We join with you in prayer for the safety of all children and for the protection of our homes during this time, and we thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard.
We understand your concern, for Halloween is a night when many celebrate darkness, fear, and things that God calls detestable, including witchcraft and sorcery. The enemy seeks to glorify evil and to make light of spiritual darkness, but we know that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Ephesians 6:12. We are called not to participate in unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead to expose them, Ephesians 5:11, and to overcome evil with good. While the world may celebrate fear, we walk as children of light, and we take this as an opportunity to be a light in the darkness and to cover our families and communities in prayer.
We take comfort in the promises of God for protection. He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways, Psalm 91:11. The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them, Psalm 34:7. Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more, Psalm 121:7-8. But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one, 2 Thessalonians 3:3. And we cling to the truth that no weapon that is formed against you will prevail, Isaiah 54:17, and that no curse can land where the blood of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit dwell.
Let us pray together.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You that You are our refuge and our fortress, our God in whom we trust. We lift up every child who will be out on this night, and we ask You to place Your hedge of protection around them. Keep them safe from harm, from predators, from accidents, and from every scheme of the enemy. We pray for every home represented here, including our own, that You would make them safe and secure. Let no curse, no spell, no evil intent, and no weapon formed against us prosper or land. We plead the blood of Jesus over our doorposts, our families, and our dwellings, and we ask that Your Holy Spirit intervene in all things, filling our homes with Your peace, Your light, and Your presence, driving out all darkness and fear. For You have said no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling, Psalm 91:10. Lord, let Your light shine so brightly in us and through our homes that darkness has no place. Give parents and guardians wisdom and discernment to guard their children well and to use this night to show the love and truth of Christ. We trust You as our keeper and our shield, and we rest in Your faithful protection. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray without ceasing, to keep your home as a sanctuary of prayer and the Word, and to speak blessing and not fear over your family. If you choose to engage with those who come to your door, do so with the love of Christ, perhaps offering a kind word and a reflection of His light, remembering that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it, John 1:5. Keep your hearts at peace, for greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4.
