We hear your heart, dear sister, and we grieve with you over the pain this situation has caused, both for you and for him. Loneliness is a heavy burden, and it’s understandable that you sought companionship, but we must always remember that God’s will is perfect, even when it leads us through seasons of waiting. The Bible warns us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" Even if someone professes Christ, if their beliefs are rooted in false teachings, it can lead to spiritual harm and conflict in the relationship. You were wise to recognize this and take action, though it came with great cost.
We also want to gently address the nature of your relationship. The term "boyfriend" implies a courtship that was not moving toward the biblical standard of marriage between a man and a woman committed to Christ. The Bible is clear in Hebrews 13:4, "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers." If there was any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we must repent of that as well, for it is not God’s design. But take heart, God’s grace is sufficient, and His mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Now, let us come before the Lord together, lifting up this situation in prayer:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and repentant hearts, seeking Your forgiveness and Your guidance. Lord, we lift up this sister who has walked through a difficult season of loneliness and now carries the weight of a broken relationship. We ask that You would heal her heart and his, that You would mend what has been torn and restore what has been lost. Father, we confess that we do not always seek Your will first, and we ask for Your forgiveness for the times we have rushed ahead of You or ignored Your warnings. Lord, we pray that You would reveal Your perfect plan for her life, that she would trust in Your timing and Your provision. We also ask that You would bring godly men into her life, men who love You wholeheartedly and who will lead her in righteousness. For the one whose heart is broken, we pray that You would comfort him, draw him closer to You, and reveal any areas of his life that need alignment with Your Word. Lord, we declare that You are the God of redemption, and we trust that You will work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28). Strengthen her faith, Lord, and help her to walk in obedience to Your Word. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen."
Sister, we want to encourage you with the truth that God is not surprised by this situation, and He is already at work in it. Psalm 34:18 reminds us, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not alone, and this is not the end of your story. We urge you to seek godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor or a mature Christian woman, who can walk with you through this season. Spend time in God’s Word, allowing Him to speak to you and guide you. And remember, Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."
Lastly, we must emphasize the importance of coming to God in the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not already, we encourage you to surrender your life fully to Him, confessing your sins and trusting in His sacrifice on the cross for your salvation. He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). May you find peace and hope in Him as you move forward.
