You ask for a miracle, a divine intervention that would close your accounts and bring a loan without trouble, so that the shame and harassment might cease. But consider carefully: do you seek God, or only relief? The saints of old did not run after signs; they embraced trials as the very school of virtue. What made Elijah admirable? Not his miracles alone, but his boldness, his poverty, his zeal. Job had no miracle to show the devil, yet his steadfast endurance shone brighter than any wonder. And David, a man after God’s own heart, what dead did he raise? Miracles, if we are not watchful, often do harm: they puff up the proud, they entice the slothful to seek glory rather than a clean heart. The Corinthians divided, the Romans became arrogant, Simon fell. So be careful not to make a miraculous escape the measure of God’s love for you.

I do not say this to dismiss your distress. Harassment and the threat of shame are real, and the weight of debt can feel like chains. But remember: chains for a righteous cause are no cause for shame. If Christ was not ashamed of the cross, should we be ashamed of poverty or a debtor’s reproach? Paul sat in bonds, yet his boldness only increased, because the word of God cannot be bound. Your present trial, if you bear it with faith and honesty, can become a testimony. The disgrace you fear is not in owing money, but in failing to do what is right. Make every effort to repay what you owe, not by grasping at new loans that multiply the snare, but by patient labor and frugal living. Let your new job be an arena for integrity, not a refuge built on the hope that old debts will vanish.

Is there no miracle? This is a greater miracle: that a soul, pressed on every side, still gives thanks, still seeks to deal uprightly, still trusts that God sees. Those who endure suffering for Christ’s sake show a power far beyond any mere wonder. And if you have stumbled, even gravely, do not despair: the door of repentance stands open. You can recover yourself, not by a sudden wiping away of all consequences, but by a firm change of mind and life.

If you desire to see God’s hand, look to the secret alchemy of almsgiving. What you give to the needy, though your own purse be thin, becomes a loan to the Lord, and He repays with interest that transcends silver. Generosity in hardship loosens the grip of mammon and invites true riches. And pray, yes, but not that your path be made smooth at the expense of justice; pray for strength to walk the hard road, for wisdom to order your affairs, and for peace that the world cannot take. Let your request be: “Lord, help me to honor You in this storm, and give me grace to repay all I owe, whether in money or in charity of heart. Deliver me from the love of ease, and teach me to fear only the shame of sin.” Then, whatever comes, you will not be put to shame, whether in life or in death, for you stand on the rock of a good conscience.

I can hear how the constant pressure of those calls and visits is wearing you down, and I understand how the shame creeps in and makes you feel like you are being publicly branded. It is easy in times like these to believe that this suffering must mean you have done something deeply wrong. That is what all of Job’s friends told him. They looked at his ruined finances, his shattered peace, and the miserable ashes of his comfort, and they concluded God was punishing a hidden sin. They were wrong. Suffering is not always a personal payback, and the relentless hounding you are experiencing is not proof that God has abandoned you.

The desire you expressed to repay everyone is right and honorable. Hold onto that. You are not asking to cheat anyone; you are asking for relief from the shame and harassment so you can work and provide without your new job being destroyed. Bring that desire honestly before God, just as Job cried out in his confusion without cursing God. You can say to the Lord, “I do not understand why this crushing burden continues when I have already paid more than I borrowed, but I am bringing my need for an honest way out.” That is not a lack of faith; it is the kind of raw, desperate trust that the Psalms are filled with.

Remember that Jesus now stands as the true mediator Job longed for, the one who can lay his hand on both God and you, bridging every gap. Because of Him, you do not have to earn God’s favor by suffering perfectly or by pretending the weight is not heavy. You can ask boldly for a practical solution, including a loan that would let you clear these debts without further harassment. There is nothing unspiritual about praying for that open door.

In the meantime, do not let the shame define you. The constant interruptions and threats disrupt your peace, but they cannot touch the reality that you are known by God. You are not a hypocrite whose roots have suddenly been cursed. When God finally spoke into Job’s storm, He did not explain the reasons. He revealed Himself. Cling to that. Let your prayer be, “Even if I never learn why, You are sovereign, and my life is held in Your hands.”

Ask God to quiet the hearts of those pursuing you, perhaps to give them a measure of patience or even to remove the threat entirely. And as you wait, deliberately lay up His words in your heart rather than the angry voices you are hearing. His faithfulness is bigger than any debt, His mercy wider than any shame, and He is able to restore peace to your home even while the circumstances look unchanged. Keep your eyes on Him, and refuse to let the dread terrify you into despair. He hears you, and He will make a way.
