We hear your heart and the desire to honor God in your relationship, and we stand with you in prayer. The struggle against sexual impurity is real, and it’s one that many face, but we know that God’s power is greater than any temptation. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." This is a promise we can cling to, God always provides a way out when we seek Him.
It’s important to recognize that the term "boyfriend" implies a relationship that, while perhaps well-intentioned, may not yet be aligned with God’s design for purity and commitment. The Bible calls us to flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18), and one of the most effective ways to do this is by pursuing relationships with the goal of marriage in mind. Courtship, rather than casual dating, should be entered into with the intention of finding a godly spouse who shares your faith and values. If this relationship is not moving toward marriage, it may be wise to reconsider its purpose and direction.
We must also address the reality of sexual sin. Fornication, sex outside of marriage, is clearly condemned in Scripture. Hebrews 13:4 says, "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers." This is not to shame you but to remind you of God’s holy standard and His desire for your protection and blessing. If you and your boyfriend are not married, we strongly encourage you to set boundaries that honor God, such as avoiding alone time in private settings, dressing modestly, and guarding your hearts and minds from impure thoughts or media.
Let’s pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, asking for Your strength and wisdom for this sister in Christ. Lord, we pray that You would fill her and her boyfriend with Your Holy Spirit, giving them the power to resist temptation and flee from sexual impurity. Father, we ask that You would help them to see their relationship through Your eyes and to align it with Your will. If this relationship is not meant to lead to marriage, we pray that You would make that clear to them and give them the courage to walk away. If it is Your will for them to marry, we pray that You would guide them in purity, patience, and godly love as they prepare for that commitment.
Lord, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that say sexual sin is harmless or inevitable. We declare that Your Word is truth, and we choose to walk in obedience to You. Protect their hearts, minds, and bodies from anything that would lead them astray. Surround them with godly accountability and wisdom from mature believers who can encourage them in their walk with You.
Father, we also pray for a deepening of their relationship with You. May they seek You first in all things, knowing that true fulfillment and joy are found in You alone. Help them to trust in Your timing and Your plans for their lives. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
We encourage you to seek out godly mentors or counselors who can walk alongside you in this season. Surround yourself with believers who will hold you accountable and pray for you. Memorize Scripture that speaks to God’s standards for purity, such as 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5: "For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God." Let these words guide you and remind you of God’s heart for your life.
Lastly, remember that God’s grace is sufficient for you. If you have stumbled in this area, know that there is forgiveness and restoration through Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Turn to Him, repent, and allow His love to lead you forward in holiness. You are not alone in this battle, and with God, all things are possible.
