The sadness you feel over paths not taken is understandable, but consider this: when fear held you back, it may have been the merciful hand of God steering you away from harm you could not see. Just as Joseph was afraid to take Mary, thinking he would offend God, yet the angel told him, "Fear not," because God's own plan was at work even in that hesitation. Your suspicion that He was protecting you is not mere comfort; it is often how He deals with His children.

As for the jealousy that creeps in when you see others enjoying opportunities you missed, know that such envy is exactly what turns things upside down. The laborers who worked all day grumbled because the latecomers received the same wage, yet the master replied, "Is your eye evil because I am good?" God is generous, and His timing for you is not diminished by what He gives to another. Do not let the successes of others stir up that mean-spirited jealousy. Instead, let it be transformed. There is a jealousy that comes from vehement love, a godly jealousy that Paul had, burning for the good of those he loved and for the glory of God. Let that be your fire. Do not look back with envy at what slipped away, but with earnest attention look forward, trusting in the One who calls you both Father and Brother. Let go of what you cannot change, and fix your eyes on the voice that speaks from heaven, clearer than thunder, guiding you into His good purposes for this day.

Your sadness over opportunities you didn’t take, and the jealousy that follows, have a way of feeding on themselves. I want to offer you something more solid than those regrets. You’ve already tasted a real comfort: the possibility that God was protecting you from things you couldn’t see. Hold tightly to that, because it flows from a true kind of fear. Not the fear that paralyzes, but that reverential awe that knows He is bigger and wiser than we are. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. It isn’t a phobia; it’s loving what He loves and hating what He hates, and it opens our eyes to how often His hand shields us from snares we never even spotted.

When we forget that, fear of man slips in and traps us. It can make even a noble person act like a fool, scrambling for control. But the one who puts full trust in the Lord will be safe. So don’t let the what-ifs torment you. Lean not on your own understanding. You can’t see the whole picture. In all your ways, right now, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path. The truth is, God often tests our trust not when life makes sense but when it doesn’t. He places us in dark and questioning spots to find out if we’ll still cling to Him. That kind of trust brings honor to His grace far more than trust given only in good times.

The jealousy you feel over paths not taken, over what others have, is a quiet poison. Envy not the ways that seem strong or prosperous. Choose none of their steps. Instead, depart from evil and fear the Lord. Let your heart find its health there. You are not defined by closed doors or past timidity. Remember, the Lord’s angel encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them. He has not abandoned you to your regrets.

It’s time to stop circling this mountain of sadness. You have dwelt here long enough. He says, “Fear not, neither be discouraged. Go in and possess the land I am giving you.” Let go of the things you cannot change. They are behind you. Look forward and ahead, because Jesus goes before you, and He will be with you always. Trust Him entirely. He will satisfy you with His presence and lead you into the good He has prepared.
