BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

We rejoice with you for your sister's hunger to know the Holy Spirit more deeply and we join you in praying for her that God will fill her according to His perfect will.

We want to gently point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we desire to remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. The Holy Spirit is given to those who repent and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, trusting in His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins. If your sister has not yet fully trusted in Jesus, we pray first for her salvation, for without Christ we cannot receive the Spirit, as it is written, But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn't have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his. Rom 8:9.

Scripture teaches that Jesus Himself is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. John the Baptizer said, I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit. Matt 3:11. This promise was fulfilled when Jesus told His disciples, for John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now. Acts 1:5 and But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth. Acts 1:8.

We understand from Scripture that every true believer is baptized by the Spirit into the body of Christ at conversion, For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit. 1 Cor 12:13 and sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise when we believed. Eph 1:13. This is God's work, not something we can earn by striving for an experience. At the same time, Scripture exhorts us to be filled with the Spirit continually, Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Eph 5:18, walking in obedience, prayer, and the Word so that the Spirit empowers us to live holy lives and to bear fruit.

We encourage your sister not to seek a feeling or a sign above seeking Christ Himself, but to seek the Giver more than the gift. The evidence of the Spirit's presence is not necessarily a single outward manifestation, but a transformed life, love, joy, peace, and power to be a witness for Jesus. We caution against any teaching that says a person is not saved or not loved by God unless they speak in tongues or have a dramatic experience, for the Spirit distributes gifts as He wills. 1 Cor 12:11.

We pray together for her now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You for the hunger You have placed in this dear sister's heart. We ask that if she has not yet been born again, You would draw her to repentance and faith in Jesus, that she would be washed and renewed by the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5. If she is already Yours, we ask that You fill her afresh with Your Holy Spirit, that she would know Your presence, Your comfort, and Your power as the Helper whom Jesus promised, But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things. John 14:26. Baptize her, Lord Jesus, with Your Spirit as You have promised, strengthen her to walk in holiness, to understand Your Word, to bear fruit, and to be a bold witness for You. Remove any confusion or false teaching and lead her into all truth. Help her to abide in Christ daily through prayer, reading Scripture, fellowship with faithful believers, and obedience. We ask that Your will be done in her life and that she would be conformed more and more to the image of Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We love hearing your heart for your sister and her desire to know more of the Holy Spirit. That hunger to be close to God and to be led by Him is a beautiful thing, and it is good you are standing with her in it.

We think of the Holy Spirit as the Counselor and Helper Jesus promised to be with us, to guide us into truth and to form Christlike character in us over time. His work brings power for daily life and witness, but also truth that keeps us grounded in God's Word, and fruit like love, joy, peace and patience that grows steadily. When those stay together in balance, there is real health and wholeness.

A helpful next step could be to walk alongside her as she seeks the Lord. You might pray together simply and regularly, stay in Scripture together, and encourage her to talk with a trusted pastor who knows her and can answer questions personally and pray with her. It can also help to ask what she is hoping for in this step, and to encourage the quiet practices that open us to the Spirit's leading, like prayer, worship and time in the Word.

Father, we thank You for this sister and her desire for You. Draw her closer to Jesus, fill her afresh with Your Spirit, lead her in truth and grow Your fruit in her life day by day. Give her wisdom and peace as she seeks You, and bless the love between these siblings. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request for your sister has been heard with gratitude to God, for it is a good and holy desire to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We do rejoice that this longing has been placed upon her heart, and we join you in prayer that the Lord will answer it abundantly.

The Scripture asks, Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed, and this is the vital question for every soul. Remember, the Holy Spirit is the Author of all spiritual life. Until He visits us we are dead in trespasses and sins, and no man can become holy except by the Spirit of Holiness, for a holy man is the workmanship of the Holy Spirit. No man can truly pray without His assistance, and no man can truly know Christ without His revealing.

Therefore we pray that your sister may not rest in water only, nor in any mere outward form, but may know that inward baptism where the Spirit Himself comes to dwell. The Holy Spirit always keeps sweet company with Jesus Christ, for He will receive of Christ and show it unto us, and He glorifies Christ in the heart. Where He comes, Christ is made precious, sin is mourned, and the soul is drawn to trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. The little narrow heart of man, though it be but a cottage and unclean, He condescends to make His palace and His continual abode, and this He does for those who are humble and of a contrite spirit.

We entreat the Lord for her that she may receive Him by simple faith in the Lord Jesus, looking wholly to Christ and not to any strength of nature or good intentions. And we exhort her, as she seeks Him, not to grieve the Holy Spirit by unbelief, pride, or unholiness of life, for He is tender and easily grieved, and He dwells with the lowly. Let her wait upon the Lord in prayer, praying in the Holy Spirit and through the Holy Spirit, asking Him who alone can teach and quicken to come in power.

Let us pray together. O Father, for the sake of Thy Son Jesus Christ, pour out Thy Holy Spirit upon this dear one who desires to be baptised of Him. Grant her to receive Him by faith, to know Him not as an influence but as a living Person, to be sealed as Thy child, and to be taught to glorify Christ in all things. Keep her from grieving Him, make her humble and obedient to His voice today, and let the life and power of the Spirit be manifest in her to Thy glory. Grant this, we beseech Thee, and grant that both she and those who love her may know the fullness of life which is in Christ Jesus. Amen.
