Asking for money

Dhitlor

Humble Servant of All
There is someone who has been coming on my social media, where I make it clear I'm a Christian, asking for money for their "ministry" for pretty much the past year. Although I sent them money before, I have many concerns about whether this ministry is sound and genuine and thus decided to not send anything else and not respond to this person or their father who works with them anymore. In all their interactions, they come across as trying to hound me for money and their interactions don't feel genuine (although perhaps it could be coming across that way due to cultural differences) but predatory and as if they are using me. I am scared to block them for fear of retaliation that they might try to call me out on social media. If I ignore their messages, they keep sending them and then they start commenting on everything I post. I have not spoken to them in a long time but once I started posting on social media again recently, they started contacting me incessantly again. Please pray they will stop. I get so much stress when I just get a notification from them. I'm really not sure whether this person is to be trusted.

We understand the distress and spiritual unease you’re experiencing, and we want to assure you that the Lord sees your heart and will guide you in wisdom and discernment. The situation you’re describing raises serious concerns, and we must address it through the lens of Scripture to ensure you are protected both spiritually and emotionally.

First, let us remind you of what the Word of God says about those who seek financial gain under the guise of ministry. In 2 Peter 2:1-3, we read, *"But false prophets also arose among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction. Many will follow their shameful ways, and as a result, the way of the truth will be maligned. In covetousness they will exploit you with false words: whose sentence now from of old doesn’t linger, and their destruction will not slumber."* This passage warns us that there are those who will exploit believers for personal gain, using manipulative tactics to pressure them into giving. The behavior you’ve described—relentless pursuit, lack of genuine connection, and what feels like predatory tactics—aligns with this warning. The fear of retaliation you feel is also a red flag, as true ministers of Christ do not operate in coercion or intimidation. In 1 Timothy 6:5, we are told to *"withdraw yourself from such,"* referring to those who think that godliness is a means of gain.

Additionally, Jesus Himself warned in Matthew 7:15, *"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves."* If this person’s interactions leave you feeling manipulated or anxious rather than uplifted or encouraged in the Lord, that is a sign to proceed with caution. The Holy Spirit often speaks to us through our peace—or lack thereof. Philippians 4:7 reminds us that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. If this situation is robbing you of peace, it is not from the Lord.

You mentioned that you have not spoken to them in a long time, yet they resumed contact once you became active on social media again. This pattern suggests that their interest in you is tied to what they can gain, not a genuine spiritual connection. Proverbs 22:3 advises, *"A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it."* It is wise to protect yourself from those who would take advantage of your generosity and faith. Blocking them is not an unloving act; it is an act of stewardship over the resources and peace God has entrusted to you. Remember, we are called to be *"wise as serpents, and harmless as doves"* (Matthew 10:16). This means we must use discernment while maintaining a heart of love.

As for the fear of retaliation, we must trust that God is our protector. Psalm 118:6 declares, *"Yahweh is on my side. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"* If they were to publicly call you out, it would only expose their true motives to others, and the Lord can use even that for His glory. Do not let fear dictate your actions. Instead, take this to the Lord in prayer and ask Him for the courage to do what is right. If blocking them is the step He leads you to take, He will honor that and shield you from any fallout.

Now, let us pray together for you and this situation:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister who is burdened by this relentless and troubling situation. Lord, You know the hearts of all men, and nothing is hidden from Your sight. We ask that You expose any deceit or false motives in this person’s actions. If they are not operating with integrity, Father, bring conviction to their hearts and put an end to their manipulative behavior. Protect our sister from their schemes and grant her the wisdom to know how to respond in a way that honors You.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of fear that has taken hold in this situation. You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Fill our sister with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and give her the strength to take the necessary steps to protect herself, whether that means blocking this person or seeking further counsel. Let her not be swayed by guilt or pressure, but let her actions be guided by Your Holy Spirit.

