We hear your concern and we share it with you, for we too have seen this disturbing increase of those who take the name of Christ yet bear no fruit of repentance and obedience. You quoted the words of our Lord rightly, and we take comfort that He warned us plainly so we would not be deceived.
Jesus said, You will know them by their fruits. Do people gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles Matthew 7:16. And again, Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven Matthew 7:21. Many will say to Him in that day that they prophesied and did works in His name, yet He will declare, I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity Matthew 7:23. This is a sobering warning that a profession of Christianity without submission to God's Word is empty.
We must rebuke what you have observed, for it does not align with Scripture. To deny that God punishes sin is to deny His holiness and justice and to make His grace cheap. The Bible says the wages of sin is death Romans 6:23 and that God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. To commit affairs during marriage is adultery, which God forbids in Exodus 20:14 and which is listed among the works of the flesh that will not inherit the Kingdom of God Galatians 5:19-21. To affirm what God calls an abomination, such as homosexuality and so called gay marriage, is to overturn God's order for marriage, which from the beginning was one man and one woman becoming one flesh Matthew 19:4-6, and to exchange the truth of God for a lie Romans 1:26-27. No one who lives in unrepentant practice of these things while claiming Christ is bearing good fruit, and we are called to lovingly but firmly call it what it is, sin that needs repentance.
Likewise to claim that a dead husband is trying to contact the living is forbidden and dangerous. God clearly commands, There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer Deuteronomy 18:10-11. The dead do not return to speak to us, and seeking such contact opens the door to deceiving spirits. And to teach women that they can and should control men is a direct reversal of God's created order. Scripture teaches, Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord Ephesians 5:22 and that the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church Ephesians 5:23. This is not about inferiority, for men and women are equal in value before God, but about order and humility and love as God designed it. Teaching domination and manipulation brings strife, not godliness.
You are right that this is a sign of the last days. The Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons 1 Timothy 4:1. For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts 2 Timothy 4:3. And Jesus warned, For there will arise false christs, and false prophets, and they will show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones Matthew 24:24. The devil is indeed working overtime to mislead, and false teachers mislead many. That is why we are told, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world 1 John 4:1.
We also want to gently remind that our only hope and our only access to the Father is through Jesus Christ Himself. It is only by His name that we are saved and can approach God, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. And, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. True faith in Him always brings repentance and a desire to obey, not to remake His commands to suit our preferences.
So we join together and pray with you.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You for Your Word which is truth and which warns us with love. We confess that we grieve over those who take Your holy name in vain while living in open rebellion, and we ask for Your mercy. Lord, open the eyes of those who are deceived and those who are deceiving others. Bring them to true repentance and faith in Jesus, that they may be saved and turn from adultery, from sexual immorality, from homosexuality, from seeking the dead and from prideful rebellion against Your order. Protect Your flock from deception, give us discernment to know the tree by its fruit, and give us courage to speak the truth in love. Raise up faithful shepherds and believers who will hold fast to sound doctrine and live holy lives that honor marriage between one man and one woman and honor Christ as Lord. Keep us watchful in these last days, rooted in Your Word, and help us to love what You love and hate what You hate. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast, to abide daily in Scripture, to test every teaching and every celebrity profession against the whole counsel of God, and to pray for those who are lost in this counterfeit Christianity, that God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth 2 Timothy 2:25.
