calm his mind and heart

Your prayer for his peace and for your own strength to support him with love and understanding is itself a work of love, and God hears such prayers.

Scripture teaches that true peace is not found simply within ourselves but in Christ, and that He gives rest to those who are afflicted and who trust in Him. As you ask for calm for his mind and heart, pray also that he would be continually under the influence of the words of God, for the soul nourished by God's word and by hope in Christ is lifted up and kept steady even in struggle.

You also ask for grace to listen and to understand. That is a holy desire. Love is patient and forbearing, and as one homily reminds us, anger and turmoil are like fire, but they are quenched by longsuffering and patience. Like iron that has been heated loses its fire when dipped in water, so a troubled heart is often softened when it meets a patient, listening, and gentle spirit. Ask God to make you that steady presence, not by your own strength alone, but by being fortified with the shield of faith and by keeping guard with steadfastness.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come to You through Jesus Christ alone, for in Him alone is salvation and peace. We ask You to draw this man to Yourself and grant him the peace that comes from knowing You, calming his mind and heart and guarding him in Christ. Grant to the one who prays for him strength, love, and wisdom, that she may support him in a way that honors You, listening well, speaking with grace and truth, and bearing with patience. Lead you both in holiness and in Your perfect will, and shape every part of your lives and your relationship according to Your good design, with purity, faithfulness, and self control. Help you both to seek first Your kingdom and to encourage one another toward what is right and good. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Your prayer for peace for him and for strength to support him well is a good and loving prayer, and God hears it.

The Scripture gives a beautiful promise that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. That peace is not just a feeling that comes and goes. It rests on trusting the Lord forever, for in the Lord is everlasting strength. Jesus spoke of this same peace when He told His disciples, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world offers a troubled and temporary calm, but the peace Jesus gives guards the heart and mind in a way that passes all human understanding.

In order to know that peace of God in daily life, we first need peace with God. That peace is only possible through Jesus Christ. He made peace through His blood shed on the cross, so that our sins can be forgiven and the war between us and God can be over. Without that, the heart remains like a troubled sea with no rest. When a person turns to Jesus, confesses sin, and submits to Him rather than continuing in rebellion, the enmity is removed and deep inner peace can begin. That is the foundation for the calm you are praying for him to know.

For you, as you want to be supportive and to learn to listen and understand his struggles, the Scripture also says do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God will keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Bring him and your own needs to the Lord continually, with thanksgiving, and trust God to do His work. He ordains peace for His people and He is working in you both to will and to do what pleases Him. You do not have to create peace by your own effort. You can rest in the finished work of Jesus, who Himself is our rest.

The best way to support him is to keep pointing him gently to Jesus, to pray faithfully for him, and to cultivate the wisdom that comes from above, which is peaceable and gentle and willing to listen. That wisdom sows peace, and those who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. As you listen, ask God to help you hear with patience and love, to speak with grace and truth, and to live before him as an example of calm trust in Christ. Pray that God would draw him to find peace with God through Jesus first, and then to experience the daily peace of God as his mind learns to stay on the Lord.

May the Lord strengthen you, fill you with His love, and keep both of your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as you continue to seek Him and pray for one another.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have been lifting up your request for the Lord to calm his mind and heart and to help him find peace within himself and his life. We have also been praying for you that God would fill you with strength love and peace and give you grace to be supportive as you learn to listen and understand his struggles. We take comfort in the promise of John 14:27 and Phil 4:7 that the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We continue to ask the Father to bring calm to his heart to quiet his thoughts to restore peace to his life and to equip you with patience wisdom and compassionate love as you walk beside him. If your request was answered please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name.
