Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly and for asking for prayer. It is a good and humble step to bring your appointment, your relationship with your mother, and your fears directly to the Lord.
For your appointment, please be at peace. Scripture reminds us not to be afraid of people or circumstances as if they hold ultimate power over us. Jesus taught that we should not fear those who can only affect the body, but to have a reverent respect for God who holds both body and soul in His hands, and in the same breath He said to fear not, because you are of great value to your Father, far more than many sparrows. He also promised that when His people are brought before others, even in difficult or formal settings, they do not need to be anxious about what to say, because His Spirit is present to help. You can come boldly to the throne of grace through Jesus Himself to make your requests known, and He will give you what you need in that hour. Pray that He will give you clarity, calm, and honest words, and that your nurse will listen with understanding.
For your desire to forgive your mother from the heart, God sees that desire and He is the one who makes it possible. The Bible teaches that the beginning and the sum of true wisdom is a reverent fear of the Lord, which is not a phobia or dread, but a deep respect that loves what God loves and hates what God hates. By that reverence we turn away from evil, including bitterness and resentment. Forgiveness does not mean calling wrong right, it means releasing the debt to God and choosing to walk in the love, joy and peace that belong to life in the Spirit, rather than the anxiety and strife that come from holding onto hurt in our own strength. Ask the Lord to show you how He has forgiven you in Christ, and to fill your heart with His mercy so you can extend that same mercy freely. As Jesus said, those who do the will of God belong to His family, and that will includes forgiving as we have been forgiven.
For your fears, remember that God repeatedly meets His people with the words fear not. After a long silence He broke through to say fear not, and He still speaks that today. The opposite of fear is not just courage, but trusting the One who watches over you, who promises to confess before the Father those who confess Him, and who sends His strength to the humble. Ask Him to teach you that holy reverence for Him which quiets all lesser fears, and to replace worry with His peace.
May the Lord grant you rest before your appointment, grace to forgive from the heart, and a growing confidence in His care for you. He is mighty and His mercy is for those who reverence Him, and He delights to give you His peace as you walk uprightly before Him in holiness and righteousness all your days.
