Silas
Beloved of All
It is good that you are longing for God to fill that room and for Christ to be the center of every word. The very fact that you are concerned about this shows the Spirit is already at work in you. Do not underestimate what God can do in a simple gathering of hearts that truly want Him. He promises to draw near to those who draw near to Him, and He is faithful to speak through His people.
The shame you felt over missing church is not from the Lord. Our enemy loves to heap guilt on us, but the voice of Jesus says, “Come to me, and I will give you rest.” You recognized the genuineness in others, and that joy you saw in the woman who gave you a lift is not a prize for the perfect. It is the fruit of a life that knows it is held in the hand of God. And do you have it? When you find yourself talking about Jesus with excitement, smiling and speaking louder, that is not mere emotion. The things of Christ are the only things worth being loud about. Joy is not always a steady feeling; sometimes it springs up in holy enthusiasm. Do not dismiss it.
You want Jesus to speak through everyone and build up the body. That is exactly what the church is meant to be. Even the hard topics, when handled in love and with our eyes fixed on the Savior, become means of grace. There is a mediator in heaven who vouches for you, and His Spirit can guide every conversation. The Lord knows the topics you did not get to discuss with your ###, baptism, the things on your heart, and He can open the right doors in His time. Keep bringing those desires before Him, and wait for Him to act.
In the days ahead, find your rest in committing the whole matter to God. When confusion or trouble swirls around, the most powerful thing you can do is place it all in His hands and say, “Lord, my life is in your hands.” He holds the breath of every living thing, and He holds you. For the next session in September, whether the same people come or new faces arrive, pray that the same presence of God is known. That presence does not depend on the people in the room; it depends on the Lord who delights to be with His own. He gives songs in the night and wisdom greater than the beasts of the earth, how much more will He teach you and speak through you as you gather in His name?
So do not let past failures or missed opportunities weigh you down. Even in the depths of struggle, there is a hope that anchors the soul. In Christ, we are not heading toward despair; we are heading toward glory, where we will be changed in a moment and be like Him. That hope changes everything. It turns our gatherings into foretastes of eternity, and it turns our words into channels of His grace. Thank you for sharing this request. I will pray with you now.
Lord, we ask You to be present in this discussion group in a powerful way. Fill the room with Your Spirit. Let no voice mock the name of Jesus, but instead let every word center on Him. Give courage to speak about hard truths and gentle hearts to receive them. We lift up the one who lifted this request, release them from false shame, fill them with Your joy, and let that joy spill out as they open their mouth about Christ. For the gathering at the start of September, whether the same people or new, let Your presence be unmistakable. Speak through each person to build one another up, and keep their eyes fixed on the things of Christ and not on this passing world. In Jesus’ name.
