Good and Faithful Servant
I recently broke up with my boyfriend due to us being unequally yoked. Although I miss talking to him desperately, I decided not to reach out so much after the breakup because I think it will make it harder for him to move on. But I did still want to reach out every now and then so that he knows I care for him and am not just leaving him without ever talking again. Please pray I will have wisdom in doing that. Thank you.

We hear your heart in this situation, and we understand the tension between wanting to show care and needing to honor the boundaries that come with being unequally yoked. The Bible is clear that believers are not to be bound together with unbelievers in close relationships, especially marriage, as it creates division in our walk with the Lord. "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). Your decision to step back was wise and aligned with God’s Word, even though it is painful.

It is natural to miss the companionship and conversation, but we must remember that our ultimate fulfillment comes from Christ, not from human relationships. "For my determined boundary is within you, and I will bless those who bless you" (Psalm 132:13-14). The Lord is your provider, and He will fill the void in ways that honor Him. While it is kind of you to want to show care, we must also consider whether reaching out occasionally will truly serve his best interest or yours. Prolonged contact can sometimes hinder healing and moving forward for both parties. "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven... a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing" (Ecclesiastes 3:1,5).

We encourage you to seek the Lord’s wisdom in this matter, asking Him to guide your steps and guard your heart. If you do feel led to reach out, let it be with clear boundaries and a heart that is fully surrendered to God’s will, not your emotions. Pray for his salvation and trust that God is working in his life, even if you are not the one to witness it.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this sister who is seeking Your wisdom and strength. Lord, You know the ache in her heart, the longing for companionship, and the desire to do what is right in Your eyes. We ask that You would fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Give her clarity, Father, as she navigates this season of separation. Help her to trust in Your timing and Your plans for her life, knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28).

Lord, we pray for her former boyfriend, that You would draw him to Yourself. Soften his heart to receive the truth of Your Word and the salvation that comes only through Jesus Christ. May he come to know You as his Lord and Savior, and may he find his identity and purpose in You alone. Father, if it is Your will for them to be reunited in the future, let it be under the covering of Your blessing, with both of them walking in faith and obedience to You.

We rebuke any spirit of loneliness or longing that would seek to pull her away from Your presence. Remind her, Lord, that You are her ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Strengthen her resolve to honor You in all her relationships, and give her the courage to set boundaries that reflect Your truth. Surround her with godly friends and mentors who will encourage her in her faith and hold her accountable.

Father, we also pray for the future spouse You have prepared for her. Prepare her heart to receive him in Your perfect timing. May their union be a reflection of Christ and the Church, built on a foundation of faith, love, and mutual submission to You. Help her to wait patiently, trusting that Your plans for her are good.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, through whom we have access to Your throne of grace. Amen.

We hear the ache in your words, that gnawing pull to stay connected even when you know stepping back is the loving choice. We so respect the clarity you had to end a relationship that wasn't built on shared faith, and we see the tenderness in wanting him to know he's not abandoned. That balance you're seeking is delicate, and your request for wisdom is right at the heart of the matter.

Sometimes the most caring thing we can do for someone we've let go is to release them fully into God's hands, even when it leaves us with an unfinished ache. Reaching out "every now and then", even with kind intent, can easily tangle the healing for both of you. It may stir hope where you know no future exists, or pull you back into a deep emotional place you’re trying to leave. Wisdom might look like a longer, unbroken silence, not as cruelty, but as a clear, clean boundary that helps him move forward. If you do contact him, perhaps a single, brief, final message that says plainly you care about him as a person, you’re praying for him, and you’re giving him space, could set both of you free to heal.

We also want to honor the loneliness you're carrying. You walked away from daily companionship for the sake of honoring God, and that deserves to be grieved. Let yourself feel the loss without rushing to numb it through messages. Bring that desperate missing to the Lord, who stays close to the brokenhearted. Write out what you’d want to say in a journal, pour it out in prayer, or share it with a trusted friend who can stand with you during the quiet.

Pray with us:

Father, thank you for giving our sister the courage to make a hard but obedient choice. Please meet her with your nearness right now, and fill the empty space with your presence and peace. Grant her the precise wisdom she needs to know when, or if, to reach out, and what to say. Guard her from acting out of mere loneliness, and help her entrust this man completely to your faithful care. Heal both hearts, and lead each of them deeper into your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

That first loss will be vastly less than the after-losses you will incur by seeking to avoid it. We set our minds on getting this and that, and then blame our Master because we have a heavy burden on our backs. He meant that we should have a heavy burden if we would make one of our own! You miss him desperately; but as the hart pants after the water brooks, so does our spirit cry out for God, even the living God, and unless we have His Presence, our soul refuses to be comforted.

What is it, but the Presence of God that makes His people holy? Come out boldly and say, "I am on the Lord's side." Do not attempt to go sneaking to Heaven along some back lane. Do what you believe to be right, and always hold it for a maxim. After all, the way to be most renowned among men is to have the strange singularity of being a downright honest man.

If we begin aright, we go on aright. And if we finish aright we finish with "Christ is All." Cast all you have on Him, and all you have not, too; your cares, your sorrows, your present, your past, your future, take You and manage all. The Lord will break the bars of your yoke and you shall know that He is God. Out of Egypt have I called My son; come you out and be separate.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You did well to break off this unequal yoke, for the wisdom that is from above teaches us that light has no fellowship with darkness. The ache of missing his voice is a sharp thorn, but it is the wound of a surgeon's knife, not the sting of a viper. God has opened your eyes to the peril of yoking yourself to one who does not share the fear of the Lord, and in this you have already shown a wisdom that the world counts foolishness.

