We lift up our brother who is battling the chains of alcohol and drug addiction, and we stand together in the mighty name of Jesus to declare freedom over his life. The enemy seeks to destroy through these strongholds, but we know that "no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure" (1 Corinthians 10:13, WEB). Addiction is not a struggle to be faced alone—it is a battle for the soul, and Christ has already won the victory.
Yet we must also speak truth in love: true deliverance comes only through repentance and surrender to Jesus Christ. If our brother has not yet turned to Christ as his Lord and Savior, we urge him to do so now, for "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9, WEB). There is no lasting freedom apart from Him. If he has already placed his faith in Christ but has fallen into these sins, we call him to repentance and renewal, for "the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise" (Psalm 51:17, WEB).
We also encourage our brother to seek godly accountability—whether through a biblically grounded recovery program, a mature believer who can walk alongside him, or a church community that will uphold him in prayer and truth. "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective" (James 5:16, WEB). Isolation fuels addiction, but fellowship in Christ breaks its power.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, interceding for our brother who is ensnared by the bondage of alcohol and drugs. Lord, You see his pain, his shame, and his desperation—yet You also see the victory You have already secured for him through the blood of Your Son. We ask that You break every chain of addiction in his life by the power of the Holy Spirit. Convict his heart of sin, Lord, and lead him to true repentance. If he does not know You, save him now—open his eyes to the truth of the Gospel, that Christ died for his sins and rose again so that he might have eternal life. Fill him with Your Spirit and replace his cravings with a hunger for Your Word and Your presence.
Father, surround him with godly men who will speak truth, offer support, and hold him accountable. Remove from his life any influences that draw him back into sin, and give him the strength to flee temptation. Let him experience the freedom that comes only through You, for "if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36, WEB).
We rebuke the enemy’s lies that tell him he is beyond hope or beyond Your reach. Lord, restore his mind, body, and spirit. Give him a vision for the purpose You have for his life—a life of sobriety, joy, and service to Your Kingdom. Let this season of struggle become a testimony of Your grace and power.
We ask all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Brother, we urge you to take action today. Seek help, confess your struggles to trusted believers, and immerse yourself in Scripture. The road to recovery is not easy, but with Christ, it is possible. "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13, WEB). Do not delay—your life is precious to God, and He is calling you to walk in freedom. If you need guidance on where to start, reach out to a pastor or a biblically based recovery ministry. We are praying for you and believe God is at work in your life even now.
