Beloved of All
These days I just find myself so sad and jealous. Jealous of opportunities I didn’t take because I was scared and the only thing that comforts me is maybe God was protecting me from things I couldn’t see. Pray for me to let go of the things I can’t change and look forward and ahead.

We hear the heaviness in your heart, and we want you to know that your feelings are valid, sadness and regret can weigh deeply on the soul. But we also want to gently remind you that dwelling in what could have been can steal the joy of what God is preparing for you now. The Bible tells us in Philippians 3:13-14, "Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." God does not want you chained to the past, even if it was fear that held you back. He is the God of second chances, and His mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).

It is wise to consider that God may have indeed protected you from unseen harm, but we must also guard against using that as a crutch to avoid stepping out in faith now. Fear is not from God (2 Timothy 1:7), and if He is calling you to something, He will equip you. The enemy would love for you to remain stuck in regret, but we rebuke that spirit of discouragement in the name of Jesus. You are not defined by the opportunities you missed, you are defined by the One who holds your future.

Let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our dear brother/sister, lifting up their heart to You. Lord, You see the weight of regret and jealousy that has taken hold, and we ask that You would break its power. Help them to truly release the past into Your hands, trusting that You work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28). Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and replace their sorrow with hope. Father, reveal to them the path You have for their future, one filled with purpose and Your provision. Give them the courage to step out in faith when You call, knowing that You are with them. Heal their heart from comparison and envy, and let them see themselves through Your eyes. We declare that their best days are ahead, not behind, and we pray for a fresh infilling of Your Holy Spirit to guide them. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, especially in the Psalms, where David often poured out his heart before the Lord. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not alone in this. If fear has been a stronghold in your life, ask God to reveal its roots and replace it with His perfect love, which casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). The future He has for you is good, and we believe He is preparing something beautiful as you surrender your past to Him. Keep pressing forward, your story is not over.

We're so glad you shared this. The ache of missed chances and the jealousy that can follow are heavy, and many of us know that restless weight. You're not alone in it. The fact that you're already reaching for the thought, maybe God was protecting me from things I couldn't see, says something about the faith that's still working in you. We believe that instinct is worth holding onto. God's hand does sometimes close doors with a kindness we only understand much later, or not at all this side of heaven.

Still, knowing that doesn't automatically dissolve the sadness, and we don't want to rush past it. Letting go of what you can't change often comes in layers, not in a single moment. A small, concrete step can help: take a few quiet minutes to write down one or two things that opened up in your life because you stayed on another path, something you'd genuinely miss if that original door had swung open. It could be a relationship, a skill you built, a quieter season that shaped you. Naming the good that is actually here can begin to loosen the grip of the "what ifs."

And we'll pray with you toward that.

Lord Jesus, thank you for guarding our friend in ways we may never fully know. Please lift the sorrow that comes from looking back, and replace it with a growing trust in your careful leading. Give them the courage to lift their eyes to what's ahead, and the peace to rest in your timing. In your name, Amen.

It pierces the heart to hear of a soul weighed down with sorrow over roads not taken. Yet I must tell you plainly, the jealousy you feel for those missed opportunities is being squandered if it only eats at your own spirit. Do you not know that jealousy, like a flame, is never evil in itself? It can be a holy fire when it burns for God. Turn that sharp pang around, be jealous for His glory, jealous that no rival thought of what might have been should steal away your trust in Him. You say the only comfort you find is that perhaps God protected you from what you could not see. Do not whisper it as a mere “perhaps.” Settle this in your heart, the eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. What He withholds, He withholds in covenant wisdom. The steps you did not take may well have led to a pit your eyes could never detect. His providence is often a dark lantern, but every step of the path is ordered.

You ask for prayer to let go of the past and look forward. This is my prayer and my command to you in the name of the Lord: Forward! What have you to do with the ghost of departed years? The command of God is not to stand staring at the closed gate but to believe now, to strike the tent and march. To linger in the marshlands of regret is to doubt the Pillar of Cloud that leads you. If God’s presence is with you, what terror can there be in an unknown future? His way may be in the sea, and His footsteps may not be known, but it is a way of holiness and it ends in the promised land. The sin you must fear is unbelief, the sin that looks upon the graves of yesterday and refuses the manna of today. God does not ask you to finish the work of healing; He asks you to trust Him. You have no right to be forever questioning, “Am I His, or am I not?” if you have cast yourself upon Christ. To look at a missed earthly opportunity as though it were your chief good is to misrepresent God. Did He not give His Son? How shall He not with Him freely give you all things? Perhaps what you call loss was the kindest winnowing, blowing away the chaff to leave the solid wheat of dependence on Him.

You shall hold your peace, for the Lord shall fight for you. The future is not a barren wasteland to be feared; it is a land of corn and wine, supplied from a fountain whose Source is God All-Sufficient. Let this jealousy of yours be transformed. Be jealous for your faith, jealous to cast no longing, lingering look at the world’s broken cisterns. Be jealous for the honor of Christ upon you, that you may say, “He has done all things well.” Do not mess with the ‘what ifs’ and the ‘if onlys’. One look at the pierced hands which bought you will cure a thousand looks at the dust behind you. Go forward. Trust His blood for the sins of the past, His scepter for the appointments of the present, and His covenant for the joys of the future. He is not ashamed to be called your God, for He has prepared a city. Go forward.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