But now you stand at a crossing. You wish to reach out now and then, thinking it springs from compassion, lest he feel utterly abandoned. Yet examine this desire under the lamp of Scripture. For what is the purpose of such contact? The world calls it kindness, but the wisdom hidden in a mystery, which God foreordained unto our glory, bids us ask: will this steady his soul or stir up vain longings? When the flesh craves a thing, it dresses itself in the robes of charity, yet often it is but our own distress that seeks comfort in his voice. The tempter is subtle; he will call a snare a solace.

Remember that to care for his soul is a far greater work than to soothe his passing loneliness. If you truly wish to do him good, then do not keep his wound half-open with the salt of occasional words. The physician, when he has cut away the corrupt flesh, does not daily dabble the wound with honeyed water that delays the healing. He binds it and lets it close, though the patient cries out. What seems harsh is often the purest mercy, for it leads to life. Your silence now may speak more loudly of the gospel than any lingering conversation. Let your absence teach him what cannot be said: that to follow Christ is to count all other bonds as loss for the excellency of His knowledge.

Pray then for a wisdom not of this world, a wisdom that perceives the end from the beginning. Ask the Lord for strength to love him enough to let him go entirely into the hands of God, who alone can save. And do not think this means you have ceased to care. The saints have always counted it a greater charity to deny the flesh for the sake of the spirit. If you fast from him now, it is a fast offered to the Lord, and your prayer for his soul will rise more pure than any familiar word could ever be.

I will pray that you may have this holy resolution, and also that your own heart may be healed and taught to find its all in Christ. The loneliness you feel is a school for the soul; let it drive you deeper into the fellowship of the Spirit, where no earthly voice is needed. Heaven is making you a vessel of His own wisdom, which men deem foolish but which alone profits unto eternal life.

I can hear the ache in your words, and I want to honor the courage you showed in making a painful but right decision. Breaking a bond because of an unequal spiritual yoke is hard. It presses into the very shape of your heart, and it straightens out the things that might otherwise remain crooked if left unchallenged. You felt the weight of that Scripture, and you chose to believe that the dice are not loaded in your favor when you go against the Word of God. That took real faith.

Now, in the aftermath, you are facing that urge to keep reaching out, to prove your care, to soothe the silence. That instinct feels like compassion, but I want you to test it against a different kind of wisdom. The world’s wisdom says that maintaining a gentle connection is the kindest path, but the wisdom that comes from above produces a harvest far different. It leads to purity, not a lingering tie that keeps a wound from closing. You said yourself that pulling back helps him move on. That is a true and painful insight. To go back on it, even occasionally, would be to live against the truth you already know. The desire to check in may sound like love, but it can become a subtle snare, an unequal yoke of a different shape, one where you become yoked to the need to manage his feelings or his perception of you.

There is a wisdom that is better than rubies, and with all your getting, you are asking for understanding. Here is where the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom, gives you a hard but life-giving answer. True wisdom does not lead to envying and striving against the Spirit’s direction; it does not create a storm of confusion in the heart or keep a soul bailing out water. To continue reaching out is to follow the earthly, sensual wisdom that cannot see why such a clean break is needed. It believes you can start with your own compassion and reach God’s best outcome on your terms. But the wisdom of God starts from above and reaches down to you. It knows that you cannot go against the Word and win. You cannot hold onto a pittance of your own plan while reaching for God’s perfect peace.

So what does wisdom look like here? It looks like trusting the God who sees all things to be the one who brings comfort and care to that young man’s heart. You are not the steward of his moving on; Christ is. Your assignment is to walk uprightly with the Lord who gives wisdom, and he has a buckler for you in this vulnerable time. Lay this desperate, lonely ache before him, but let the silence stand. In that silence, God will pour out his Spirit of wisdom upon you. He will make known his words to you, not as a collection of facts, but as a path to walk on. The path of true wisdom leads to a pure life, to peace, and to a heart that finds its fullness in Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures you are looking for right now. Your care for him is real, but the most loving thing you can do is to entrust him completely to the one whose wisdom and strength are endless, and to step fully into the life of wisdom you have chosen.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this tender and challenging season. It takes great strength and wisdom to honor both your heart and your convictions, especially when the pain of separation feels so heavy. We’ve been lifting you up before the Lord, asking Him to grant you discernment in each step—whether to reach out or to wait, to speak or to remain silent—so that your actions reflect His love and truth.

We’re continuing to pray that God would fill the spaces in your heart where loneliness and longing reside, replacing them with His perfect peace. May He remind you daily of your worth in Him and give you the courage to trust His timing, even when the path ahead feels unclear. If the Lord has already begun to answer these prayers—whether through moments of clarity, unexpected comfort, or even the grace to release this relationship into His hands—we would love to hear how He is working. Your praise report could be a blessing to others walking a similar road.

If the ache remains and the questions still linger, please know we’re not finished praying. We would be honored to lift this burden with you again, asking the Father to guide your words, your heart, and even the heart of your former boyfriend, if it aligns with His will. Until then, we’ll keep asking the Holy Spirit to surround you with His presence, to steady you when the temptation to reach out feels overwhelming, and to help you rest in the knowledge that He is near.

May the Lord bless you with His wisdom, His peace, and the assurance that you are deeply loved by Him. We pray all these things in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus. Amen.
