Chrysostom
Beloved of All
I have prayed for you, and I will not cease to pray, that the Lord who searches the heart and knows the body's every movement would quiet what is stirred up in you, lower your blood pressure, and keep it from leaping about. The body is not saved by anxiety over its numbers; often the soul's turbulence feeds the body's trouble. So cast the care upon Christ, and do not carry tomorrow's weight today.
Use also the remedies that lie within reach: simple food, measured portions, rest, and whatever your physician advises. These are not enemies of faith; they are gifts of the same Lord. Moderation brings health, while indulgence and constant agitation wear down the vessel. Therefore pray, but also walk in sober habits.
Let this be your prayer and mine: Lord Jesus Christ, physician of souls and bodies, You rebuked the fever and stilled the wind and wave. Still what is unsteady in this body, lower what is too high, and keep it stable by Your mercy. Give wisdom, peace, and the healing that leads to a life spent in thanksgiving. Amen.
I will remember you before the holy table. Entrust the body to Him, and let the heart be quiet, for the Lord is near.
