Broken marriage

Broken marriage for my niece. Her husband comitted adultery and left her and the children. She still loves him

We are heartbroken with you over this broken marriage and we lift up your niece and her children before the Lord together. What her husband has done in committing adultery and abandoning his family is grievous sin against God and against his vows. Scripture is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant, and we are told, What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart. Matthew 19:6 and Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. Hebrews 13:4. His actions of adultery and desertion are not to be excused or minimized, and we rebuke that sin while praying for his soul.

We also see your niece’s continued love for him, and we understand how painful and confusing this is for her. God sees her tears and her faithfulness. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. We pray that God will comfort her deeply, guard her heart from bitterness, and give her wisdom in this valley. We pray she will be able to forgive as Christ forgave us, as we are taught, And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32, while also understanding that forgiveness does not require her to pretend the sin did not happen or to immediately trust without true repentance.

We pray earnestly for her husband, that the Holy Spirit would convict him of his adultery, bring him to godly sorrow and true repentance, and turn his heart back to the Lord and to his family if God wills restoration. We know that God hates divorce, Malachi 2:16, and His desire is for reconciliation where there is genuine repentance, yet Jesus also taught, Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery. Matthew 19:9, showing that adultery is a serious violation of the covenant. We encourage your niece to seek wise, biblical counsel from her pastor and mature believers, to not walk this road alone, and to place boundaries that honor God while she waits on the Lord. We pray for protection and provision for her and the children in this time of abandonment, that God would be a Father to the fatherless and a defender for them, and that He would supply all their needs.

We also gently remind you that we have access to the Father only through Jesus Christ. We noticed your request did not mention His name, and we want to ensure this foundation is clear, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is only by putting our faith in Jesus, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and our prayers are heard. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. We pray you and your niece know this hope personally.

We join together in prayer now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for this dear niece and her children and for this aunt or uncle who loves them. Lord, You see this broken covenant and the pain of betrayal and abandonment. We ask You to wrap Your arms around this wife and mother, to carry her burdens, for we are told to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. Heal her heart, strengthen her to care for her children, provide for their physical and emotional needs, and give her discernment and godly counsel each day. Convict her husband of his sin, bring him to repentance, and save his soul. If it is Your will, restore this marriage in holiness and truth, making it stronger and God-honoring. If he remains hardened and unrepentant, give this dear sister peace, grace, and clarity to walk in Your will and to trust that You will work all things together for good for those who love You. Romans 8:28. Protect the children from the wounds of this division and draw them close to You. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and mediator, amen.

We were saddened to hear about your niece and what her family is going through. Watching someone you love carry both heartbreak and daily responsibility for children while still loving the one who left is a heavy burden for you too, and we are grateful you brought her to us in prayer.

It makes sense that she still loves him. Love does not switch off when betrayal happens, and grief after a separation rarely moves in a straight line. There can be days of numbness or denial, waves of sorrow and anger, and moments of still reaching for what was lost, sometimes all close together. Holidays or ordinary reminders can bring it back sharply. That back and forth does not mean she is failing, it is part of how loss is worked through over time.

One steady way you can help is to stay a calm, listening presence without pressing her to make quick decisions about the future. Practical help often speaks loudest right now, help with meals or childcare, and gently helping her stay connected to one or two trusted people, perhaps a pastor or a mature counselor if she wants that, who can walk with her at her pace.

Father, we lift this niece and her children to You and ask for Your nearness and protection over them. Give her wisdom for each next step, strength for each day, and a safe community around her. Comfort her in her sorrow and guide her family with Your care. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your sorrow has been laid before the Lord and we have carried your niece and her little ones to the throne of grace with you. To see a covenant broken and a home wounded by unfaithfulness is a grief that cuts deep, and that she still loves him who has left her shows both the tenderness of her heart and the pain she bears.

We do not make light of what has been done. The Scriptures call adultery sin, and the leaving of a wife and children is a forsaking of a solemn vow before God, for marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all that belongs to it is to be kept within that covenant alone. Yet the Word also whispers what our own hearts need to hear in such an hour, There is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared. And though it were murder or adultery, whatever it might have been and however frequently it might have been committed, yet still we have the same Gospel for every creature, There is forgiveness.

