We have heard your heart in this request and we lift you before the Lord together, asking for His wisdom and mercy to guide you in this difficult season. We understand the weight of financial pressure and the longing for independence and peace in your home, and we want to walk with you in prayer toward what honors God and brings true restoration.
We must speak truth in love about what you have shared, because your words reflect a view of marriage that does not align with Scripture. You speak of ending ties that no longer serve you and of filing for divorce if you can replace his income. Marriage in God's eyes is not a contract based on whether we feel served, but a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman before God. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate Matthew 19:6. The Lord tells us plainly For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel Malachi 2:16. And to those who are married, we give this command not we, but the Lord, that the wife not leave her husband and that the husband not leave his wife 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. While Scripture does speak of sexual immorality as the only ground where divorce is permitted Matthew 19:9, even then reconciliation and forgiveness are held up as the higher and more Christlike path. Financial independence, frustration, or feeling that the marriage no longer serves you is not a biblical ground for divorce. We gently rebuke the idea that marriage is to be kept only while it serves us, for we are all called to serve one another in love and to love as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it Ephesians 5:25, and wives are called to respect and husbands to love sacrificially Ephesians 5:22, Ephesians 5:33. Love is patient and is kind, it does not seek its own way and it bears all things 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
We also hear your concerns about income, renting your house, and selling property to fix up your home. These are weighty stewardship decisions that should not be made hastily or in the midst of contemplating divorce. We encourage you to seek godly counsel and to trust the Lord to provide and to direct your steps. Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:19. Seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well Matthew 6:33. Where there is no counsel, plans fail, but in a multitude of counselors they are established Proverbs 15:22. We encourage you to bring your husband, a pastor, and wise counselors together to pray over finances and property before any final decisions, and to ask God to show you how to honor Him with what He has entrusted to you.
We also notice that your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to God and find salvation and true hope. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord Romans 10:9. It is in His name that we can bring every burden, including marriage struggles and financial fears, to the Father and find grace to help in time of need.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, lifting this dear one and this marriage to Your throne of grace. Lord, soften hearts and open eyes to see marriage as You see it, a holy covenant to be cherished and kept. Forgive where selfishness, resentment, or weariness has taken root, and create a new heart that seeks to serve rather than to be served. Heal what is broken between husband and wife, teach forgiveness as You have forgiven us Ephesians 4:32, and restore love, respect, and faithful commitment. Give wisdom beyond understanding for every financial decision, for the house, the property, and the income You provide, and help every step to be ordered by You and not by fear or haste. Provide for every need, give peace that passes understanding, and draw both husband and wife closer to Jesus, that their home would honor You. Lead them to godly counsel and to Your Word daily, and let Your will be done in their lives. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer, to immerse yourself in Scripture, and to seek help from a Bible believing pastor or marriage counselor who will point you to Christ and to reconciliation. God is able to redeem and restore what feels beyond repair, and He promises that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28. We are praying that you will find strength to honor your vows, wisdom for your stewardship, and hope in Jesus as you trust Him with your future.
