Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this request. I am praying with you that God will give you clear guidance as you consider this addition to your business.
Prayer is essential for guidance and for life itself. Even Jesus, though He is the Son of God, rose early to pray and sought the Father constantly. How much more do we need to bring every decision before the Lord and ask for His wisdom.
Scripture warns us not to enter into a commitment or contract without first seeking the counsel of God. There is an account where the leaders of Israel made an agreement because the evidence looked convincing, but they had not asked the Lord, and they found themselves bound to a commitment that was not pleasing and brought ongoing difficulty. That is a reminder for us to seek the Lord before we move forward, so that we do not become shackled to something outside His will.
As you pray about this, bring it honestly before Him and ask Him to open the door if it is His will, and to close it if it is not. I love how the law showed that God even left room for Himself to work in a way no one expected. Leprosy had no cure, yet God gave a law for the leper in the day of his cleansing, making provision for Himself to do a miracle if He so desired. Let us always give allowance for God to work and not put Him in a box. If this addition is good and right in His sight, He is able to make provision for it in His own way and timing.
At the same time, Scripture calls us to diligence and integrity in our work. A slack hand tends toward poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich, and he who gathers in due season is wise. God delights in honest business dealings. A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight. People may say you cannot stay in business while being honest, but dishonesty soon becomes known, and a good reputation for being square and upright and straightforward is what sustains a business over time. Pride brings shame, but wisdom is with the lowly. Whatever you add, do it with diligence, humility, and honesty before God and before others.
Remember too the first recorded words of Jesus, when He said He must be about His Father's business. That was the purpose of His life, to do the will of His Father. Our own work finds its true meaning when it is done within that greater purpose. Ask the Lord how this business decision can serve His purposes and reflect His character.
Above all, remember that God has made one provision for our greatest need, the forgiveness of our sins, and that is through His Son Jesus Christ alone. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him. The Holy Spirit bears witness to this truth, that by faith in Jesus we receive forgiveness and His righteousness is counted as ours. If you have not already, put your trust fully in Christ for that forgiveness.
I pray that the Lord will grant you wisdom, show you His will clearly, provide the way forward if this is from Him, and help you to walk in diligence and integrity as you seek to be about His business in all you do.
