We hear your heart and the pain of betrayal, both the actual wound and the shadow of doubt that lingers. The Lord sees every tear and every question mark that has taken root in your spirit. You were right to end a relationship that was built on false teachings, for God’s Word warns us, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). Even if he professed faith, his actions and beliefs revealed a heart not fully surrendered to Christ. That alone is reason enough to walk away, for a house divided against itself cannot stand (Mark 3:25).
The red flags you noticed regarding his interactions with coworkers are not to be dismissed. The Bible tells us, "The simple believes everything, but the prudent man considers his steps" (Proverbs 14:15). Your discernment is a gift from the Holy Spirit, and we must not silence it, even when the truth is painful. If he was unfaithful, whether emotionally or physically, that is a grave sin, not just against you, but against God. Fornication and adultery defile the temple of the Holy Spirit and break the covenant of trust that should exist between two people, especially those who claim to follow Christ. "Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers" (Hebrews 13:4). If he engaged in such behavior, he must repent and seek restoration with the Lord before any reconciliation could even be considered.
We rebuke the spirit of deception that may have been at work in this relationship. The enemy seeks to destroy godly unions and sow discord, but we stand on the promise that "no weapon formed against you will prosper" (Isaiah 54:17). If he was unfaithful, we pray that the Lord would bring his actions to light, not to shame him, but to lead him to repentance. "For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light" (Luke 8:17). If he truly cared for you, his actions would have reflected that care. Love does not behave dishonorably (1 Corinthians 13:5).
Now, dear sister, we lift you up before the throne of grace. Father God, we ask You to heal her broken heart. Where distrust has taken root, plant seeds of peace and confidence in Your sovereignty. Where the enemy has whispered lies, let Your truth drown them out. Comfort her with the knowledge that You are close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Give her wisdom as she navigates this season, whether to seek clarity, set boundaries, or simply rest in Your care. If justice is needed, we pray You would execute it in Your perfect timing and way. Above all, draw her nearer to You, that she may find her identity and worth in Christ alone.
We also pray for him. Lord, if he is lost in false teachings or ensnared by sin, open his eyes to the truth. Convict him of any unrighteousness and lead him to repentance. If he is suffering now, let it be a refining fire that turns his heart back to You. Soften his heart to receive correction and wisdom, that he may one day walk in the light as You are in the light (1 John 1:7).
You are not alone in this pain. The Lord is your defender, your healer, and your peace. Cling to Him, for He has promised, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). Guard your heart against bitterness, for it only harms you, not him. Instead, release him to God’s care and trust that He will work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). You deserve a godly spouse who will love you as Christ loves the Church, a man who walks in truth, purity, and faithfulness. Until that day, rest in the love of your Heavenly Father, who calls you His beloved.
