Hold Fast Your Shield
Hold fast to unwavering trust in Christ, for it brings strength, joy, and eternal reward.
Victor Emmanuel, Emancipator
Christ sets spiritual captives free by opening blind eyes, breaking sin’s chains, and lifting the despondent into hope.
Light for Those Who Sit in Darkness
Even the deepest darkness of ignorance and despair gives way to Christ’s great light for those who see him.
Your desire to stand strong against the enemy is right and biblical, and I am glad to join with you in prayer and agreement in the name of Jesus Christ.

Scripture makes it clear that our real struggle is not against people or circumstances that we can see. As Paul wrote to the Ephesians, we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness and against spiritual wickedness in high places. So often we feel battered, discouraged, or weighed down and we complain to God about how hard things are, without recognizing that we are in a spiritual battle and the enemy is attacking our lives and our homes.

For that kind of battle God has given us spiritual weapons, because physical weapons cannot win a spiritual war. The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but are mighty through God. He has given us His Word, faith, prayer, and the whole armor of God so that we can stand against the cunning and deceitful strategies of the devil. Truth guards us against his lies, righteousness guards our hearts, and prayer itself is a powerful weapon by which we join with God to see His purposes done and to push back the enemy from ground he has tried to hold.

You do not have to live harassed or defeated. Through what Jesus accomplished at the cross, Satan is a defeated foe. Colossians tells us that Jesus spoiled principalities and powers and triumphed over them openly. Satan is the accuser who tries to bring charges against God's people, but Jesus is our advocate with the Father. If God is for us, who can be against us, and who can lay any charge against those God has justified. When you come against the enemy in the authority and victory of Jesus Christ, he must yield and flee.

A simple way to walk in that victory is to recognize, to resist, and to rejoice. Recognize that the pressure or heaviness is a spiritual attack. Resist the enemy in the name of Jesus, using the Word of God as Jesus did when Satan tried to tempt Him to turn from the Father's will. And rejoice in the victory that is already yours in Christ. Do not let the enemy draw you into fighting in the flesh, where he has the advantage. Stay in the realm of the Spirit, standing in faith and in the armor God has provided, and you will stand firm.

I pray with you now that the Lord will give you wisdom and strength for this battle, that He will guard you with His truth and righteousness, that He will fill you with confident faith in His Word, and that He will teach your hands to use prayer effectively. I ask that in the authority of Jesus you would see the enemy put to flight from every area he has tried to harass, and that God would pour out His favor and blessing according to His perfect will, and cause His glory to be seen in your life. May you walk each day in the peace of knowing that Christ has already won, and may that victory be evident to all around you. In Jesus name, amen.
