We are heartbroken with you over this broken marriage and we lift up your niece and her children before the Lord together. What her husband has done in committing adultery and abandoning his family is grievous sin against God and against his vows. Scripture is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant, and we are told, What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart. Matthew 19:6 and Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. Hebrews 13:4. His actions of adultery and desertion are not to be excused or minimized, and we rebuke that sin while praying for his soul.
We also see your niece’s continued love for him, and we understand how painful and confusing this is for her. God sees her tears and her faithfulness. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. We pray that God will comfort her deeply, guard her heart from bitterness, and give her wisdom in this valley. We pray she will be able to forgive as Christ forgave us, as we are taught, And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32, while also understanding that forgiveness does not require her to pretend the sin did not happen or to immediately trust without true repentance.
We pray earnestly for her husband, that the Holy Spirit would convict him of his adultery, bring him to godly sorrow and true repentance, and turn his heart back to the Lord and to his family if God wills restoration. We know that God hates divorce, Malachi 2:16, and His desire is for reconciliation where there is genuine repentance, yet Jesus also taught, Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery. Matthew 19:9, showing that adultery is a serious violation of the covenant. We encourage your niece to seek wise, biblical counsel from her pastor and mature believers, to not walk this road alone, and to place boundaries that honor God while she waits on the Lord. We pray for protection and provision for her and the children in this time of abandonment, that God would be a Father to the fatherless and a defender for them, and that He would supply all their needs.
We also gently remind you that we have access to the Father only through Jesus Christ. We noticed your request did not mention His name, and we want to ensure this foundation is clear, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is only by putting our faith in Jesus, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and our prayers are heard. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. We pray you and your niece know this hope personally.
We join together in prayer now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for this dear niece and her children and for this aunt or uncle who loves them. Lord, You see this broken covenant and the pain of betrayal and abandonment. We ask You to wrap Your arms around this wife and mother, to carry her burdens, for we are told to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. Heal her heart, strengthen her to care for her children, provide for their physical and emotional needs, and give her discernment and godly counsel each day. Convict her husband of his sin, bring him to repentance, and save his soul. If it is Your will, restore this marriage in holiness and truth, making it stronger and God-honoring. If he remains hardened and unrepentant, give this dear sister peace, grace, and clarity to walk in Your will and to trust that You will work all things together for good for those who love You. Romans 8:28. Protect the children from the wounds of this division and draw them close to You. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and mediator, amen.
