We hear your cry for freedom and we join with you in seeking the Lord for complete healing and deliverance, for God does not want you bound by confusion, manipulation, or lingering emotional ties. Your desire to be free is good and pleasing to Him, for He desires truth and wholeness in our innermost being.
A trauma bond is a deep emotional attachment formed through cycles of hurt and affection, and it can feel like a chain that keeps drawing the heart back even when the mind knows it is not healthy. The Lord wants to break every unhealthy soul tie and renew your mind and heart. We take comfort that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3 and that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. He also promises if therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed John 8:36.
We want to gently address that if this past relationship involved sexual intimacy outside of marriage, that is fornication before God and it creates a powerful soul tie that makes breaking free even harder. Scripture says flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. If that has been part of this bond, we encourage you to bring it to the Lord in repentance, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. God’s forgiveness is complete and He will help you walk in purity going forward. We also believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and any courtship should be with a fellow believer in Christ with the goal of godly marriage. We pray that if God wills a future marriage for you, it will be with a godly spouse who honors Him and loves you as Christ loves the church, and not a return to what has wounded you.
We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9.
We rebuke the enemy’s hold over your emotions and thoughts, and we pray for the breaking of every ungodly tie and lie that keeps you feeling attached to your ex. We bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5. We encourage you to guard your heart, to set firm boundaries including limiting or cutting contact if needed, to renew your mind daily in the Word, to stay rooted in a Bible believing church, and to seek trusted pastoral or godly counsel for support. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2. Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you, and allow His peace which surpasses all understanding to guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7.
We pray together with you.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is hurting and longing to be free. Lord, You see the emotional turmoil, the lingering feelings, the ache of the trauma bond, and we ask You to break every chain in Jesus name. Wash away guilt and shame, forgive any sin, heal the wounds of manipulation and attachment, and cleanse the heart. Fill every empty place with Your love and peace. Help her to take every thought captive, to forgive as You have forgiven us Ephesians 4:32, and to release this ex fully into Your hands without returning. Renew her mind, restore her joy, and strengthen her to walk in obedience and purity. Let her know she is not alone, for You have said do not be afraid, for I am with you Isaiah 41:10. Lead her into wholeness and, in Your perfect timing, if it is Your will, prepare her for a godly marriage that honors You. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to keep seeking Him daily, to speak Scripture over your emotions when they rise, and to trust that God will faithfully complete the healing He has begun.
