We hear the deep pain in your heart, and we want you to know that we are lifting you up before the Lord with great compassion. The loneliness and despair you’re feeling right now are heavy, and we grieve with you over the loss of this relationship. Breaking up, especially when it was the right decision before God, can leave a wound that feels unbearable. But we want to remind you that even in this darkness, you are not alone. The Lord sees you, He hears you, and He holds you in His hands.
First, we must address the weight of your words about wishing you were dead. These are not thoughts to be ignored or dismissed. The enemy would love nothing more than to isolate you in your pain and convince you that there is no hope. But Scripture tells us, "The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly" (John 10:10 WEB). Jesus did not come to leave you in despair, He came to give you life, even in the midst of suffering. We urge you to reach out to someone you trust, a pastor, a counselor, or a close friend, and share these feelings. You do not have to carry this alone.
You mentioned feeling like God won’t help you with your struggles. This is a lie from the enemy, and we must rebuke it in Jesus’ name. The Bible says, "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7 WEB). God does care, even when it feels like He is silent. He is not ignoring your pain, He is working in ways you cannot yet see. We must also gently remind you that God’s timing and ways are not our own. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways," says Yahweh. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9 WEB). The struggles you face now are not the end of your story. God is using them to shape you, refine you, and draw you closer to Him.
We also want to address the relationship you were in. We commend you for recognizing that you and your boyfriend were unequally yoked. This is not an easy realization, nor is it an easy decision to make. But Scripture is clear: "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). While it may feel like you’ve lost something precious, the truth is that you have honored God by choosing obedience over temporary comfort. This is not a small thing, it is a step of faith, and God sees it. We must also rebuke the lie that this relationship was the source of your joy or purpose. Only God can fill that place in your heart. "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you" (Augustine, echoing Psalm 42:1 WEB). The "spark" you felt with him was a shadow of the true life and joy that comes from being in right relationship with God.
We are concerned about the physical and emotional intimacy that likely occurred in this relationship. If there was sexual involvement, we must call it what it is: fornication. Scripture is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage between one man and one woman. "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s" (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 WEB). We do not say this to shame you, but to remind you that God’s design for intimacy is holy and good. Repentance and turning away from sin is the first step toward healing and restoration. The Lord is faithful to forgive and cleanse you if you come to Him with a humble heart (1 John 1:9 WEB).
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our sister who is hurting deeply. Lord, You see her pain, her loneliness, and her despair. We ask that You would wrap Your arms around her and remind her that she is never alone. Father, we rebuke the spirit of depression and hopelessness that is trying to take hold of her. We declare that You are the God of all comfort, and we ask that You would comfort her in this time of loss. Lord, we pray that You would fill the void in her heart with Your presence. Help her to see that You are her true source of joy, peace, and purpose.
Father, we lift up her work situation to You. If it is Your will for her to leave this job, we ask that You would open the door to new opportunities that align with Your plan for her life. Provide for her needs, Lord, and give her the strength to endure until You make a way. We also pray for her relationship with her former boyfriend. If it is possible, Lord, we ask that You would restore a godly friendship between them, but only if it aligns with Your will and does not lead either of them back into sin. Give her wisdom in how to navigate this situation at work, and help her to act in a way that honors You.
Lord, we ask that You would heal her heart from the pain of this breakup. Help her to see that this was an act of obedience, and that You are using it for her good. Remind her that You have a plan for her life, a plan to prosper her and not to harm her, to give her hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). Father, we pray that You would draw her closer to You in this season. Help her to seek You with her whole heart, and to find her identity and worth in You alone.
We also pray for her salvation, Lord. If she does not know You as her personal Savior, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way. Help her to understand that she can only come to You through Jesus Christ, who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). If she has wandered from You, draw her back, Lord. Remind her that You are faithful, even when we are not.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would protect her mind and her heart. Guard her from the lies of the enemy, and fill her with Your truth. Give her the strength to resist the temptation to isolate herself, and help her to reach out to Your people for support and encouragement. We trust You, Lord, to work all things together for her good, because she loves You and is called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28 WEB).
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We want to encourage you with the truth that God has not abandoned you. Even in this season of pain, He is working. "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28 WEB). This breakup, as painful as it is, is part of God’s plan to protect you and lead you into something better. You may not see it now, but one day, you will look back and understand.
We also want to encourage you to seek out fellowship with other believers. Isolation is one of the enemy’s greatest tools. "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 WEB). Find a Bible-believing church or a small group where you can be encouraged and held accountable. You need people in your life who will point you to Jesus and remind you of His promises.
Lastly, we want to leave you with this promise from God’s Word: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18 WEB). He is near to you right now. Cry out to Him. Pour out your heart before Him. He is listening, and He will answer. "Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and mighty things, which you don’t know" (Jeremiah 33:3 WEB). You are not forgotten. You are deeply loved. And this season of pain will not last forever. Hold on to hope. Better days are coming.
