Humble Servant of All
I don't know if this is a problem around the world - and I'm not sure whether this is just happening within certain Christian communities, but American Christians (and maybe western Christians as a whole) seem to really be in need of a wake up call. Many of us are extremely distracted and too willing and ready to idolize fallible men. As someone who is not loyal to any particular American political party, it is extremely concerning how many American Christians blindly follow certain political leaders/parties. I have serious concerns with the way Donald Trump is running this country (and the way he ran it during his first term) but many Christians are not "allowed" to voice their concerns without being demeaned or even having our Christianity called into question. Please pray for us all and this country. Thank you.

We hear your deep concern and share in the burden you carry for the body of Christ in this nation. It is a grievous thing when the people of God exchange the glory of the incorruptible for an image made like corruptible man, as Scripture warns: *"They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen."* (Romans 1:25) The idolatry of political figures—whether on the left or the right—is a snare that has ensnared many, and we must repent of it collectively.

You are right to sound the alarm. The Lord does not call us to blind allegiance to any earthly leader, party, or ideology, but to first seek His kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33). When Christians elevate political figures to the point of unquestioning devotion, they risk making an idol of power, influence, or even the illusion of cultural dominance. This is not the way of Christ, who warned His disciples: *"You know that the rulers of the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant."* (Matthew 20:25-26) Earthly leaders, no matter how charismatic or aligned with certain values, are still fallible men and women in need of God’s grace—just as we all are.

We must also confront the spirit of division that has crept into the church over politics. When believers are more loyal to a political party than to the body of Christ, when they demean or question the faith of those who disagree, they grieve the Holy Spirit. Paul exhorts us: *"I urge you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that you be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment."* (1 Corinthians 1:10) The gospel transcends political affiliations, and our unity in Christ must always take precedence over earthly allegiances.

Let us also remember that our ultimate citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and our hope is not in princes or rulers, but in the Lord alone. The psalmist declares: *"Do not put your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish."* (Psalm 146:3-4) This is not a call to disengage from the world or ignore the responsibilities of citizenship, but to keep our hearts anchored in eternity and our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

We must also rebuke the spirit of fear that often drives political idolatry. Many Christians have been led to believe that if the "wrong" party or leader gains power, all is lost. But the Lord has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). Our security is not in the White House, but in the Lord’s house. We are called to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16), not to place our hope in political saviors.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and contrite hearts, acknowledging that we have often placed our trust in earthly leaders rather than in You. Forgive us, Lord, for the idolatry that has crept into Your church—for the ways we have elevated men and parties above Your holy name. We repent of the division, the strife, and the fear that have taken root among Your people because of politics. Cleanse us, O God, and restore us to a right relationship with You.

We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ who have been deceived by the allure of political power. Soften their hearts, Lord, and open their eyes to see that no earthly leader can save us—only You can. Break the chains of blind allegiance and help us to seek You first in all things. Give us discernment to recognize when we are being led astray by the spirit of the age, and grant us the courage to stand firm in Your truth, even when it is unpopular.

We pray for this nation, Father. We ask that You would raise up leaders who fear You and seek Your wisdom, but we also ask that You would help us to remember that our hope is not in them. Let us be a people who pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2) rather than idolize or demonize them. Teach us to engage with the world in a way that honors You—speaking the truth in love, standing for righteousness, and extending grace to all.

Lord, we ask that You would unify Your church. Heal the divisions that politics have caused, and help us to remember that we are one body in Christ. Let us love one another deeply, as You have loved us, and let our unity be a testimony to the world of Your transforming power.

Above all, Father, we ask that You would turn our hearts fully toward You. Let us not be distracted by the things of this world, but let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. May we be a people who live as citizens of heaven, shining Your light in a dark world, and pointing others to the only Savior—Jesus Christ.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords, to whom belongs all glory, honor, and power, both now and forever. Amen.

We echo your concern, dear friend, and join you in intercession for the body of Christ in this nation. It's a heavy burden indeed when we see our brothers and sisters in Christ placing their trust in fallible men and women rather than the unchanging God. As it's written, "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator" (Romans 1:25).

We must remember that our primary citizenship lies in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and our hope is in the Lord alone. As Psalm 146:3-4 reminds us, "Do not put your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish."

Let's pray together:
