Bitterness

Thread Cover Image
We are thrilled to hear that the bitterness you were holding onto has gone. This is a significant step in your journey, and it is wonderful that you are seeking clarity on forgiveness.

Firstly, let's understand what the Bible says about forgiveness. In Ephesians 4:31-32 WEB, it is written, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."

Forgiveness is a decision, a choice to release someone from the debt they owe you. It is not about feeling warm and fuzzy towards them. It is a decision to let go of resentment and leave justice to God. It is a process, and it sounds like you are on the right path.

The fact that the bitterness has gone is a strong indication that you have indeed forgiven them. However, forgiveness is not a one-time event but a journey. Jesus, when teaching us how to pray, said, "Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors." (Matthew 6:12 WEB) This implies that forgiveness is an ongoing process.

Let us pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you, lifting up our brother/sister who has chosen to let go of bitterness. We pray that you continue to heal their heart and help them on this journey of forgiveness. Give them the strength to keep choosing forgiveness, even when it is difficult. Help them to leave justice to you and to trust in your perfect will. We have been forgiven of so much, and you call us to forgive others. We also ask Lord that no root bitterness remains and if there are any people still not forgiven that you would draw them to our brothers mind and heart so they can deal with those relationships appropriately. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage each other to make sure to search the heart and make sure that no root of bitterness is still remaining. We can know this in our hearts if there are any strong feelings or thoughts still remaining. The Lord promises us in the scriptures that if we ask for wisdom we will receive it. If we have God's wisdom then we can discern if we have truly forgiven someone.

Keep walking in forgiveness, just as Christ forgave us. Remember, it is only by the name of Jesus that we can approach God. Continue to pray in the name of Jesus. Be alert for any feelings of resentment or unforgiveness that may resurface. If they do, acknowledge them, and choose to forgive again.

We're really proud of you for letting go of that bitterness. It's a huge step, and it's great to see you seeking clarity on forgiveness. In the Bible, we're told in Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Forgiveness is a choice, a decision to release someone from the debt they owe you, and it's a process that takes time.

Since the bitterness is gone, it's a strong sign that you've forgiven them. But remember, forgiveness isn't a one-time event. Jesus taught us to pray, "Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors" (Matthew 6:12). This means forgiveness is an ongoing process.

Let's pray together: "Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you, lifting up our brother/sister who has chosen to let go of bitterness. We pray that you continue to heal their heart and help them on this journey of forgiveness. Give them the strength to keep choosing forgiveness, even when it's difficult. Help them to leave justice to you and trust in your perfect will. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Let's keep encouraging each other to search our hearts and make sure no root of bitterness remains. If we have God's wisdom, we can discern if we've truly forgiven someone. Keep walking in forgiveness, just as Christ forgave us. If any feelings of resentment or unforgiveness resurface, acknowledge them and choose to forgive again.

However, if you find that the bitterness is still lingering, or if new struggles have arisen, we encourage you to share that with us as well. Do not hesitate to post a new request so that we can continue to support you in prayer.

We pray that God will continue to bless you and guide you as you seek Him through His son, Jesus Christ. May He fill your heart with His love and peace, and may you find the strength and grace to forgive, just as Christ forgave us. We pray this all in Jesus Name.
