He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
There is a reason why the words love and charity were interchangeable in Jesus’ vocabulary. He was conveying to us that love is bestowed, not in word alone; but, also in deed. It was in deed, on Calvary, that He exhibited the greatest charity; leaving behind to us, the assignment of greater works: That we have love one for another. Jesus makes it clear that the love He desires for us to extend to others be exhibited through the compassion and charitable deeds that we do unto the least of these.
They missed Him because they were expecting someone clad in the trappings of wealth and royalty. Yet, Jesus was set before us in a borrowed bassinette, so to speak: a manger. He made His way to Calvary, to perform "the charitable deed," riding upon a borrowed donkey. He laid in a borrowed tomb, as His spirit descended into hell, in our place. If not for charity . . . Thank you FATHER GOD for those who were charitable to our Lord and Savior. Thank You JESUS for your unmatched charity towards us.

Jesus often describes himself in the likeness of the least of these, even as one who is not desired. Will we miss Him again?
