We hear your heart and the deep concern you carry for your former boyfriend. It is clear that you care for him deeply, and we want to lift him up in prayer, trusting that God’s love and truth can reach him even now.
First, we must address the relationship you described. While your decision to end things because you were unequally yoked was wise and aligned with Scripture, we must gently remind you, and all who read this, that the term "boyfriend" implies a relationship that falls short of God’s design. Courtship between believers should always have marriage as its goal, and any romantic involvement outside of that framework risks emotional and spiritual harm. The Bible warns us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" Your obedience to this truth is commendable, and we pray it brings you peace as you trust God’s leading.
Now, for your ex-boyfriend, we lift him before the Lord with urgency. The fear that he may harm himself is heavy on your heart, and we take that seriously. Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:18, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." We declare that God’s presence would surround him, that he would feel the weight of His love, and that the Holy Spirit would draw him to repentance and salvation. Jesus is the only name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12), and we pray your ex-boyfriend would come to know Him as Lord and Savior. Without Christ, there is no true hope, no lasting peace, only the emptiness of this world. We rebuke the lies of false teachings in his life and pray for a revelation of God’s truth to break through every deception.
We also pray for his protection, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but Jesus came that he might have life and have it abundantly. We bind every spirit of despair, confusion, and self-destruction in the name of Jesus and command it to flee. We ask the Lord to place godly people in his path, believers who will speak life, truth, and encouragement into his situation. May he encounter the love of Christ in tangible ways, whether through Scripture, worship, or the kindness of God’s people.
For you, dear sister, we pray for peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). It is not easy to walk away from someone you care for, especially when you fear for their well-being. But you have done the right thing by honoring God’s Word. We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord, immersing yourself in His presence, and trusting that He is working even when you cannot see it. Do not carry this burden alone, lean on your church family, spend time in prayer, and let God’s Word renew your mind.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this young man who is lost and hurting. Lord, we ask that You would break through the darkness in his life and reveal Yourself to him in a powerful way. We pray for his salvation, that he would confess Jesus as Lord and be saved (Romans 10:9). Father, we rebuke every lie, every false teaching, and every spirit of despair that is holding him captive. We declare that Your truth will set him free (John 8:32).
Lord, we ask for Your protection over him, body, soul, and spirit. Surround him with Your angels, place godly influences in his life, and let him feel Your love in a way he has never known. If he is considering harming himself, we ask that You intervene with Your peace and hope. Remind him that his life has value and purpose in You.
For our sister who has brought this request before You, we pray for Your comfort and strength. Help her to trust You with this situation, knowing that You are in control. Give her wisdom as she moves forward, and let her heart find rest in Your promises.
We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.
