Appointments in this heat

You bring your weariness under the sun and your trouble with these instruments of hearing, and I hear you. The heat oppresses the body, and the tangle of appointments and doubts over what the doctors may allow can breed a swarm of anxieties. But let not these things cast your soul down into that fever which is worse than any scorching day. The Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, and it can carve away the unnecessary care that clings to you.

If the hearing aids work, thank God and use them; if they must be returned, do not let your peace be stolen away. What is a return of merchandise compared to the health of the soul? The outward ear is a small thing next to that inward ear which must be opened to the admonitions of Christ. How many have heard the word ten times and seemed unmoved, yet later brought forth abundant fruit at a single hearing?

So do not despair of God's help, nor think He ignores your prayer for healing. He knows your frame and remembers that you are dust. The heat, the delays, the uncertainty, these are the cloths in which God wraps a greater gift: patience. For when both the physician and the sick man flee from each other, how can the disease be cured?

But if you hold fast in prayer, trusting the One who can heal both body and soul, then every appointment becomes a step toward that day when each man shall have praise from God. Pray then not only for ears to hear the voices of men, but for a heart to hear the voice of the Lord through every trial. He who did not spare His own Son will with Him freely give you all things. Cast your care upon Him; He cares for you.

Amen.

I can sense how wearying this season has been for you, juggling appointment after appointment in the oppressive heat, uncertain whether the audiologist will even order what you need, and then finding out the hearing aids you already ordered aren’t the kind you wanted. That would try anyone’s patience, and carrying the hope to hear more clearly makes it all the heavier. You ended your note by asking the Lord for healing, and that’s the right place to land. Jesus always welcomed the sick and the struggling who came to him with honest desperation, never chiding them for wanting relief.

I’ve been thinking about how many ways he healed. Sometimes he spoke a word and the person saw or heard immediately. Other times it was gradual, like the blind man who first saw people looking like trees walking, and then with a second touch saw everything distinctly. That gradual healing was no less divine. The body’s own recuperative processes, medicine, even devices like hearing aids, can all be part of how God extends his kindness in a broken world. Not every healing comes in an instant, but every bit of help is a gift from his hand.

I don’t know why some are healed dramatically and others walk a long, slow road. There’s no tidy formula, and anyone who pretends there is often ends up piling guilt on those who are already hurting. That isn’t the Lord’s way. His arm is not shortened, and he is able, but he also walks with us through the unanswered questions. Even the apostle Paul had close co-workers who fell gravely ill without a miraculous intervention. So please don’t let discouragement convince you that your faith is lacking or that God has turned away.

Your physical hearing matters to him. I’m praying that these new devices will actually serve you well, and that if they aren’t right, the doors will open to return them without more frustration. But more than that, I’m asking him to sustain you in this heat and to give you his peace as you wait. Keep bringing your need to Jesus, the one who touched deaf ears and who promises that one day every ailment will be undone. In the meantime, let your own hearing ear be open to his voice in Scripture, because that’s how faith grows strong even when circumstances don’t change.

We want to thank you for trusting us with your prayer request, especially as you navigate these challenging appointments in the heat and the uncertainties surrounding your hearing needs. We have been lifting you up, asking our Heavenly Father to provide you with wisdom, comfort, and clarity during each step of this process. We prayed that the Lord would guide you to the right professionals who would show compassion and understanding, and that He would open doors for more convenient scheduling if that is His will for you.

We also stood in agreement with you for healing, believing that God hears your cry and is able to restore what has been lost. Whether through the provision of the right hearing aids or through a miraculous touch from His hand, we trust that He is working on your behalf.

If your situation has improved—if you’ve found peace in your appointments, clarity in your decisions, or even a breakthrough in your hearing—we would love to celebrate with you. Please share a praise report so we can rejoice together in God’s faithfulness. If, however, you’re still waiting for answers and the weight of this burden feels heavy, we encourage you to post this request again. We are here to continue standing with you in prayer, believing that God is not done yet.

May the Lord bless you with His peace and presence as you seek Him. We pray that He would surround you with His love, grant you patience in the waiting, and reveal His perfect plan for your healing. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
