Humble Prayer Warrior
I don't know whether going back to the police about what my mother did to me in my childhood is right or not. I'm not feeling at peace about it. Please pray for me. In Jesus high name.

We hear the heaviness in your request and we lift you up together before the Lord, asking for His wisdom and His peace to guard your heart as you wrestle with what to do about the hurt you suffered in childhood at the hand of your mother.

We want you to know that God sees what was done to you, He does not minimize it, and He is near to you in this pain. Psalm 34:18 tells us Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. And Psalm 147:3 tells us He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. What happened to you as a child matters deeply to Him, for Jesus said in Matthew 18:6 that whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a huge millstone were hung around his neck and that he were sunk in the depths of the sea.

You are asking about going back to the police and whether it is right, and you share that you are not feeling at peace about it. That lack of peace is important to bring before the Lord. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We pray that God will give you that surpassing peace as you seek His will, not a peace that comes from simply avoiding a hard decision, but the settled peace that comes from walking in obedience and wisdom.

We also know that God has ordained authorities for justice and protection. Romans 13:4 says for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. Seeking justice through lawful authorities is not dishonoring to God, and it does not violate the command to honor your father and mother in Exodus 20:12, because honoring parents never means covering over sin or allowing abuse to continue unaddressed. At the same time, Scripture also teaches us about wisdom, timing, and counsel. James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. And Proverbs 15:22 says Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established.

We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord earnestly for wisdom, and to also seek wise, godly counsel as you discern this step. A trusted pastor, a mature Christian counselor, and perhaps a legal advocate who understands these sensitive cases can help you think through why you are considering going back to the police, what you hope would come from it, whether it may protect others, and what it may mean for your own healing. Isaiah 1:17 says Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. God cares both about justice and about your restoration.

We also want to gently speak about forgiveness, because many who have been hurt as children wrestle with this. Ephesians 4:32 says And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Forgiveness through Christ is commanded and it frees your heart from bitterness, but forgiveness does not mean what happened was okay, and it does not automatically remove earthly consequences for wrongdoing. You can forgive in Christ while still pursuing what is right and just.

We thank you for coming in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him we have access to the Father and it is only in His name we are saved and heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 reminds us There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in Jesus' name we bring this dear one before Your throne of grace. You know the details of what happened in childhood, every wound and every memory, and You have collected every tear. We ask You to pour out Your healing presence upon this broken heart. Lord, grant clear wisdom about whether to go back to the police. Quiet the confusion and anxiety, and let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Lead to godly counselors who will listen with compassion and speak truth, and give courage to take the next right step in obedience to You. Help to forgive as You have forgiven, while also seeking what is just and good. Protect from the enemy's lies of shame and condemnation, and remind this one that they are deeply loved, valued, and cherished as Your child. Bring restoration in Your perfect timing, and use even this pain for good as You promise in Romans 8:28. We ask all this in the mighty and healing name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.

We encourage you to keep drawing near to Jesus daily, to stay in His Word, to pray honestly about every fear and question, and to not walk through this decision alone. God will guide you step by step as you trust Him.

Thank you for trusting us with something so painful and personal. Wondering whether to go back to the police after what your mother did in childhood is a heavy decision, and it makes sense you do not feel at peace about it. There is no simple or quick way through this kind of question.

We want you to have steady, safe support while you discern next steps. It can help to talk through the options with one trusted, wise person who will not rush you, such as a counselor experienced in childhood abuse, a pastor, or a victim advocate in your area. They can listen to your story, help you understand what reporting would involve, and support you whatever you decide, alongside prayer. If you are carrying distress, anxiety or other difficult effects, please also consider reaching out to a healthcare professional or counselor for care.

We are praying for you and we will keep holding this before the Lord.

Father, we lift them to You in Jesus name. You see what was suffered in childhood and the confusion and pain that remains now. Grant wisdom, safety and gentle, trustworthy help around them. Bring healing, peace that comes from Your presence, and clear guidance for each step ahead. Amen.

Your burden has been heard, and the unrest you carry over these memories and this difficult decision is not hidden from the Lord. To have no peace about whether to go again to those who bear the sword for justice is itself a heavy trial, and it is right to bring it before God who gives wisdom liberally and upbraids not.

There is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ His Son, and that truth is spoken in the present tense. There is forgiveness now for every sinner who looks to Christ and trusts Him alone for salvation. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, not because our hearts have reasoned their way into quietness, but because Christ has borne our punishment and God will never require at our hands what Christ has honored in our stead. If you have looked to Him, hear His word to the palsied man who lay repenting and believing at His feet, Man, your sins are forgiven you. Believe it and go your way in peace. Do as Luther did when in dark distress and say, I believe in the forgiveness of sins for myself. That assurance does not make the wounds of childhood vanish in a moment, but it places you in the hands of the Great Physician who heals and pardons together, and who will work a perfect work in you.

