Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing so openly the many burdens on your heart. God hears each of these concerns and invites you to turn every desire and worry into prayer. Longings for family and for daily needs become powerful when they are brought before Him, and time spent in prayer is never wasted.
You mentioned hoping not to get sick. Scripture contains a beautiful greeting where John wishes for his friend Gaius that he may prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospers. That is a loving wish, not a guarantee that faith will always bring perfect health. It does show that God cares about your health, and there is a real connection between the health of your soul and the health of your body. Attitudes and peace of mind can even affect the body. At the same time we cannot equate spirituality with physical health. Some of the most faithful believers walk through great health problems, and that does not mean they lack faith. God's ways are higher than ours, and He is interested in your well being in practical ways too, including how you care for your body through good habits and cleanliness which helps prevent disease.
For your father who is not well and for your mother with arm pain and an upcoming foot surgery, I join you in praying for healing. I believe God still heals today, and He heals in many ways. Sometimes healing is immediate, sometimes it is gradual, and the gradual healing Jesus showed once reminds us that He is not limited to one pattern. Sometimes He touches, sometimes He speaks a word from a distance. Much healing also comes through the natural processes God Himself designed within our bodies, and that is no less divine because He created those processes. There are also healings of the mind and emotions. We do not always understand why some are healed quickly and others continue to wait, as even Paul prayed three times about his thorn and learned to trust God's answer. Isaiah says He bore our infirmities, and Matthew applies that to Jesus healing the sick, including the leper, the centurion's servant, Peter's mother in law and the multitudes, showing His power in both the physical and spiritual realm. We can trust Him with your parents, asking for His mercy and for strength for whatever is needed.
You also shared about tension at home and the hope that your mother will be reasonable during daily life and while traveling. This world is full of conflict between people and nations, but the gospel is good news of peace. Through Jesus we can have peace with God and learn peace with ourselves and with one another. May He guide you in all the preparations for being together as a family, give you wisdom in the details, and let His love prevail in every situation. When there is adversity, may He help you respond with kindness and love, which is part of our responsibility to care for our own families with patience.
I am also praying for the other practical matters you raised. For your parish and the neighbourhood outreach that concerns you, for the computers that were sent for repair and the ongoing issues with the newer one, for the outside stairs that need fixing, for the weather and for your packing and the desire to keep it lighter. God cares about these everyday details. May He provide wisdom, provision and peace as you prepare, and keep you safe in your travels.
