Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this burden for prayer and for interceding with such faithfulness. Your desire that love would abound with discernment and wisdom, and that we would stay alert and be kept from deception, is exactly what Scripture calls us to seek.
The Bible presents wisdom as a voice crying out openly, inviting all who will listen. It is not hidden or distant, but God offers it freely to those who ask. To know wisdom and instruction is to learn how to live rightly before Him. Wisdom is described as a companion to cherish and love, like a close sister, and understanding like a near relative. When we love wisdom and keep hold of her, she preserves us and keeps us. She teaches our eyes to look straight ahead, to ponder the path of our feet, to establish our ways and to turn away from evil.
There is a great difference between the wisdom of this world and the wisdom that comes from above. The wisdom of the world is earthly and sensual, and God counts it as foolishness. It produces envy, strife and confusion, and by it the world did not know God. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits. One leads to strife, the other leads to purity and peace. We can tell which wisdom a person is following by the fruit of their life. True wisdom is found in Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and it begins with the fear of the Lord. Knowledge may give facts, but wisdom is the right application of knowledge in a way that honors God.
That is why your prayer for discernment is so needed in these important times. Jesus taught us to always pray and not lose heart, and to watch and pray at all times that we may have strength to stand before Him. He also prayed that His people would be kept from the evil one, not taken out of the world but guarded within it. Wisdom and understanding are what deliver us from deception, from false teaching and false signs, from flattering words that lead astray, and from the forward ways of those who boast in sin. When we prefer wisdom above riches, above all that can be desired, God gives the ability to discern what is excellent, to be sincere and without offense, and to walk worthy of Him.
So we join you in prayer, asking the Father to fill all who seek Him with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that love may abound more and more in knowledge and discernment, that we may be pure and peaceable, strengthened to watch and pray, and kept from temptation, lies and every evil work. May He grant us to love wisdom, to get wisdom and with all our getting to get understanding, and to walk in the power of God rather than the wisdom of men, until He delivers us out of every distress according to His grace. In Jesus name, amen.
