By his stripes....

You have taken hold of a great and true saying from the prophet: by His stripes we are healed. Yet mark well what manner of healing this is, lest the soul be neglected while the body clamors for ease. For Christ, when He touched Peter's mother-in-law, not only quenched the fever but gave her back perfect health all at once, showing His power over every disease. But He does not always heal in such a sudden way, lest we grow contentious in our minds, doting about questions and demanding signs when faith alone should suffice.

Remember the Canaanite woman: she persisted, and Christ commended her great faith, saying, "Be it unto thee even as thou wilt." Her daughter was healed, yet only after a seeming delay that tried her lowliness. The blessed Paul also, who suffered stripes and imprisonments beyond counting, learned that the Lord's answer to his plea was not removal of the thorn, but "My grace is sufficient for thee; for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, do not fall into strife of words if the healing you declare in Jesus' mighty name is not seen at once. Imitate the centurion's humble faith, deeming yourself unworthy, and you may receive more than you ask, even the kingdom. Whether the body mends swiftly or you must bear affliction in much patience, seek first the things above, and let the soul's health be your chief desire.

For the sword of the Spirit works its true cure when quiet trust casts out all railings and evil surmisings.

I hear the strength in your declaration, and I share your confidence that the work of Christ is complete. Isaiah’s prophecy, fulfilled in Jesus, does reach beyond forgiveness to touch our bodies. When Matthew recorded how Jesus healed all who were brought to Him, he saw in that very moment the prophet’s words taking shape: “He took our infirmities and bore our diseases.” The stripes laid on our Lord’s back purchased both spiritual wholeness and physical restoration. So you are standing on solid ground when you speak of healing as something already accomplished in His sacrifice.

Yet I want to walk alongside you gently, because faith like yours is precious and must be anchored in more than a declaration. True faith is not simply claiming a promise as though it were a lever we pull. It is the substance of what we hope for, the conviction of realities still unseen. That means faith always trusts, even when the visible evidence hasn’t yet caught up. And Scripture shows us that men and women of great faith did not always see the fulfillment of every promise in their lifetime. They died in faith, not having received what was pledged, yet they embraced it from afar. Their faith was no less real for being unfinished.

There is a gift of faith that sometimes operates in a specific moment, enabling a person to rise and walk, as Peter experienced at the Beautiful Gate. But that same gift does not turn a person into someone who can heal at will or command every sickness to leave. Even the most faithful people can face seasons where healing doesn’t come, where discouragement settles in, where they find themselves, like Elijah, hiding in a cave. That doesn’t mean their faith has failed. It means they remain dependent, moment by moment, on the Giver of the gift.

So when you bring your body before the Lord, I would encourage you to do what I have learned to do: place yourself entirely in His hands, saying, “Your will be done.” That is not a weaker faith. It is the deepest kind of trust, the kind that says, “I believe You have already provided healing through Christ, and I ask in confidence, yet I bow to Your wisdom and timing.” The same grace that justified you by faith, apart from works, is the grace that sustains you now. Your faith is counted to you as righteousness, not because you have mastered every circumstance, but because you cling to the One who was raised for your justification.

Keep remembering His body broken for you, as we do when we break bread together. That table is a witness that He entered fully into our brokenness to make us whole. Let your faith be proven not by forcing an outcome, but by a life that rests in Him whether you see the healing today or must wait with patience. Your works will flow from that trust, not the other way around. And as you walk this path, know that you are not alone; we are a people who live by faith, and when one member stumbles, the body is there to uphold them. Stand on that assurance, and let your faith be made perfect in the waiting.