That same Lord who forgives so freely also calls His people to copy His pattern in forgiving those who have trespassed against us. This forgiveness is not a feeble thing that cannot punish, nor a studied phrase with no heart in it. It is a hearty release of vengeance into God's hands, a forbearing spirit that desires the soul's good while leaving justice to Him who judges righteously. To forgive as Christ forgave does not mean that what was done was not sin, nor does it require you to pretend that no wound was made, and it does not by itself decide what is wise or lawful regarding the civil authorities whom God has ordained.

Peace, perfect peace, comes through believing, through simple trust in Christ. Joy and peace in believing are the fruit of faith, yet they are not always felt at once, and the absence of settled peace about a course of action is not a sign that you are forsaken. It is often the Lord's way of keeping you near to Him, that you may seek His will and do it, and so abide in the peace of God. Low thoughts of God create doubts of pardon and bondage, but high thoughts of Him beget hope and confidence.

Concerning whether to go back to the police, seek the Lord earnestly for wisdom and seek also the counsel of godly, wise and sober persons near you, a faithful pastor, a mature believer who knows you, and where needed, those who can advise you on what the law requires and what may protect others. Bring the matter openly before God, tell Him all, lay it in His presence, and ask Him to make your path plain, to preserve your going out and your coming in, and to keep you from the devices of the evil one. If conscience, duty to truth, or care for the safety of others presses upon you, that may be the Lord directing you toward speaking. If haste or fear presses you, that may be a call to wait upon Him a little longer until His will is clearer. In either case, let your aim be faithfulness to Christ, honesty before God and man, and love that seeks what is holy and good.

May the Lord grant you healing as well as pardon, and a consciousness of forgiveness that makes life not limp and purposeless but steadied in His keeping.

Let us pray together. O Father, with whom there is forgiveness that Thou mayest be feared, look upon this Thy child who carries sorrows from childhood and knows not which way to turn. Wash and cleanse through the blood of Jesus, and speak that word which sets free from every stain of guilt. Grant perfect peace to a troubled heart, not as the world gives, but as Christ gives. Give wisdom beyond our own, make the right path plain, and give courage to walk in it. Preserve from all evil, lead not into temptation, and deliver from the evil one. Gather this one in Jesus keeping and keep loved ones also in that same safe hand, until earths struggles cease and Thou callest to heavens perfect peace. In Jesus high name, Amen.

Thank you for trusting us with something so painful and personal. Not feeling at peace after carrying what happened in childhood is understandable, and it is right to bring this struggle before the Lord and to seek wisdom carefully.

We have prayed for you in the high name of Jesus, asking that God would draw near to you, bring healing to the wounds of the past, and give you clear guidance in this decision about whether to go back to the police.

The peace Jesus gives is not the same as simply avoiding trouble or keeping everything quiet on the outside. He said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, and this peace makes us stronger when we are at peace with Him. That peace remains and grows when we set our minds on heavenly things and pursue what is true, honorable and pure, and when we walk in a way that invites the God of peace to be with us. It is the mother of all good things and the foundation of joy, and it is different from a peace that only looks calm outwardly but leaves the heart unsettled.

Scripture also shows that agreement or keeping quiet is not always good. Even robbers can agree together, and a physician will sometimes remove what is diseased to preserve the health of the whole body. This does not mean we should seek conflict, but it does mean that true peace is not found by simply covering over what is harmful. At the same time, pursuing what is right should be done with great care, prayer and counsel, not alone and not in haste.

Because this decision involves deep hurt, questions of justice, and your own wellbeing, we encourage you not to carry it by yourself. Please consider talking soon with a trusted pastor and with a qualified Christian counselor who understands trauma, and if you are considering a report, it can also help to seek wise and confidential legal guidance to understand your options and what the process would involve. These people can listen, help you process what happened, and help you weigh what would be most honoring to God, most truthful, and most caring for your own healing and safety.

We are praying that God will give you wisdom beyond your own understanding, that He will guard your heart and mind in Christ, that He will bring people around you who can support you well, and that whether you sense a next step now or need more time to seek counsel, you will know His presence directing your affairs and keeping you in His peace. You are not forgotten, and God sees what was done and cares deeply for you as His child.

If you would like, please let us continue to pray with you and to point you toward pastoral and counseling support nearby. May the Lord grant you His peace, healing and clear direction as you seek Him. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Would you be able to pray that God would help me to remember the name of what happened to me in my childhood. It was some kind of conspiracy theory. I need to remember so that I can give it to the police.
