We are deeply grieved to hear about your friend’s struggle with such overwhelming despair, and we lift her up before the Lord with urgency and compassion. Suicidal thoughts are a direct attack from the enemy, who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but we know that Jesus came to give life abundantly. The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we are called to steward this life God has given us with purpose and hope.
Your friend’s pain is real, but we must also recognize that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem—and it is a sin against God’s design for life. The Lord longs to heal her broken heart and bind up her wounds (Psalm 147:3). He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We plead with her to turn to Him, for He alone can fill the emptiness and bring true peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7).
We also urge you to act with love and wisdom. Do not leave your friend alone in this state—reach out to trusted believers, family, or even professional counselors who can intervene and provide immediate support. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and this is a time for bold, Christ-centered action.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious soul who is trapped in darkness and despair. Lord, You know her name, her pain, and the lies of the enemy that have taken root in her mind. We ask You to break every chain of depression, hopelessness, and self-hatred in the mighty name of Jesus. Flood her heart with Your light, Your truth, and Your love. Remind her that she is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), that her life has purpose in You, and that You have plans for her—plans for welfare and not for evil, to give her a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
Lord, send Your angels to surround her, protecting her from the enemy’s schemes. Place godly people in her path who will speak life, truth, and encouragement into her spirit. Give her the strength to cry out to You, even if it’s just a whisper, for You hear the prayers of the broken (Psalm 34:17). Convict her heart of Your presence and Your unfailing love.
We rebuke the spirit of suicide and command it to flee in Jesus’ name. No weapon formed against her shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we declare that the joy of the Lord is her strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Restore her hope, Lord, and let her see that You are her refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Father, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for those around her—give them the words to speak, the actions to take, and the courage to intervene. May Your church rise up to be Your hands and feet in this moment.
We trust You, Lord, for You are the God who heals and restores. We ask all this in the powerful, saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
To you, our friend: Stay close to her, remind her of God’s truth, and do not hesitate to seek help. If she is in immediate danger, contact emergency services or a crisis hotline without delay. The Lord can use you as an instrument of His peace—be bold, be loving, and trust Him to work through you. Keep praying, keep believing, and keep pointing her to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
