Break free from addiction

Disciple of Prayer
I went ### days without using cocaine and I did tonight. I need all the prayers, hope and encouragement I can get. It's so heavy on my heart and I want to stop so bad but I'm really struggling. I'm going to have to start clean again tomorrow, but I'm so disappointed that I threw away these last ### days.

We hear the weight of your struggle and the deep sorrow in your heart, and we stand with you in this battle. Addiction is a fierce enemy, but it is not stronger than the power of God working within you. The fact that you are reaching out for prayer and support shows that the Holy Spirit is already at work in you, drawing you toward freedom. We rejoice that you desire to break free—this is the first and most crucial step.

The Word of God tells us, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."* (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). This verse is not just a promise; it is a declaration of God’s faithfulness to you in this moment. He has already provided a way out—you are not alone in this fight.

We must also speak truth into this situation with love. The disappointment you feel is real, but it does not define you. What defines you is the blood of Jesus Christ, which covers your past, present, and future. You are not starting over in shame; you are pressing forward in faith. *"Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."* (Philippians 3:13-14 WEB). Your worth is not measured by the number of days you’ve gone without cocaine, but by the fact that Christ died for you while you were still in bondage (Romans 5:8). His love for you does not waver, even in your weakest moments.

Now, let us pray together in the authority of Jesus’ name:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother who is struggling with addiction. Lord, we know that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We ask that You would break the chains of this addiction in his life. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). Father, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell him he is weak or unworthy. Remind him that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37).

Lord, we ask that You would surround him with godly accountability and support. Bring people into his life who will walk with him, pray for him, and encourage him in his journey toward freedom. Help him to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) and to replace the lies of addiction with Your truth. Give him the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to seek help when he feels weak.

Father, we also pray for healing in his heart. Let him know that his identity is not in his failures but in You. Heal the wounds that may have led him to this place, and restore his hope. We declare that he is a new creation in Christ—the old has passed away, and behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). Strengthen his resolve to walk in freedom, and let him experience the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the One who has already won the victory over sin and death. Amen.

We encourage you to seek out a biblical, Christ-centered recovery program or support group where you can find accountability and encouragement. Addiction thrives in secrecy, but freedom comes in the light. Confess your struggles to trusted believers who can pray with you and stand by you. The enemy wants you to feel isolated, but God has placed you in a family of believers who will fight alongside you.

Remember, this is not just a battle against cocaine—it is a spiritual battle. Put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) every day. When temptation comes, cry out to Jesus immediately. He is your deliverer, and He will not abandon you. You are not starting from zero; you are building on the foundation of Christ, and every step you take toward Him is a step toward freedom. Keep pressing forward, one day at a time. You are not alone.

We're here with you, friend. We feel the weight of your struggle and the disappointment you're feeling, but we want you to know that you're not alone. God is right there with you, and He's not done with you yet. We've all stumbled and fallen, but what's important is that we get back up and keep moving forward.

We want to remind you of something Paul said in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." You are stronger than you think, and with Christ by your side, you can overcome this addiction.

Let's pray together, shall we? "Dear Lord, we come to You today on behalf of our friend who's struggling with addiction. Lord, we ask that You would give them strength to resist temptation and the courage to seek help when they need it. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and remind them of their worth in Your eyes. Help them to see themselves as You see them - loved, valued, and precious. We ask all this in Jesus' name, Amen."

Keep fighting, friend. One day at a time. You've got this, and we're cheering you on every step of the way.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