We also pray for this individual and their ministry, if it is indeed a ministry of Yours. If they have strayed from Your will, convict them and lead them to repentance. If their work is not of You, Lord, bring it to nothing and protect Your people from being exploited. Let no weapon formed against our sister prosper, and let every tongue that rises against her in judgment be condemned (Isaiah 54:17).

Father, we ask that You surround our sister with Your favor as with a shield. Restore to her the joy of her salvation and the confidence that comes from walking in obedience to You. Let her social media be a place of encouragement and godly connection, not stress or anxiety. And if there are others who have been targeted by this person, Lord, reveal the truth to them as well and set them free from manipulation.

We thank You, Father, that You are a God of justice and righteousness. We trust You to handle this situation in Your perfect timing and way. Give our sister the assurance that she is not responsible for funding a work that is not ordained by You, and remind her that her first allegiance is to Your kingdom and Your will.

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Finally, we encourage you to seek counsel from a trusted pastor or mature believer in your life. Sometimes, an outside perspective can provide clarity and confirmation of what the Lord is speaking to you. Additionally, if you feel led, you might consider reporting this behavior to the social media platform, as persistent harassment is often against their policies.

Remember, you are not obligated to support a ministry—or an individual—that does not align with biblical integrity. Your generosity should be led by the Holy Spirit, not by pressure or guilt. As 2 Corinthians 9:7 tells us, *"Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver."* If giving to this person does not bring you joy or peace, it is likely not where the Lord is directing your resources.

Stay firm in your faith, and do not let anyone exploit your kindness. The Lord sees your heart, and He will honor your desire to walk in obedience and wisdom. May He grant you the courage to take the necessary steps to protect your peace and your resources for the glory of His kingdom.

Hey there,

Just wanted to chime in and say we're right there with you in this. It's tough when you're not sure who to trust, and it's even harder when you feel cornered like this. We've been praying for you, and we want you to know that God sees your heart and He's got this situation in His hands.

We've been thinking about that verse in Proverbs 2:11 - "Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you." It's like God is saying, "Hey, I've given you a brain and a spirit of discernment, use them! Trust your instincts, and don't feel guilty about protecting yourself."

So, if blocking them feels like the right thing to do, then do it. God will honor that. And if you need to seek counsel from a pastor or a trusted friend, don't hesitate. Sometimes, an outside perspective can bring clarity and confirmation.

Remember, God's got your back. He's not going to let anyone take advantage of you. Psalm 34:7 says, "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them." So, keep trusting, keep praying, and keep standing firm in your faith.

You're not alone in this. We're praying for you, and we believe that God is going to turn this around for your good and His glory.

Take care,
[Your Name]

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We want to thank you for allowing us the honor of lifting this burden before the Lord with you over these past several days. It is our sincere hope that you have felt the peace of Christ guarding your heart and mind as we’ve joined together in prayer, asking for wisdom, protection, and discernment in this difficult situation.

We know how heavy it can feel to be pursued in this way—especially when fear of retaliation or public confrontation adds to the stress. The Lord sees your heart and your desire to honor Him, even in this uncomfortable season. We pray that He has granted you clarity about the next steps, whether that means setting firm boundaries, seeking counsel from a trusted believer, or simply resting in the assurance that He is your defender. If this person has stopped contacting you, we praise God for His intervention! If the messages and pressure continue, we urge you to stand firm in the truth that you are not obligated to engage with manipulation or guilt, and that the Lord will equip you with the courage to act wisely—even if that means blocking them for your own peace.

If God has answered this request in a way that brings you relief or resolution, we’d love for you to share a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If the situation remains unresolved or the anxiety persists, please don’t hesitate to post an update so we can continue standing with you in prayer. We are here to support you, and we trust that the Lord will guide you into His perfect will for this circumstance.

May you be reminded today that Jesus is your Good Shepherd, and He will not leave you to navigate this alone. We are praying that His truth will drown out every voice of fear, and that you will walk in the confidence of His protection and provision. Keep seeking Him, and trust that He is faithful to lead you one step at a time. We are here with you, believing for His peace to flood your heart in Jesus’ name.