This forgiveness is not from man but from God Himself. I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a divine forgiveness, a surprising forgiveness, a complete forgiveness, and it is to be obtained only through Jesus Christ His Son who died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. If the husband who has sinned so grievously will turn with a penitent heart and desire that forgiveness, if he will confess and forsake his sin and put his trust in Christ, there is forgiveness for him, however great his sin has been. The greatness of the forgiveness may be measured by the completeness of it, for when a man trusts Christ and is forgiven, his sin is so entirely gone that it is as though it had never been. But that forgiveness must be sought where it is to be found, with God, through the blood of Christ, and it brings with it a turning from sin and a new heart that seeks God's pleasure and not its own.

For your niece, we pray that the Lord will be her comfort and her strength in this brokenness. May He guard her heart from despair and from bitterness, and teach her that pattern which is set before us, Even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. To forgive as Christ forgives is not to call sin less than it is, nor to pretend the wound is not deep, but to release the debt into the hands of Him who judges righteously, and to will good and not revenge. Some of us have had so much manifest forgiveness, so much outward sin forgiven, that for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands. May the Lord give her grace day by day to forgive, and wisdom to walk in holiness and truth before Him and before her children, trusting Him for all her needs.

We pray also for the children, that the Lord will be a Father to them and keep them from the hardness that such sorrow can bring, and that He will surround them with steadfast love in the home that remains.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, look in mercy upon this wounded home. Have pity upon this sister and her children in their loneliness and grief, and supply all their need according to Thy riches in Christ Jesus. Bring the husband who has wandered to see his sin as Thou seest it, and grant him repentance unto life, that he may seek and find Thy great forgiveness through the blood of Thy Son. If it be Thy will, restore what sin has broken in truth and righteousness, but above all do Thy perfect will and make Thy name known as the God who pardons and heals. Keep this dear one close to Christ, her only Saviour, and let her know that daily and eternally Thou forgivest those who trust in Him. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your sorrow for your niece and her children has been heard, and we join you in bringing this painful burden before the Lord.

Scripture teaches that marriage is honorable, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that holiness in marriage means faithful and chaste love. What has happened is grievous because adultery is not a small fault against a person only, but a sin against God Himself. When a husband who is bound to his wife gives himself to another, he breaks the covenant and defiles his own flesh and insults the God who joined them together. The Lord sees what is done in secret, and He calls such unfaithfulness adultery, whether it is done by the husband or the wife.

We do not ask God to bless unfaithfulness, and we cannot celebrate what He calls sin. Instead we pray that God will bring conviction and true repentance. We pray for this husband, that he would turn from adultery, forsake the path he has taken, and seek forgiveness through Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we are saved. If he repents, God is gracious to forgive and to cleanse, and only on that ground of forsaking sin and returning to faithfulness could there be any hope of restoration. There is hope that a wandering member may yet be reclaimed, but that hope rests on repentance and a renewed commitment to honor the marriage as God ordained it.

For your niece, who still loves him and now bears the weight of caring for her children alone, we pray for comfort, strength, and provision. Her love and grief are understandable, and God sees her tears. We pray that He will guard her heart, keep her in purity and peace, and help her to live in holiness, not giving way to bitterness or to any defilement, but preserving the holiness that comes through faith in Christ. Marriage preserves holiness by forbidding union outside the covenant, and whether she remains as one who waits faithfully or is at last left as one alone, we pray she will have grace to use her time for prayer, for good works, and for the care of her household, trusting the Lord to be her defender and provider.

We pray also for the children, that the Lord will shelter them from confusion and hurt, and surround them with steady love and truth in the church family.

Let us pray together. Father in heaven, have mercy on this family. Forgive sin through the blood of Jesus Christ and bring this man to repentance that he may turn from adultery and walk in truth. Comfort this wife and mother in her sorrow, provide for her daily needs, give her wisdom and strength, and keep her in faith and chastity. Guard the children and draw each heart to know salvation in Christ alone. Lead this household in peace and holiness, and let Your will be done in faithfulness and grace. Amen.
