Samaria. Great signs were done, and even a sorcerer believed and was baptized. Yet the Spirit was given through the apostles’ hands. God can break the hardest heart and pour out His Spirit where it seems impossible. The death of Jesus was for the salvation of the world, and His pierced side is the fountain of all grace. Anchor your hope there, and do not cease to pray, but also do not cease to live as one already saved, lest by your negligence you hinder the very answer you seek. For our salvation is not the work of preachers alone, but our own as well, as we receive the word in much affliction and hold it fast.

Therefore, continue to ask that your family be drawn by the Father, that they hear with understanding, and that the Holy Spirit convict and convert. But let them see in you a reverent fear of the Lord’s assembly, a hunger for the Word, and a life that adorns the gospel. Then they will be more easily won, and together you will bear witness to the truth that none perish, but all come to repentance. May the Lord grant you a hearing ear and a fruitful tongue, that you may be a sharer in their salvation and your own, to the glory of God, now and for ever. Amen.

Your burden for your family’s salvation and for the life of the church rests on solid ground, because you are asking for what only God can do and what He has promised to give. No one can genuinely call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Spirit. When you pray for your loved ones to hear the Word and truly understand what God is speaking, you are praying for the Spirit’s deepest work. Natural thinking cannot grasp the things of God; they are spiritually discerned. So when you ask the Father to draw them, to grant the Spirit of revelation, and to open their minds to understand the Scriptures, you are aligning your request with the very way Christ builds His church.

The Holy Spirit’s role is always to testify of Jesus. He takes the Word preached and makes it living and active, convincing hearts of sin, awakening faith, and bringing forth that genuine confession of Christ’s Lordship. Your prayer for the message of the crucified Lord to come with power is not a small thing. It is the same work we see in the early church: the word going forth, the Spirit confirming it, and lives being transformed. When you pray for your family to attend the gathering of believers and to receive the bread and the cup with true understanding, you are asking that they would be built into the body of Christ, where the Spirit distributes gifts, imparts wisdom, and makes Jesus known through one another.

Do not grow weary in this intercession. You are not simply hoping for a change of habit; you are asking for the direct, governing work of the Spirit to lead them. Just as the Spirit guided and sometimes redirected the apostles for the sake of the gospel, so He is fully able to overcome every obstacle, whether it is distraction, spiritual blindness, or the enemy who loves ignorance of God’s Word. The promise of the Spirit’s outpouring belongs to this age, and the Father delights to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask. Continue to stand on the truth that faith comes by hearing. As your family hears the Word, the Spirit will be present to convict, to teach all things, and to bring the knowledge of forgiveness and new life. Your confidence is not in a formula but in the risen Lord, who is actively seeking and saving the lost. He will be faithful to complete what He has begun.
